Credit to the manager. Brendan Rodgers’ public comments after the Disaster in Dortmund, that he would be happier to lose 7-1 than what he saw was the alternative, to play defensively and lose 3 or 4-0, turned out to be a cunning ruse.
Just as in Dortmund, Celtic’s gameplan was evident from the opening two minutes, but whereas the last time we pushed into the Borussia box, last night we dropped deep, allowing Atalanta the ball and denying them space to exploit.
Adam Idah spent much of the game 30 yards from his own goal. He and Reo Hatate were the first line of resistance, protecting two tightly packed banks of four. When Atalanta tried to pass through, they scarcely saw a sniff of daylight all game. Instead, they were forced wide, from where they threw in an endless series of crosses.
Pasalic came closest. He got a run on Liam Scales and saw his header hit the crossbar and he put the rebound over. That aside, every opportunity Atalanta had was no more than a half chance, due to the presence of at least one Celtic defender, and often two.
Scales and his leftie central defensive partner, Auston Trusty, were imperious. We have seen this before from Scales, who has his second outstanding Champions League game of the season (think about that), but Trusty came of age in Bergamo. This defensive game suited him. Every ball into the box was challenged.
Alex Valle put in a shift Greg Taylor would have been proud of, while Alistair Johnston made at least two crucial blocks.
With 15 minutes to go, I am sure all of the Celtic support thought, “This lot could play all day and not score”. I chastised my dad for putting words to this thought, but in truth, Celtic were very comfortable throughout the second half.
Atalanta had two free kicks and a corner in added time to force the issue. Had they scored, we would have no complaints, but nor would we have been any less impressed by Celtic. This was a mature European performance. Credit to the players, as well.

Bernard Ponsonby is like me,and unlike you racist joe,we are both match attending Tim’s,nothing dim or racist about following a club that was founded by refugees and maintains itself as a beacon against racism and the ‘brown people’ vomit racist scum like you print on these pages before being deleted by Paul67.
So george disnae like Torys, that no suprise, but being the grifter he is he would vote for them if he wanted to like in south Scotland, way before he got rejected at baxley and recently at Oldham, your 1st you tube was after he got elected before getting papped oot at last election
George is a eunuch in political terms, serves no one but George, horsing your giro you sap but the question is –
WHAT DOES HE MAKE OF YOUR ‘BEING INVADED’PATTER?
WHAT WOULD HE MAKE OF YOUR DISTORTED THINKING A BOUT ‘BROWN PEOPLE’?
I would lay odds, even tho some of his dubious workers party may disagree he would label it RACIST,so stop trying to bend his grifter ends towards your racism,as that is what you are.a racist.

What would George say of your racism?
Do please answer, you use him a lot a cover for your racism
Yeh am fake,I meet my many fake friends, sit in a fake seat, imagining I am watching Celtic.

Game day Wednesday. On this day in 1965 107,000 watched us beat thems with two goals from John Hughes.
*when I read this yesterday it took me right back to the game which IMHO was the catalyst for our Big Cup win and the first honest NIAR and NOT the SC win 6 months previously, so I put what I deemed a wee piece together to explain my rational but got caught out with yesterday’s fabulous result that I left the rest to this morning, unfortunately as I typed it grew and grew and grew, so please bear with me as it is a bit long but again IMHO it doe make sense at the end.
oh the SC win was indeed as welcome as the flowers in May and 6 days later when we beat the huns 2-1 in the GC despite losing to the Pars 1-5 in a rearranged League game at East End Park 4 days after the aptly named “Big Billy’s Bumper” game, and to complete that magical chapter we also beat the bully wee 3-0 and spiders 5-0 in the same tournament to finish the season with 2 trophies, who would have thought that at the beginning of the year when we lost 3 and tied 2 games before walloping the sheep 8-0 on the final game of the month, a day before the news broke that the Big Mhan was coming back to his spiritual home.
That summer we basked in this glory and with the signing of joe mcgoals, the huns had finished 5th in the League and been knocked out of the SC by the team just above them in Jock’s final game in charge while we were beating the eventual champions 3-2 at Parkheid, it looked so promising for the new look Celts.
But catastrophe struck on our opening LC fixture, we lost 1-2 up at Tannadice, it truly was “up with the bonnets of bonnie Dundee” and NOT just in the City of Discoveries but all over the country as we were put in our “rightful” place again, now we did mange a 1-0 win over motherwell at home begore losing 0-2 to the other Dundee side again at Parkheid, but the heads wurnae down, not yet, as 4 days later in our League opener we went back up tae Tannadice thumping the home side 3-0 with Johnny Divers scoring our first goal in our NIAR run, this was followed up with a 3-2 win at fir park and 5-1 victory at dens park both in the LC which allowed us to qualify for the knock out stages.
But back to the league and so after our superlative win at Tannadice we beat the bully wee, who were a fine team at the time 2-1 at Parkheid and then back to LC business with the 8-1 thrashing of raith at starks park where their player coach was my first ever hero and the only player that I have ever wept when he was allowed to leave, Bobby Evans, this would set us up for a trip to the bigot dome when we were fully confident in our first victory there in years, well in my teenage lifetime.
Sadly it was NOT to be as an injury early on in the 2nd half to big Billy with the score 1-2 he was stuck up front with chopper replacing him in the middle of the defence but IMHO it was NOT that move which would cost us the win as we did play them off the park but the omission of joe mcgoals that severely hampered us, now the history books will tell us that he was out with an injury but I can still clearly recall Jock admitting on the Monday that he had badly erred in leaving him out
However, we got back to form with a second leg 4-0 win over raith followed up on the Saturday by another 7-1 thrashing this time the sheep followed up 4 days later with a 6-0 thrashing away to go ahead deventer, now we shouldnae look too far into this as dutch teams were still part time then and no the force they would turn intae a couple of years later, but still 6-0 with the buzz bomb and the wee mhan scoring for fun now.
Our next game was on the Monday night due to the Saturday being vacated to allow for a home international game over in belfast and it was the LC semi against top of the table hibbees who actually played the bully wee that weekend as did the huns with 2 players in the national team, same as us, the game was played at the neutral venue of iboak as the huns were at hunden, 2 days later again hmmmm
This was one of the best games I ever seen as after going 1 up the hibbees pulled it back to lead 2-1 until the very last minute of the 90 where we had been pounding them for almost the whole 2 halves, when big tam rampaged once more up the left wing and then let leash one of his famed thunderbolts which bounced off the goalie’s chest leaving, who else, the buzz bomb an empty net to tap it home, no further goals were scored in the extra time however the argument still carried on as to why the replay like the first game had to be played at that snake pit.
Both us and the hibbees protested at the choice of venue as we wanted hunden but were over ruled by the scottish league, despite the valid objections raised by the clubs, we claimed the hunden floodlights were superior to iboak while hibs fully concurred with this stating that miners davy lamps were far more preferable to the ones they used, they also said their fans had easier access to the national stadium from the east, no matter what, the game was played at the bigot dome only five days before the final is due to be played.
So 14 days before the replay was due to be played we beat go ahead 1-0 in quite a subdued home game which bear in mind was only 3 days after the limb sapping LC Semi followed 2 days later with a 5-2 thumping of the calvinists at Parkheid and were 5 up before we let them back intae the game with 2 late goals, and finally 2 days before the replay wtf , we went tae Brockville which I have spoken of before as being vigorously anti Celtic, although we won 4-3 but had to come back 3 times again thanks to the buzz bomb.
So here we were set up for the replay, now this was a very good hibbee side as apart from being the League leaders with such luminaries as future Celt Pat Stanton, former Celt John McNamee, turned us down peter cormack, should have been a Celt Pat Quinn, the brother of former hun and toffee player alex, jim scott, and the top goalscorer in the country and another that turned us down neil martin, who was transferred too sunderland right after the game.
As it was we were far too superior to them havin the game won by half time being 2 up and by the time we had scored our 4th were coasting it before big bad John McNamee was ordered of but NOT as we all thought for scything the Bear down for which he was booked but for something he said to our “friend” mitb r ight h un davidson, and even on the way up to the tunnel he was still at it with the mitb and had to be held back by Stanton and cormack.
And so we were 5 days from a final which to this day I still claim, as I said, was the catalyst for the greatest era in our history and as I have just shown that up to it was NOT plain sailing but from then until the final game of the year an 8-1 thrashing of Morton on Christmas Day, the same day that the huns lost 2-3 to the Pars at the bigot dome who had the future sir furious in their lineup practically in his own backyard, dropped only 1 point to the maryhill magyars as well as proceeding into the quarters of the ECWC.
9 days later we let the rest of the country understand that we were for real after giving the huns an early 90 second lead we then bombarded them and although we went in at the half 0-1 down we were the only support singin, then in the 2nd half shootin intae the Celtic end an ould 1920s song was aired once again, “by 1 by 2 by 3 by 4 by 5, by 1 by 2 by 3 by 4 by 5, we’ll beat the rangers any day as long as we’re alive, by 1 2 3 or 4 or 5” of course we also added by 6 or 7, and why not the Big Mhan sent a message out that day that the Kelly Kids were now mature and ready to take on all comers at home and abroad, even without our injured captain with big John Cushley and able deputy, we were now at the top of the table two points ahead of the huns and with a game in hand.
FCSB have perfectly good goal disallowed for FA. Even fat swally said it was a goal.
Any concerns with the tem ter lst night? Thought Johnson had a hamstring
problem?
hubs are 1 up
Bucharest have left key players at home, big league game at the weekend. They have obviously done their sums and tonight doesn’t matter.
Just had a wee look at the Huns game. Haven`t got a clue if THEY are any good because the Romanians are very poor. Arbroath standard :-))
HS – see above, commentary realed off a list of first team players who didn’t travel because they have a big match at the weekend.
Any team putting out mostly reserves, deserves to get gubbed.Loads of fans travelling, paying lots of cash to watch a farce.
Hope it comes back to haunt them.
Not even the manager, the Chairman made the decision.Just imagine,if that was,——————–
😃😃😃😃😃😃
Was in Bergamo at the Atalanta game,Celtic support were magnificent all day and not a pyro in sig ht must tell the Green Brigade something about their displays with flares, totally unnecessary in support of the team, solid team effort all round with Trusty my MOM

As someone mentioned earlier, the result in Govan will get their hopes up just for it come crashing back down when Aberdeen beat them*👍
*St mirren will only draw with them 🤞
Coneybhoy earlier – thanks for that info. Good to hear some players being prepared for a life outside of football.
Thinking about the result for me thinking of South of Tunis and BigYininMilan – which then got me thinking of Melbourne Mick.
Any news on him?
Hearts are currently 2/1 to beat Hibs on Sunday. A great price
More truthful straight talk from hun McCoist in 5 mins than Cellic TV speak in a decade.
Spurs looking good going forward now.
The young boy Moore looks like a player. First time I’ve seen him.
Our coefficient monkeys are doing great.

I thought you had made a mistake there but no, you are correct and I agree that those are fantastic odds.
Unfortunately, I have lost my cash card today so will probably not put a bet on as I`ll need my spare cash to see me through until I receive a replacement card.
Majestic Hartson.
Bigyininmian sadly passed away still in touch with his daughter
SoT sadly no word from him and a lot of alleys have been looked at,no success.
Melbourne Mick moved up the coast in Oz,he has been on a few times since but was adapting to a new house etc still pops on

AT – knew about SoT and Bigyininmilan – it was Melbourne Mick that informed me if his incredible career in medicine.
I’m glad to hear MM is well – hopefully still enjoying his red wine 👍
Cheers getting back to me 👍
Oh well according to the beeb all is well with the world, MH nae chance that the baddies will get a draw against their brithers on the sabbath
Hot Smoked – Hibs have been terrible all season and Hearts have started putting some performances together.
I think Hearts using the Brighton method for hiring a manager could be a good move. He’s certainly had a decent start.
C’mon the coefficient !
Plus, Manager must stay. He’s a genius after all.
