McCoist quite right to hold firm line

980

In terms of pure logic, Ally McCoist was quite right to insist, “I can also assure every Rangers fan I will not be accepting any talk of stripping the club of titles. That is something we will never accept and everyone at the club shares this view.”

It is outrageous to put Sevco in the position of accepting Rangers are stripped of previous league titles while due process has not been carried out.  The very fact that the SFA and SPL are negotiating with Sevco over this matter is reason enough for McCoist to issue a firm rebuttal.  Quite simply, if the authorities are prepared to negotiate, their offer should be rejected until the last moment possible, at which point they will be meekly accepted.

The SFA and SPL must allow due process to take place and remove any need for Sevco to rubber-stamp a judgement on Rangers.  It is wholly inappropriate to discuss or agree the consequences of a guilty verdict, or subsequent punishments (losing titles won illegally is not a punishment), until a verdict is recorded.

Due process, please, nothing more and nothing less.  If Rangers didn’t illegally register players for over a decade neither they nor Sevco have anything to worry about.

I agree with you. Technically poorer players can achieve a higher % of ball retention if they have more options available from their team mates.

Those options, irrespective of formations, can be greatly improved through movement into appropriate areas.

I’ve long held the opinion that our movement doesn’t aid our technically poorer players in keeping the ball for sustained periods, certainly not against better opposition.

Would actually qualifying for European competition by playing football this year be regarded as progress from last year ?

    Hail Hail

    ——————

I’m actually not entirely sure what you mean and I’m not being deliberately obtuse :-)

Progress would be doing better than last year.

Progress in Europe would be qualifying for the CL group stages.

If that’s not achieved then progressing from the Europa League group section.

  7. PFAyr don’t get the chance to see Celtic much these days as I’m livin out in Singapore, so always enjoy the occasion – it’s just a pity that the team were such a let down. A lot of people travelled a long way to watch that rubbish last night – a lot of people brought along friends or family to show them what Celtic are all about. The overwhelming impression I am sure for most of these newcomers to Celtic are that the support really is something special, however the team are bog-standard and nothin very special at all. I was due to take a mate of mine to the match last night, however he wasn’t able to make it due to unforseen circumstances – after that disgraceful performance I have to admit that I’m really glad that he wasn’t able to make it. Anyway, come tomorrow I am sure I’ll put that shambles to the back of my mind and delude myself that we have a team of potential and quality :-) hailhail !

  8. I don’t want the trophies awarded to us…..just a big black mark in the record books that generation after generation can see and question….with the great answer of ‘cheating huns’.

In the debate over whether the SPL buys the broadcast rights to SFL games featuring Rangers, we’ve just spotted a rather interesting quirk. Sevco Scotland Limited was accepted to the SFL as an Associate Member, and will not be eligible for full Member status for four years. Rule 19 of the SFL Constitution says:

“An Associate Member shall have no financial interest in the assets of the League and shall not be accorded any voting rights.”

We assume “the assets of the League” include its media rights. (Indeed, as far as we can see those would be pretty much the only assets jointly owned by the League.) Rule 19 would seem to suggest that if the SFL does want to sell “Rangers” games to the SPL – or indeed to anyone else – not only will the newco not be entitled to a vote on the matter, but it won’t be entitled to any of the money either.

We haven’t seen anyone else mention this. It seems quite significant

Oh and once the cheated titles are stripped I want them added to ours, you’d be daft not to.

Last year we only qualified for the Europa League last year due to FC Sion being bad boys. So it can be considered progress to an extent if we actually qualify off of our own backs by actually playing football to the required standard.

If we dont qualify for Europe then we are either standing still or going backwards.

After yesterdays PERFORMANCE in a meaningless PRE SEASON FRIENDLY where CELTIC fans are not encouraged by the club to go to SEEMINGLY or even asked to PAY to watch I have to say I dont think we are progressing. Since Sion we have lost Mark Wilson, Cha Du Ri, Loovens and Majstorovic. Four of the oldest players in the squad ??? How many international caps between those four ?

    Teuchter, lovely post

S.o.Tunis, agree and would want more.

Titles – take them all, they are ours by right. They can only be tainted if we cheated. We didn’t, they did, they are rightfully ours.

Talking last night with an Olympiakos ST holder, his seat is on the halfway line, in the equivalent of our North stand.

He pays 750 Euros for that seat, so fair puts my £600 for my seat in South stand upper into perspective, IMO.

A Greek teacher for example earns about a third of what I earn.

He does however get entry to CL, Cup matches etc at no extra cost.

Maybe we fans, who can afford it, could contribute more financilly

After the abuse Donegal got last year,it is good to see them continue to redefine how the game should be played.

They have built on last year’s solid foundation and added a more lethal finish to their game.

Last year I compared them to Barcelona, in a semi joking way.

On TV3, the summariser, on awarding Mark Mc.Hugh the motm award, likened him to Xavi.
