Few Celtic players have glided through four seasons with scarcely a critical comment directed his way but Adam Matthews can make this claim. I didn’t expect him to make it as a first team player as a 19-year-old when he arrived from Cardiff City, but he so comprehensively made the position his own, you’ll struggle to name the two right backs at the club when Adam arrived………….?
The limiting factor in his Celtic career arrived in the form of a tall Swede. Mikael Lustig has had plenty of injury problems but when fit, he’s first choice, with Adam playing backup.
Adam’s most memorable performance came against Barcelona in that game. With Lustig at right back and Emilio Izaguirre unavailable, Adam was asked to play left back. Tony Watt and Victor grabbed the headlines that night but Adam’s performance was remarkable.
He didn’t miss an angle all night, no matter how fast Barca pinged the ball, Adam was there. We faced so many balls on the wing that night but the discipline in defence was remarkable. He was clearly asked to give the Barca players space outside the box and drop to the 18 yard line, I remember yelling “Close him down” all night, but Neil Lennon had done his homework, the tactics were sound. That game is recalled so often, for so many great reasons, but while the tactical discipline deployed was not as sexy as the goals or the atmosphere, it was genuinely world class. We analyse games through different perspectives: when Celtic win like that all you hear about is the atmosphere, but if a German team had won that way, UK pundits would wax lyrical about their discipline. Adam was a big part of that success, and if he goes to Sunderland, he’ll flourish.
Those two right backs were Mark Wilson and shampoo hero Cha Du-Ri, b.t.w. But you knew that anyway, didn’t you? If you can remember the left back we signed that summer you’re doing very well. So many miss the target for every Adam Matthews.
Well done to Celtic, who have improved the look of two stadiums this week.

Brilliant news. If you fight it the way you fight your corner on here, it’s already on the back foot. HH

Burgas Hoops,
Sound advice.
There is so much that can be done with the old ticker nowadays, especially with early detection.
I have been chugging along for the past 18 months with a Pacemaker….whom I call Gerry.
It means that I NWA and we complete the old cartoon pair of Tom and Gerry(spelling licence).

Think we like to believe we will go on forever…..indestructible!
If only :(
My ex developed it and we had some scary moments.
You did the right thing by going to see about it when you did(but you know that)
Does catching it when you have mean there’s no need for a spray?
Burgas, Sorry to hear of your health problem. My old Dad was diagnosed with Angina when he was about forty. Unfortunately he did die, about fifty years later. Mind ye the medicine has improved a lot since then, so I’ll look forward to your contributions for decades to come.
God Bless you Comrade and stay safe.

Good luck with Gerry mate.

Conor McManus gone to Alloa for season and Michael Duffy until 1st January. Ronny doesn’t hang around.

If I was a gambler, I would have punted Venus to win six games in a row to close the match when 3-0 down.

I don’t know what procedures your Medical Plan allows you but check if you can go for a Catheterization.
Twenty years ago I got hit with Angina pains whilst home in Glasgow.
I got back to the States and went for some tests and my doctor suggested I go for a Catheterization.
I did and found out I had one artery 100% blocked and one 40% blocked, I was 52 and 125lbs……???
Cardiologist said I had a good heart as it saw there was a problem and built two collaterals around the 100% blocked artery, had it not done that I would have had a massive heart attack.
He told me there was nothing they could do with a 100% blocked artery and they didn’t clean out ones that were only 40% blocked.
Twenty years on about this time last year I started getting Angina pains again and numbness in my arms whist walking, I walked 2-3 miles every day.
I went to Cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic and said I wanted to go for another Cath, he set it up and off I went.
I went through the procedure and they kept me overnight for observation.
The next morning the Cardio comes in my room and asks how I am doing.
I asked him how the procedure went and he told me that the artery that was 40% was now 80% and that they went in and cleaned it out and put a stent in, I asked if he could tell how the collaterals looked.
He said not to worry about them as with today’s technology they were able to clean out the 100% blocked artery and put a stent in.
He said he had never seen an artery that had been 100% blocked for 20 years as most people die if they have a 100% blocked artery.
I am now 72 and walk at least 2 miles on the beach every day that the weather allows me.
Hope this helps you and others in some way…………….HH
there was a young player called heather

Your father was not alone in losing friends in family over Germany in 1944.
Consequently I talk from the heart and the head in saying the night bombing campaign was a waste of time and effort.
The RAF was given the job of defending Malaya — it failed.
L-M and FC should take its share of the blame but the RAF as a whole failed.
The focus on the bombing campaign hurt our efforts in the Battle of the Atlantic.
Any Liberator bombers available were sent to Europe rather than patrolling the North Atlantic looking for U-boats. Naval shipbuilding was a lower priority than more cannon fodder for the Luftwaffe and this hurt us later in the Pacific.
The heavy bomber campaign was WW1 tactics and a case of do something, do anything.
It was out of place and out of date — the U.S. Lost and learned and then won.
We lost and lost and lost — the only thing we won was the publicity battle.

I kid you not
ATTENTION !** Heather Heap** is now closed. Wimbledon organisers have decided it is now too packed for late coming fans to join the party. Police are turning people away, one officer saying that it is closed until the end of the Watson v Williams match. Gutted.
They smell bloooood at Wimbledon …

My medical cover is for everything weeman (so they told me today) :))
But i will write that down and ask in 3 weeks when i go back.
Many thanks for the information, as all this is new to me as you can imagine.
It was the walking as well as the pain in the arm and chest that got me thinking. I have 2 Huskys and they would walk from dusk till dawn and i was cutting down on the length of walks with them i normally had.
Good Evening.
I’ve a friend who is a Sunderland fan. Travels down for all the home games. Really pleased they have signed Adam Matthews.
First thing they said is “good to be signing someone who has proper Champions League experience. They’ll get no more here, but I love having that in the squad”
Been busy today and reading back.

Great news and best wishes.

One of the huns made redundant is working as a car park attendant there.

Kev J – great news and look forward to many more years of your nonsense. :o)
