Amid the acres of confusion that surrounds Rangers and the Scottish game at the moment, one matter is now clear of the tax authorities, not subject to dispute by the various parties squabbling over Rangers, and free for the SFA to examine. If they are interested.
Former Rangers director, Mike McGill, when speaking to the media alongside Sir David Murray on Tuesday, said, “The club used an old offshore EBT scheme in 1999 with three players. That scheme is the subject of the small tax case.
“The Revenue provided some information to us in early 2011 and we conceded based on that information and provided for payment in the club accounts.”
The simple question for the SFA is, were details of payments made through the old offshore EBT scheme, which HMRC challenged last year and Rangers’ old board conceded, submitted to the SFA?
If they were, our faith in the governance of the game can be restored and we can all look forward to the Cup Final on Sunday. If not, whose registrations were invalid and which games did they participate in?
As this question affects more than just SPL football, the SFA are the only body competent to investigate this matter. They are also competent to administer any appeal process. We hear the SPL inquiry will not mature until after the HMRC-Rangers First Tier Tribunal reports, which could be well after the SPL split, potentially creating chaos if Rangers were incorrectly placed in the top six.
This is a governance issue of enormous proportions. The SFA should use McGill’s comments as an opportunity to take a fresh look at this issue and quickly instigate an inquiry.
I’m off the see the lawyers this morning. More later, I hope!

Coming up on Sunday for the game with a mate. Is there a CQN pub anyone can recommend. Do you guys ever meet up pre game????? Also what time do the pubs open on Sunday, is it 12pm? Flight lands at 10am in Glasgow Airport and while i’m not out to get ‘tanked up’ I have no desire to be twiddling my thumbs for a couple of hours! Any early houses that are Tim friendly in the city centre area?
quonno,
In the UK there is now no legal requirement to have a company secretary, although many still do. Here’s how Wiki describes the role:
What is a Company Secretary?

I have to comment on Clyde again, sorry Bhoys.
Keevins and Duffy admit they don’t believe Murray was ‘duped’ by Whyte.
If Murray is calling the 2nd contracts ‘letters of intent’, a term that has subsequently been adopted by Darryl King, how are we supposed to believe those letters where only of intent and not legally binding when Murrays credibility is already in question on the point of being duped?
Clyde should really consider theory entrenched position.

I said weeks ago that I didn’t think they’d come back with any result until after the split. Rangers could finish 6th on 0 points and it would make a mockery of the league to new found levels even with everything else going on. But I wouldn’t put the SFA or SPL past doing that to save Rangers from the drop.
I’d imagine there would be massive court cases if that were to happen and maybe they’ve not factored that in to their plans.
Paul67’s last two lines are a bit ominous, could he be facing a gagging order ?
Morning cqn
Another great article paul67
Every day the sfa and spl refuse to act shows the level of incompetence.
R C Ogilvie has already hung out chic dung and sdm to the msm.
So Stewart regan and Neil doncaster better not be asleep at the wheel.
With the evidence that is already out in the public domain ,when the FTT
Case produces a verdict ,if will not be a couple of pages long of hearsay.
The document will be a very detailed account of names, dates and verbal evidence.
Every single piece will implicate them or other’s who stood idly by and did nothing while in a position of authority.
The longer they hide behind the FTT case verdict while other rules are breached could be the death of Scottish football

so with D&P having to re-apply for administration.
do all the -75%, -50%, -25% contracts need re-negotiated.
ooft…hearts and the scumbags…oops
sorry the scumbags and the real scumbags have
both been involved in dodgy contract/wage practices
going by reports today and yesterday.
so, heres the question…if they both go to 0 points
due to fielding ineligable players, who gets relegated.
id say it must be the real scumbags as they’d be on -10
points due to administration, if indeed they are in administration….eh?
and is daryll king back peddaling like a duck with his feet on the wrong way round? he didnt realise the trouble he’d get into.

I certainly don’t have much hope that any of the club chairmen who might face relegation would take court action in that case.
Timabhouy,
Who mentioned Ireland? And in any case I don’t see any contradiction between wanting both a united Ireland and a United Kingdom.
I was referring to your support for the Taxpayers Alliance, beloved of the Daily Mail. Interesting that the phrase “right wing nutter” made you think of Alex Salmond though.
Morning all,
If you’re like me and you know nothing about the horses but fancy a wee punt on Cheltenham, there’s a horse called Hectors Choice running at 4 bells today. An omen?
Maybe one of the horsey set can tells us if it’s worth a shot?
Could someone repost alex thompsons tweets again please
They really gave me a warm glow :o)
From a Herald article today:
“The prime, probably only, objective of HMRC will be to recover the tax owed, whether that is via a CVA or by winding the club up,” says Andrew Trollope QC, who successfully defended Peter Storrie, the former Portsmouth chief executive, against charges of tax evasion. “Based on the Portsmouth case, HMRC seem to care little for history and tradition, rather their avowed policy appears to be that top clubs must pay their dues. Of course, HMRC won’t be the only creditor, although, as the largest, they will be calling the shots. But, it is very difficult for HMRC to justify any action which does not recoup the tax owing, particularly if it looks like deliberate non-payment as opposed to the inevitable result of incompetence/poor management.”
Wonder if Murray (P) has read this?
I bet Daryll has had to sacrifice a few goats in order to make some goats brain soup (makes your urine stink BTW so should be easy to tell) for his Masters.

At court next Monday, just to be sure they have covered all the bases, Duff and Duffer will notify the following:

SFA – Scottish Football Association
FAS – Federation of American Scientists
SAF – Sir Alex Ferguson
AFS – Allied Furnishing Supplies
ASF – Atlantic Salmon Federation

Its a legal requirement to have a Comp Sec in a Plc. s271, Company Act 2006
A private company isn’t required to have a Co Sec but anything else required to be done by a secretary may be done by a Director or someone specifically authorised by the Directors

Making progress on Rangers/SFA/ SPL. Coming to Glasgow Monday to begin filming…..
Our investigation’s gong to be wide – not just Rangers but governance of the Scottish game ….
Possibly even the ‘succulent lamb’ ‘fine red’ culture might need examination….
And despite what many are saying, Rangers fans have been thoughtful, constructive and supportive – they get their say online today
Ok here’s a very important question that needs to be asked:
If Rangers are going to go under, why is it so important to change the voting structure, surely it would be Celtic vs the rest and they would get their way anyway?
The only reason I can see is they want to bribe Rangers into conceding in return for voting them back in. They want to have their cake and eat it. Everyone wins, bar us.
Paul is certainly on the ball at the moment but he had better get his PayPal button back on if he is going to see lawyers.
Unless of course he has found some kind solicitor/advocate who can do him/us a service “Pro Bono”.
We really do need to get behind Paul in every way we can I feel.

So the SPL wait until now to ask for a copy of all hun contracts. I would have thought that as soon as you open an investigation into players contracts, the FIRST thing you would do is ask for copies of said contracts. Instead the SPL wait, what ? Two weeks ?
A paranoid person would think they were giving the huns time to clean up the trail…..

Brilliant piece re Vanessa, it really does get things in perspective that’s for sure.Does anybody know, now that the target has been raised, whether Vanessa has begun her treatment yet and if so, how she is progressing?
It really would be the best news ever to hear she is well and truly on the mend.

I try to remember when listening to The Sniveller & his cohorts on Snyde that he is a comedian,a nasty wee man & one of the prime apologists for all that is wrong with Scottish football. I would say that he’s a liar, but because of all his protestations about knowing nothing about the internet (the contents of which he seems remarkably well informed, however), I won’t.
Instead,I’ll use the vague term : he’s economical with the truth; and the word: dissembler. He’d like that, and we Celts aim to please.

Just because you’re Paranoid, it doesn’t mean they are not out to get you!
Tell you what, I’m now only going to watch Channel 4 news, even if it does drag on a bit.
I cannot help thinking that McGill’s statement was all far to easy, why would he make it so obvious…….This one needs watching, the Statement I mean, not McGill…por cierto.
MICHAEL KELLY, JAMES KELLY & A MIS-REMEMBERENCE?????
Celtic Soul Brother- Supporting Kano 1000:
“Here is a piece of that history which they do not know but which might convince them that the club should extend a helping hand to their great rivals. Rangers were once before in financial difficulty. It was in the 1920’s when my grandfather, James Kelly (a former Scotland centre-half), was chairman of Celtic. Rangers had a temporary cash flow problem and their board came out to his house in Blantyre to explain the problem and seek help. Celtic gave them an unconditional short-term loan.”
=============================
Well, well, how very very odd!
That James Kelly was our ‘friend’s’ grandfather is surely a fact.
That James Kelly was Chairman of Celtic in the 1920’s is surely a fact?
Well NO actually!!!
James was in fact Chairman from 1909-1914 when he was usurped by Tom White.
You would think his grandson would be well aware of this fact wouldn’t you? The idea that Rangers were in a temporary cash-flow difficulties in the 1920s is laughable. That decade saw the dawn of an Ibrox era which transferred the domination of Scottish football from Celtic to RFC and which, to all intents and purposes, was not overturned until the arrival of their Nemesis in 1965.
That decade also saw RFC build (1928) the most palatial of Archibald Leitch’s grandstands, while Celtic built a more modest edifice, one within a year of the other. Celtic sold players to fund it!
Indeed in this decade money was a real issue at Celtic Park, not surprisingly given The Great Depression. It seems very unlikely when the reserve team was discontinued to save money that we’d be handing out cash to RFC except of course if there was a generous profit to be made!!! So IF it happened it was perhaps not for altruistic reasons!!!
Now as my heading suggests Michael’s recollections may just have failed him and the event was from an earlier era when Rangers were only the most regular team, though not always, to be the ‘best of the rest’. Or perhaps James was on the Board rather than Chairman but I wonder why RFC wouldn’t apply to Tom White?
Somewhat diminishes Michael’s contribution I’d say though he’s right about repatriating the titles & cups!
This Rankers administration is weirder than the strangely surreal world of quantum physics…it makes subatomic theory look like a child’s painting by numbers set…
should have read “given the lead up to The Great Depression”
