Matt the impeccable

257

Our two compensations are that Matt O’Riley is behaving impeccably despite mounting speculation about his future and Celtic have him under contract for another three years.  The Sun’s assertion that Brighton have joined Southampton and Atalanta in the race to sign Matt raises the potential ticket price, should the player move.

Brighton have already paid €30m to Feyenoord for a midfielder this summer and gone higher still for a Newcastle winger.  If Celtic sell, they have two requirements: push the fee higher than what we got for Jota a year ago and ensure we have backfill before agreeing to the sale.

We still have 25 days of the window left, so I wouldn’t expect movement on Matt or a replacement soon.  This has nothing to do with any other business Celtic are looking at this month, although, the same transfer window rules apply.  Players under contract and in demand will seldom shift until late in the window, when the seller has extracted all possible interest.

  1. A wonder save by the Kiev Keeper from a terrific Dessers header , keeps it at 1-0 .

Sevco well in this tie .

If the dressing room upgrade is anything to go by I won’t be holding my breath for anything spectacular.

I get there are traditions people maybe want to maintain, but my experience of inside Celtic Park from tour a year or two ago is one of manky rugs and sofas at the reception, paint rubbed off old doors, dated and dank carpeting and flooring, just a really tired interior. Trophy room not upgraded in decades. Doesn’t give a good impression to fans, I’m sure new signings must wonder the state of the club when there’s no internal maintenance.

And you get the impression that malaise runs through most departments of the clubs, perhaps other than 1st team coaching.

i am going to do the tour before end of summer.

i really would like us to do a Crystal Palce type main stand .

but it means displacing spenders for sometime, and i dont beleive the plc has the appetite for that.

  4. Dinamo looking lax.Where is the press?.This mob are rotten, letting them off the hook.More urgency needed.

Emdy know why tavpen does not take corners for huns

    —————

To save his energy for penalties? 😳🤷🏼‍♂️

    Well, in Scotland anyway.

  6. Feels like we are waiting for Oreily money to fund upgrades. Replace him with a loan (great planning) and bring in the left back , Center back and strikers needed.

Planning? We have been awful in Europe for seasons. In Scotland, our left back area is a constant target , why, bcoz every club knows is weak defensively. In Scotland, we La if at cross balls due to lack of height (4 Center backs under 6’2 is just dumb).

Rangers will be more threat this year as they build depth (lack of depth cost them the title due to high number injuries), other clubs will cause us problems away from home – unless we fix these issues. It’s been way too long for ongoing problem areas. There is no argument unless you are happy being average!

I don’t think either of these teams will win the Champions League this season…

  8. Huns are the better team here .

    They are no pushovers .

Diomonde and Sterling have power and athleticism, and Dessers looks dangerous.

Surely, if you’re speaking for yourself you say “I” not “you”.

You do not know what impression I have or what they (excluding yourself) feel.

And I would have thought generalising form the base of a study of the carpets is as useful and reliable as tea leaf readings.

  10. ffs

    the rangers are coming,

    dearie me.

big athletic tall guys in the back line and midfield cant ever beat our midget gems.

I really do question whether Celtic have a “list” of signing targets. We probably have a list of positions we’d like to strengthen but actual targets, no!!

have a listen to this to someone in the know

  12. 😂😂😂

    80 mins

Kieran Dowell replaces Mohamed Diomande in Rangers’ fourth and final change.

His first act is to boot the ball straight up in the air.

    83 mins

Vaclav Cerny tries to beat his man but only succeeds in running straight into the defender.

That just about sums up Rangers’ night.

  13. The Rangers are coming!

Seagulls and static defenders look out! 👀 😂😂😂

  14. Let’s not forget as well that they’re taking them back to Hampden not Ibrox for the return leg.

Won’t be the same atmosphere for the and players not got the best of records there either.

  15. Blue tinted specs? 😳🤷🏼‍♂️

    87 mins

Beyond Cyriel Dessers’ header that was saved early in the half, Rangers haven’t had many (if any) clear-cut chances.

    89 mins by Derek Ferguson

Over the piece, I don’t think Rangers deserve to be on the losing side. A draw would be a fair result.

  16. Dessers equalises from a sensational Cerny cross .

Last lick of the ball .

Nothing that they didn’t deserve .

    Tin hat on .

  18. Watched a bit of the huns game.

I thought both teams were crap. Very little skills with wayward passing.

Huns worked harder and deserved the draw.

  19. No surprise in the end.

    Kiev were terrible.

No belief and no real skill.

Pathetic to allow cerny who is a one trick pony to get on his left and cross that at the end.

Kiev had one real effective play to attack down the right and just seemed to be amazed they were winning.

3 or 4 nil to rangers next week.

Annoying as a defeat would have continued rangers dire run of results.

Have to hope Salzburg are better. Annoying that they get another £5m for it.

  20. SFTB

Sadly all they did was try to play on the break.

Kiev were a terrible team with zero belief and average capability for conference league.

No surprise they didn’t even get through conference league qualifiers last season. No chance next week.
