CELTIC are on the brink of unveiling Vienna Rapid left-back Boli Mbombo as their third signing of the summer.

The Belgian-born defender is expected to arrive within the next 48 hours to seal the £3million switch from the Austrian outfit, as CQN reported last week.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon expects to add Mbombo to centre-back Christopher Jullien, the £7million buy from French side Toulouse, and 18-year-old midfielder Lucas Connell who arrived on a £350,000 development fee from League One team Bolton on Saturday.

The 22-year-old attack-minded defender could be signed before the Champions League opening qualifying transfer deadline tomorrow at 11pm and could even make his debut in Tuesday’s opening tie against FK Sarajevo in Bosnia.

Lennon, speaking to the Daily Record, said: “We are not to far away and he will be another good addition to the squad.

“He gives us competition at left-back, he’s strong, athletic and good on the ball.

“He fits the criteria and, hopefully, he’ll be in before Thursday.”

The Hoops gaffer is determined to strengthen his No.3 slot and has also been linked with Nice’s Romain Perraud, where it has been reported the eight-in-a-row champions have already had two offers rejected.

Max Lowe, who has had two impressive loan spells at Aberdeen from Derby, has already been mentioned as a possible recruit.
