LUKE McCOWAN celebrated his sixth goal for Celtic as he tucked away an inviting low cross from Yang Hyun-jun in the holders’ 5-0 Scottish Cup rout of Raith Rovers at Parkhead last night.
The all-action midfielder, who joined his boyhood idols in a £1million switch from Dundee on deadline day in August last year, is hoping to play his part all the way to the grand finale at Hampden on May 24.
McCowan, 27, missed out of Premier Sports League Cup glory in December after being Cup-tied with his former club, but he now has his eyes set on bringing down the curtain on his debut Hoops crusade in triumphant fashion.
The busy middle-of-the-park operator and his team-mates now await tomorrow night’s draw to discover their fate in the quarter-final draw.
CELTIC VIEWS…Daizen Maeda and Luke McCowan speak to the club’s TV after the latest success.
McCowan was still smiling after the romp against Barry Robson’s Championship outfit as he hailed his colleagues – and, in particular, hat-trick hero Daizen Maeda who has hit 21 goals this term to take his three-year total to an impressive half-century.
The Greenock-born engine-room performer, speaking to Celtic TV, said: “His mentality in every game is ruthless.
“He wants to score every game, help the team to defend and attack at every moment.
“That brushes off on everyone in the squad and he’s a real joy to play alongside.
“We knew going in to the game that we had to be at it and put in a performance that reflects our mentality.
“And I think the boys did that. Right to the final whistle, we were still pressing and looking for that extra goal.
“So, credit to everyone.”
