McGuiness sabbatical somewhat frustrating

227

If I’m being bluntly honest, news that Jim McGuiness was told to “concentrate on Donegal” until October or November was not welcome.  I hear great things about Jim’s work with, and from, players he has had access to.  Instead of sending him back across the sea, I hoped he would be working more with the players we will look to, to deliver this season.

Even if his work was limited to the development squad, the reason given for knocking him into the long grass, that we get into the teeth of the season in October/November time, is incongruous.  Player development takes place before the weeks with crunch games, and the whole point of the development squad is not to win crunch Youth games, it is to develop players.

If he is as effective as everyone who works with him says he is, an opportunity has slipped. Our place in the world right now depends on us working the margins, getting an extra couple of percentage points out of the players. We’ve all seen how the alternative – “let’s just get stuck in” – works out, it leads to failure and decline.

Where are we aiming for now, Celtic? Somewhat frustrated.

One good one out, one good one in. Delighted to hear John Paul Taylor is back as Supporter Liason and Service Officer. John Paul has probably spent more hours working with fans, and fans groups, than anyone else still walking the planet. Smart appointment.

  1. Jungle Jim @ 15:47,

“If there are no hidden reasons for Jim McGuinness`s departure then I am very disappointed with this move. I had high hopes of Jim Mc having an almost Stein-like effect on our player”

The motivation, innovation that Jim McGuiness brings could be huge. Our youngsters are not developing that’s for sure.

Andy Murray proved quite emphatically our young sportsmen can have the necessary attitude and aptitude to succeed at the highest level.

I was listening to Five Live, the game Man United won the League this year – Steve McClaren was a pundit, before kick-off he was asked about young Wellbeck.

He stated that he wouldn’t expect DW to be delivering on the final ball at this stage of his development, that would come, there are other aspects of his game he should be concentrating on.

I thought this was very interesting from a Coach of his experience, we seem to expect the likes of James Forrest to deliver the full gambit.

We need to seriously re-think our youth development the Club has put a lot of resources into this strategy.

    Hail! Hail!

Day at the beach with wife and grandson. Shower, dinner, gemme. What’s not to like. Only thing worrying me is that there is no chat on blog re a game tonight but Barnett door is advertising Creuther v Celtic. Hope there isn’t a mistook.

  3. Less then 2 hours to kick off. Hope its not as hot there as in Costa Clonmel. Cider in fridge, chores done getting into the mood. I want to see a real game tonight with less experimenting and a team that is going out to win. I’d still like to see Henderson start though and see how he looks when sorrounded by first team regulars.

I’m with you on the memory front. I was the only person from my area (Busby) who went to Holy Cross as, at that time, our part of the village was in Lanarkshire. If I had lived on the Renfrewshire (as was) side of the River Cart I would probably have gone to Holyrood, which was a darn sight nearer: 5 miles compared to 15. I have met one guy from school though – at Celtic Park as it happens – through FB, although, as a rule, I don’t “do” FB which is a mystery to me, as is Twitter. My daughter and son, respectively, set up the accounts but they are pretty much dormant except for I keep getting alerts, or whatever they are called – even from my daughter sitting next to me on the Arbroath Emerald bus to Parkhead!! Our locale is not too bad for a boy from Busby, a touch better than the scheme I grew up in. I’ve always meant to ask, and now is as good a time as any, but what is the Gazebo?

The ole Gazebo is like the Tardis, much , much bigger on the inside.

  6. Just have to tell yez this to illustrate the hardboiled mindset of those cretins from Mordor.

So here I am, back in hospital down here in deepest Dorset, and there’s this harpy working on the ward with a really annoying nasal Glaswegian-ish accent. So…stupid me pipes up with : What part of Scotland you from?

A wee village near Glasgow called Larkhall, says she, with a dark glint of malice in her tone.

    I exaggerate not a jot.

Oh aye? Says me, immediately falling into the trap.

Her immediate riposte : What team do you support?

No the one you obviously do sez me. It was all I could think of, me in dire straits in bed in a cancer ward at the verbal mercy of a harridan fae Larkhall……she had a broom, too. No joke.

Aye, but what team dae YOU SUPPORT says she, her ire coming to the boil.

I could’ve claimed support of anyone to extricate masel from a nasty encounter. No me. Oh no. I’m havin’ none ae it. Or her seething, random dislike of a potential Celt with cancer in a bed at her mercy. No way is she getting away with it.

I pull out my ace : Celtic F.C. ya bitch, and manage to summon a gusher of projectile vomit all over her skirt, legs and shoes.

She went up In a puff of foul smoke….well, no really, but I’ve no seen her again.

Best day I’ve had in months.

    Awrra best.

  11. No idea what has happened with JM…

But I have heard news on the grapevine that some of the coaching staff at Lennoxtown described Balde as rotten. Not seen any of him myself but a bit worried about this one.

There always seems to have been a description of “raw” used with him but if we paid £2m-odd like reported then he seems a bit too raw for that type of money. Hopefully we don’t have another Bangura on our hands.

  21. miki67 I am shocked and saddened that things have deteriorated to that extent. I have a close pal here in Clonmel who happens to be called Billy even though he is nae a Billy. His diagnosis is also very poor but he is nae giving up, he is intent on living every day and getting something out of every day. If its as bad as what you say it seems futile to say I hope you make a miracle recovery. I do hope that of course but I also hope that God gives you the strength of mind to cope, not sure if you are religous or not, I am and I do believe in a loving God. I will pray for you and pray that God will be kind to a courageous Celt.

  22. Kojo,
