McGill comments allow SFA scope for inquiry

440

Amid the acres of confusion that surrounds Rangers and the Scottish game at the moment, one matter is now clear of the tax authorities, not subject to dispute by the various parties squabbling over Rangers, and free for the SFA to examine.  If they are interested.

Former Rangers director, Mike McGill, when speaking to the media alongside Sir David Murray on Tuesday, said, “The club used an old offshore EBT scheme in 1999 with three players.  That scheme is the subject of the small tax case.

“The Revenue provided some information to us in early 2011 and we conceded based on that information and provided for payment in the club accounts.”

The simple question for the SFA is, were details of payments made through the old offshore EBT scheme, which HMRC challenged last year and Rangers’ old board conceded, submitted to the SFA?

If they were, our faith in the governance of the game can be restored and we can all look forward to the Cup Final on Sunday.  If not, whose registrations were invalid and which games did they participate in?

As this question affects more than just SPL football, the SFA are the only body competent to investigate this matter. They are also competent to administer any appeal process. We hear the SPL inquiry will not mature until after the HMRC-Rangers First Tier Tribunal reports, which could be well after the SPL split, potentially creating chaos if Rangers were incorrectly placed in the top six.

This is a governance issue of enormous proportions. The SFA should use McGill’s comments as an opportunity to take a fresh look at this issue and quickly instigate an inquiry.

I’m off the see the lawyers this morning.  More later, I hope!

    But of course there’s infinity.

We know there is an infinite number of numbers, for example.

Also, we know there is an infinite number of parallel universes, like that one where Spock is evil and has a goatee.

There’s probably a parallel universe where Craig Whyte is scrupulously honest and has a goatee.

Kammy asked mccann about the 2 contracts ai ibrokes, mccann spluttered ‘i dont know anything about that’.

then answered a completely different question from what Kammy asked him.

I looked like maybe he did know something about it, as it was around the time of his signing he may actually know SOMEONE who had 2 contracts.

    Or maybe not your honour!!

The Theory of Infinite Worlds is pretty well established in physics now. The gist of the idea is an old one going back to Anaximander in Ancient Greece- his theory pre-dated Socrates and Plato ( a kind of Golden Age of speculative thought). Anaximander’s basic idea was that there was an infinity of infinite worlds and it was only your ‘finite’ mind that limited the comprehension of this Infinite Reality. In fact it was your mind that created the ‘illusion’ of a finite world.

Although it is virtually impossible to demonstrate experimentally there has been much incidental evidence from work on fifth field force, negative mass, warp drive, Heim Theory, the Casimur Effect, exotic matter etc that shows material presence of an unknown force at work. Most ideas come out of the concept of Zero Point Energy developed by Einstein and Otto Stern from an idea by Max Planck (some call it Vacuum Energy)…and is brilliantly demonstrated by the work of Canadian inventor John Hutchison.

The concept of Infinity does tie in well with what many Mystics such as Boehme, St John of the Cross, the Sufi’s etc all claim to be an Infinite Reality beyond the five senses and the limited “finite” human intellect…

Could you post a link to the Ewan Murray posts on the Guardian website?

    ——————-

Of course, mate. Ewan Murray initially posted this article back in October 2010.

It soon transpired that the allegation that Steven Craven quit because of abuse from Celtic fans was a lie, and we continued to challenge Ewan about the source (at the SFA, seemingly) of his false accusation. See the comments below this article, for example.

Most recently – yesterday, in fact – Ewan’s lies were again exposed in the latest Guardian Football Weekly podcast comments, here.

Have a look at attendances at this link:

    http://stats.football365.com/dom/SCO/PR/attend.html

I’m not advocating a 50/50 but when, if the average after 15 games is an indicator, the Celtic gate would be 1,902,530 after 38 games, this at an average of £20 a ticket brings in £38.05M.

Hearts by contrast using their equivalent figures earn £10.2M. Now whilst our gate income would halve to £19M, Hearts would only increase by £2M if they took half our gate over four games. In short what we give up has to be shared amongst the rest still giving Celtic a good wage advantage. If the share is less than 50/50 (and costs of staging aside) there is an argument that a club has to benefit from having the largest support, then Celtic should still have a clear wage advantage.

Like it or lump it a game depends on a) having opposition, b) a degree of competitiveness and whilst money spent is not the only factor it sure helps get a decent team on the park.

The problem is not what other clubs might get, it is how they might use what they get and if all it means is say Hearts pay more to the same players for the same standard then all it would do is lower the Celtic standard without raising Hearts.

Putting the money from a more equitable split into a development fund would make more sense than simply introducing wage inflation to the smaller clubs with no improvement in quality.

Hmmmm. Whilst generally in favour of a more equitable split this has me thinking.

as I said scientific theory cannot be proven only disproven, whilst we wait for the next big theory to be destroyed we acept the current theory inignorance.

Infinity only exists as a general consensus becase we have not made anything that can count that high.

  16. Brian Kennedy, A Blue Knight? Read the below.

    Oliver Holt

    Daily Mirror 19/01/2009

This is how a football club dies.

This is how, more specifically, people kill it.

This is how they take it away from its town and make it so that, half the time, it can’t even play on its own ground.

This is the story of Stockport County, who have lost 11 league games in succession, who have been in administration for eight months and are facing liquidation.

They’re my local club, the club I grew up supporting, the club closest to the place I grew up in.

But if you support a club anywhere outside the Premier League, it could be your story, too. Probably, it soon will be.

I’m bored of being sanguine and fatalistic about what is happening to County. That’s what the men who seem to be doing so little to save the club want us to be.

That includes Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council which is distinguishing itself only by its inaction.

And it includes administrator Leonard Curtis, a company appointed in April this year when the club was £300,000 in debt.

Listen to this: in the first six months of dealing with the case Leonard Curtis ran up fees of £314,511.50 in time costs, charged at up to £395 an hour.

Beautiful, isn’t it. They’re supposed to be trying to help find a buyer for the club. They didn’t even start returning calls from the press until recently.

Brian Kennedy wouldn’t return my calls, either. He’s the owner of Sale Sharks, the man who installed a rugby club at Stockport’s Edgeley Park ground six years ago so that County are now second class citizens in their own home.

It’s important not to forget the favours Kennedy has done Stockport in the past. He invested £4million into the club when he owned it and then sold it to the Supporters Trust for £1 in 2005.

I accept all that and I also accept that plenty of other people bear responsibility for the state the club is now in.

But let’s be honest about Sale Sharks. They’re squatters, basically. They’re squatters who have, perfectly legally, moved into somebody’s else’s home while they’re still there.

Edgeley Park isn’t theirs. Not really. Money says it is, of course. But they don’t have any real affection for it. They don’t have any history there.

Why do they want to clamp themselves on to Stockport’s ground like leeches? Why can’t they build their own ground?

They’ve only played at Edgeley Park for six years. Stockport County have played there since 1902.

And yet time after time this season, Stockport games have been postponed because it can’t stand up to the demands of rugby and football being played on it.

I went to Stockport’s FA Cup second round tie with Torquay United ten days before Christmas.

It had already been postponed twice. Edgeley Park was in such a state, they had to play it at Macclesfield Town’s Moss Rose ground instead.

It was one of the most depressing games I have ever been to. Not because County lost 4-0 but because not even being able to play a home game at Edgeley Park made it clear how close the club was to extinction.

Kennedy gets awfully upset when he is criticised by County fans and points out he makes a £1m loss from Sale Sharks.

He says he’s in to sports ownership, not for profit, but because he wants to put something back into the local community.

Well, I’m sorry Mr Kennedy but County aren’t exactly thriving under your idea of philanthropy.

We’re so skint, the players turned up for work before Christmas to find a ‘For Sale’ sign planted on the training ground.

So skint that we’ve got 16-year-olds on the bench. So skint the goalkeeping coach Paul Gerrard has shelled out more than £1,000 of his own money for fitness equipment.

I can’t speak for other County fans but I wish Kennedy had never come anywhere near the club.

I wish he’d moved his rugby club to a rugby ground somewhere instead of taking over a football ground.

I wish he’d never had anything to do with us. Maybe County would have folded already if he hadn’t been involved but I doubt it.

And maybe this latest burst of criticism will prompt him to cut County loose and leave the club to its fate.

But what Kennedy doesn’t seem to understand is that among County’s many, many problems, its biggest is its association with Sale Sharks.

County’s identity is being eaten away by that association. The club is losing its soul.

That’s why there haven’t been any feasible offers for the club yet.

County needs a buyer who understands that. A buyer that loves football not rugby.

A buyer that puts the football club first.

A buyer that gives us our club back.
