McGinn will sign for Villa

229

John McGinn will sign for Aston Villa before the English transfer window closes tomorrow afternoon.  Celtic’s most recent offer for the player was made several days ago and, unlike earlier bids, was not rejected by Hibs.  I understand Villa matched this offer, and the terms offered to the player.  While Hibs were in Europe, they were always going to wait until near the English deadline.

Celtic were honest with the player, who was told he would not be first choice, but would get a chance when others were rested or injured.  Steve Bruce, however, told McGinn he would be first choice every week and the core of the new Villa midfield.

I know he’s a Celtic fan, but the player is entitled to make this decision for football reasons.  He will be 23-years-old in two months, not by any measure a youth.  Young players come, happy to wait their turn, but it’s a hard sell to someone who wants to play every week.

We move on…

  1. Since the outlets aren’t showing tonites game…….can it be viewed on CELTIC TV…….HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT getting logged on to CELTIC TV………help appreciated……many thanks

  2. If Aston Villans have offered £23k a week for J McG then surely we can match that.

Whether we want to or he is worth it is a different matter.

    Anyway come on the hoops.

I would rather see Kouassi given his chance as McGinn coming in but that’s just me, I don’t really give a shit about his Celtic supporting credentials..

Glad to take in a game tonight.

Too much conjecture and guesswork on here tonight dressed up as “informed and in the know” – tabloid tactics.

We had significant angst on here on 31 August 2016 because we didn’t sign a playmaker. We went on to play CL and win a treble.

Same last year when the third striker didn’t materialise. Same outcomes achieved.

    Wait and see?

  7. The John McGinn train has gone. It’s dead to me already.

However, with all other trains being cancelled at short notice, I am now worried about getting to the game on time. Need to head out now.

Hope everyone can put the hassle and divisiveness behind htem.

The interesting match tonight is Celtic vs AEK not BR vs PL

As I have said a few times, I was a bit underwhelmed by JMcGinn, and would rather have seen Kouassi get a run in the team…

    HOWEVER…..

I tend to like CelticBy Number’s work… and he if says JMcG would have helped….. ‘

    then I’m switching sides….

I WANT MCGINN AND I’M GOING TO BE VERY UNHAPPY IF WE DONT SIGN HIM.

So…let me see if I’ve got this right……

McGinn desperately wanted to play for Celtic.

Celtic were offering a similar financial package as Villa but with the added bonus of cups ,l medals and CL football.

Yet , Mcginn wanted a guarantee of a starting place in the team , something that no other player except perhaps the captain has…..???????? WOW!

I’m not desperately unhappy about losing out on McGinn , I just find the circumstances and explanation a bit strange.

so, did Celtic offer the same wages as AV (as P67 says), or did AV offer more (as Matt McGlone says)?`

  14. When sevco and level5 come out with the spin that Paul67 came out with earlier, we laugh and mock them.

  15. HaHaHaHaHa

Villa have just released his welcoming video on Twitter. It’s got McGinn taking off a Hibs shirt to reveal a Celtic shirt underneath, then he takes the Celtic shirt off to reveal a Villa shirt, then he kisses the badge.

    Haven’t see it right enough

  16. On john mcginn he’s the only player in spfl who has consistently gave Broonie a hard time

and on occasions out played him! threfore it was a no brainer to sign mcginn.

I tried to get MCGinn but got you Arzani. Boss says I’ll take him but I still want McGinn. I can also get you Roberts on loan again on the proviso we make the Champions League.

I couldn’t get you that centre back you wanted but here’s Marvin.

Hello, this is WEE BGFC. Thanks very much. You’re right, we need well educated Tims so we have more of a chance of being represented – i.e. government, lawyers etc. – in the future. The inner-masonry in Scotland will be brought down.

There is a McGinn family member on the bus. She is gutted tonight.

  21. nonsense article today. Bottom line = Villa should not have been in the equation. We dithered because we are complacent with a tinge of arrogance. There are plenty more players out there who could add quality to the team – more importantly is the affection this has on BR.

He has been professional and meticulous from day 1 – the same level of ambition and drive has not been matched (yet) by the board in this transfer window. The negative ripple effects through the club will have ramifications if not addressed.

Tonights game, as important as it is, seems like an after thought – the energy is elsewhere due to BR interview, negative PR etc..

  22. The choice was McGinns and he’s done what he thinks is best. Disappointing but time to move on.
