McGregor, no better finisher in Scottish football

327

Very grateful to whoever at the BBC researched that Celtic are the third team in European football history to achieve the Double Treble, after The New Saints (TNS) and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).  This level of brilliance it exceptional by any standards.

Despite the levels of dominance TNS and PSG enjoy in their domestic leagues, neither were able to complete a Treble Treble; only Celtic can do that now.

The Scottish Cup Final was an exercise in game management by Brendan Rodgers.  His team took a two goal lead and set about making sure Motherwell would be unable to lay a glove on them.

The strongest weaker foot in the game

Among the remarkable performances on the day, special mention has to go to Callum McGregor.  Yet again he scored on the big stage, yet again with his supposed weaker foot, yet again the crucial first goal.  His game intelligence bought him the space to attack when the ball was headed out of the Motherwell penalty area.  The shot, hit on the drop-volley, was controlled and crisp.

I doubt there is a better finisher in Scottish football.

  1. Heroes for Ever (from last night)

    What a beautiful post.

Your Helen will surely now have one of the best seats in the house …

  2. Hunderbirds are Gone on

    Heroes Are Forever

A poignant and brave post. How sad. Helen will never really die, as she will live forever in your family’s hearts and memories. Deepest heartfelt condolences to you.

  3. Kev is a pain Ok but he is not alone. There are other attention seeking posters filling the pages with banal nonsense & dumbing down the whole site.

I called out one guy weeks ago, my post got 7 or 8 responses, none of them backing me.

At that stage I had to question what the hell was I doing on here.

I decided then, I would confine my comments to live update threads, the next update thread was either the Hibs or Killie game, the criticism the Bhoys were given for their below par performance was the last straw for me and I decided to leave.

I still lurk most days, I still think the blog is a very valuable resource and wish it well.

The post last night about our dearly departed Comrade, Helen was beautiful & we all feel her poor Dad’s sense of loss but also his justifiable sense of pride.

Rightly or wrongly I believe some other Posters are posting absolute lies to try & tug at our heart strings & get attention. It annoys me to see them succeed.

There is enough happening in the real world to keep me busy & getting annoyed about cyber trolls is nonsensical, Accordingly I have retired from the Blog but I just like today now & then I may be tempted to stick my oar in.

    God Bless All.

  6. Over the years on here,I haven’t told any lies,on the comments I make,it’s been my opinions, and the way I have seen players and coaches, and if there behaviour is out of order ,then they deserve to be criticized, then so be it , Celtic Men , Supporters, etc, and my comments ,have led fellow Celtic Supporters,to call me all the names under the Sun,but I will never change on here,Yours sincerely Timbhoy 1,2, Oldbhoy, etc.

  7. CORKCELT.

I think your correct, the site is going downhill rapidly, there are moaners who come on and spoil the site for others,In the early years of CQN it was a treat to come on here, now it’s a struggle to come on here at anytime, There are more moaning minnies come on here than genuine Lovers of Celtic and all it stands for.

My love of Celtic will never disappear, but I think CQN needs to clamp down on the moaners and let the true Celtic supporter enjoy CQN again.

Liam Henderson’s Bari have a tricky route through the Serie B play-offs during the next few days.

    Round 1 v Citadella 26/5; 2 legs Semifinal winner v Frosinone 29/5, 2/6; 2 legs Final winner v Venezia/Perugia/Palermo 7/6, 10/6. All the best, Liam. Stay in the team.

  9. When are the Sevconians going to stop with all this ‘start again at the bottom’ crap?

If you had started again, where you should have been was as a non-league club.

You were given a foot up, a head start by the authorities overriding yet another bunch of rules, to appease the numbskulls in blue.

You were not demoted, kicked out the league or any other such action. You were given favourable treatment allowing your club to start, as a new club, in Division 3, instead of club who had every right to be there.

    Just in case you’d forgotten.

  10. Bobby Murdoch’s Curled-Up Winklepickers

Bobby, please reconsider. You’re one of the posters on here that provides the glue that holds CQN together. KevJ’s posts no longer trouble me because I scroll by on every single occasion. They used to get me really annoyed and I would respond angrily. Then I read one of the wisest pieces of advice on here that I have ever seen: “Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level ánd beat you with experience.”

Come back, Bobby and be guided by those words. The blog needs ghuys like you.

  11. My friends in Celtic,

Celtic has virtually reinvented itself over the last decade, especially over the last two years. The scenes on Saturday played all over the world were an absolute joy to witness and participate to a very small degree.

Our infrastructure and surroundings have been transformed to a degree that I never thought possible and our support has expanded accordingly. Although our ” core”support is still resolute we have reached out to a much wider patronage

Since the concept of CQN, much has changed. For a start we are all about 15 years older, maybe less tolerant and possibly embrace change less than our younger counterparts.

Different strokes for different folks –

    For what it’s worth .

I have no problem re KEV J –opinion is opinion but I’d be happier if he could reduce the Mark E Smith Smith style Repetition Repetition Repetition .

I do have big problems re trolls — bigotry and prejudice is being dumped on this blog for the sole purpose of hoping to illustrate that – see -they’re just the other side of the coin from us…Vile !!!!

Back to the cycling-it’s been a great Giro —

  14. Heroes are Forever. I was so moved by your beautiful tribute to your daughter Helen. What a wonderful supporter she was. Your description of how she lived her life in spite of the many difficulties she must have encountered was so, full of love and admiration. Many of us never ever experience the things she did in showing her love for Celtic. Perhaps in our moments of self pitying as supporters we should reflect on how Helen gave her all for the team she loved.

Prayers were offered for her at Mass today. But I think Helen is now in the eternal Paradise sharing the glory with Jinky, Bobby, Tommy Burns and Big Jock. How they must have celebrated together.

Helen, thanks for your courage and your example to us all of what a true Celt is. R.I.P.
