Matt the impeccable

257

Our two compensations are that Matt O’Riley is behaving impeccably despite mounting speculation about his future and Celtic have him under contract for another three years.  The Sun’s assertion that Brighton have joined Southampton and Atalanta in the race to sign Matt raises the potential ticket price, should the player move.

Brighton have already paid €30m to Feyenoord for a midfielder this summer and gone higher still for a Newcastle winger.  If Celtic sell, they have two requirements: push the fee higher than what we got for Jota a year ago and ensure we have backfill before agreeing to the sale.

We still have 25 days of the window left, so I wouldn’t expect movement on Matt or a replacement soon.  This has nothing to do with any other business Celtic are looking at this month, although, the same transfer window rules apply.  Players under contract and in demand will seldom shift until late in the window, when the seller has extracted all possible interest.

  1. Tom McLaughlin on

Watching the 2 teams waiting in the tunnel. The Kiyv captain in conversation with the referee who shrugged, shook his head and had a little giggle while the captain went into hysterics. I’m pretty sure he was asking the ref about the sacked var officials.

    Don’t think I’ve ever eaten a chicken Keev! 😳🤷🏼‍♂️

That’s aimed at the BBC Scotland commentary team btw, which includes Derek Ferguson, who keeps referring to rangers as ‘we’.

He meets the BBC criteria for a job mind you.

Yeah great to see some of the old guard on Sunday …

Hopefully I’ll manage more games this season with my kids and grandson .

  5. Very disappointed in Kiev. Panic stations trying to play out from the back. Think we’ll need to rely on Twente or Salzburg.

  6. RECORD TURNOVER, RECORD PROFIT, HIGHEST EVER CASH ON HAND,

FOR LAST FINANCIAL YEAR , Upto jun 30th 2024.

    ————

anyone forecast next years – sold out season books (53600) sold out seasonal hospitality. chamions league income to be cicra £40m, transfers outbouns, will potentially generate anothe £25m +.

never mind transfers in for the moment,

cash rich and the revenue streams go ito full spate.

and yet they are charging kds £12 for a seat versus hibs, and another £10 for a pichips and a juice.

and £12 if you want a souvenier scarf.

More than a club, the Celtic family, my arse, they aint looking after anyone unless they have disposable incomes.

    rampant profiteering.

  7. I really do question whether Celtic have a “list” of signing targets. We probably have a list of positions we’d like to strengthen but actual targets, no!!

If we had targets (other than Idah) we would have offers into clubs , leaked to press. SO, typical Celtic are waiting for the scraps of who goes , who’s left, late deals , late loans and hope it all works out

Not saying it’s wrong or bad but it is opportunistic rather than intentional.

All about the profits and dividends.

  8. i looked after properties in both moscow and keev.

the management team were cross border, allowed to sell in both territories.

they alway found it funny when i said Kiev. and not keev.

in particular the slovaks and poles.

they got me to stat saying keev.

sometime later an austrian told me, they only want you to do tis because it annoys the russians.

    live and learn.

I think he means WEE as in PISH.

    —————

Agree. They are pish. Were holding their own according to the BBC page until they conceded then started to look fragile.

Loser mentality coming to the fore again. 😂👍

You can question it all you like but your framing of what we’re doing and the conclusion you arrive at are both clearly rubbish.

    Just imagine the instruction:-

“Go out and get me a Centre Forward, a Left Back and an attacking midfielder”

    “OK Boss- which ones?”

“Doesn’t matter- anyone will do. Oh! and the later you get them the better.”

  11. Business decent okay huge profits

Team great domesticly in an unchallenged league so give us a team for Europe and least try and see we might even make more money 💰

    Fair dos.

I’m still saying Kiev. As I don’t want to piss off any Russians. 😳🤷🏼‍♂️😂👍

  13. STEBHOY

I don’t doubt we have a list of targets.

But I don’t believe they’ve been sounded out.

So when it comes to making approaches our list of 5 or 6 candidate for a position soon disapates, because we don’t have the network or contacts to know if the player would be open to the move, or if the club would let them go within our valuation.

It’s criminal that we leave these negotiations so late. Big hitting transfers like those bidding on O’Riley that’s the norm, there’s an expected bidding war, but we should have done the ground work on any development or project type signings in advance of windows opening. With all due respect to the players we go after, we don’t tend to be competing with big players on them. Any negotiations should be minor details.

  14. lets all do the huddle on

the plc dont need to risk spending money on players with enough quality to progress in europe.

because when we are celebrating in the gallowgate and hampden in may then the euro failures months before will have been well forgotten, especially in terms of the feel good factor in may and june which the plc need to ensure the season tickets continue to get sold.

our euro failures dont affect that so for the plc they will see no reason to change the strategy.

  15. Celtic only spoke to Kasper after the Danes played the host out recruitment department is not fot for purpose clearly.

Another profit warning. What an amazing investment business we are.

    ——————-

    not really,

predictability is what investment companies want.

anyone with desmonds abacus can work out what the forecasted revenues should be.

profitabily is offcourse much dependent on transfer activity.

but dare i say it, you could quite simply say, this year we will spend £30 million, and take in £50m.

you tell analysts that on earnings calls. the biggest companies see issuing profit warning, plus or minus as poor business planning.

something unusual happened, pandemic say, or more likely, you got somethiing wrong.

celtic plc do make a lot of statements on where money will be spent, but mostly people dont read it.

we need to do something better next year, that was why P67 was hinting at stadium upgrades.

unless we announce a full new south stand, which i doubt, be prpared for more hospitality seats and a reduced capacity.

i seriously thing that is what is be planned,

less heads but with bigger spends.
