McLeish frank admission, Aberdeen get it right. Will we?

1909

BBC’s series, Scotland’s Game, has become compulsive viewing. Tales of redemption for Celtic, Hearts and others, and tales of woe for some. Last night’s episode had a few remarkably frank admissions.

One which caught the eye was former-Rangers former-manager, Alex McLeish, who admitted his title winning team “would’ve been behind [Celtic]” had they not funded their squad through EBTs. We should all take note for when the Big Tax Case reaches the Supreme Court.

Pleased to see the appropriate amount of damage done to Rangers by majority owner and chairman, David Murray, was correctly attributed, with one or two character defects throw in for good measure by contributing journalist, Tom English.

Aberdeen have nailed their proverbial flag to the mast this week with the word, “No previous meeting found” on their fixture list comment on a forthcoming game against Newco. It’s a simple comment, it’s accurate, has been confirmed in writing by Uefa and will position the club shoulder-to-shoulder with their fans.

Get it right, Celtic.

    I agree.

The Aberdeen fans know the score, as we do.

However, the sleazy businessmen in football, have no morals, and would sell their own grannies for a buck.

The Aberdeen fans will find out the hard way.

We are used to our PLC selling their own a**** for money.

Truly astounded. I’m trying to imagine we three, me and my boys, going each home game but one of us has to step aside on two occasions because of the name of one opposing club.

Now it has to be said that the discount provided by the club was appreciated but it still doesn’t explain the need to invalidate the ticket for two (potentially) matches.

  3. My son,who is 13,is looking forward to next week’s game.He didn’t get to a game against the huns old entity. He is excited at the prospect and can’t wait to watch us “thrashing them.”

He,like me,is aware they are not the original rANGERs and that this is a new club we’re playing but,as he says,”They’re still huns.”So it’s his first huns game but against a different club from the one I watched back in the day.

As for over a century under their old guise the new hun team lie, cheat and emit malevolence. They always have and they always will.

I support Celtic and, thankfully,my son has decided to do the same.Playing the new lying, cheating huns is no different in my son’s eyes to playing old huns who did the same. And i’m with him on that

We’d be at the game whoever the opposition, and nothing will stop me enjoying another day in Paradise with my son, old, new or no huns included.

Concessions not uptaken by the those who are not obliged to purchase those tickets will be sold for £50 or £49 plus tickemaster overcharges. that is the whole point in over pricing the concessionary tickets. So that those who hold them believe they are being asked too much and the old Firmist with a want only to see their Rangers can come out and pretend to cheer on Celtic.

  5. *said £110 ticket included huns games.

In fact, should I still call them huns? I called the old club that name.

I guess that means I’m buying the big lie annaw.

  6. Green Man, Jobo, MWB I can understand where you are coming from; I had an internal debate with myself many months ago before I renewed my season ticket; my thoughts were put into this piece a few days ago.

Since then, some cracks have appeared in the lies and the myth in BBC’s programme last night; as Paul’s article states today, Aberdeen have led the way from a club perspective. This is the first time since 2012 and the paper headlines about a deid club that any of the SMSM media have admitted publicly that the deid club were liquidated and it’s now a new club. Not much, but some progress.

To me, it’s about supporting the team. They are not going to stop me doing that; neither are the board.

As I said previously, if as a support we feel strongly enough to challenge the PLC Board about their stance (after what we see that stance is on the 10th), then we should do so but not to the detriment of supporting the team.

I respect everyone’s decision on attendance or non-attendance, this is just my opinion.

While I’m of the opinion that ppl are free to spend their money however they want, I think it’s also true that they wouldn’t spend £50 to watch any other team. On that basis any arguments suggesting that it’s ‘Old Firm-ism’ also carry some weight.

That also said there’s an element of ‘they’re a new team but the supporters are the same and I’ll happily pay top dollar to see them crying’ that’s understandable too.

£50 is too much for a football ticket.

  14. I made my stance in 2012 when Sevco joined the bottom division, – when they were allowed into Celtic Park I wouldn’t be there.

I’ve missed games on the season ticket through choice, but never on a principal, not bad going since I first bought it in Bath St, season 81/82 handed to me personally by Desmond White after I penned him a letter about, “having to pay individually for home games every other week”.

The Celtic perspective on the big lie shouldn’t be a secret.

  15. Get it right — will we ?

Seriously 4 years of absolute silence apart from slabbering on about missing £10M.

It took Turnbull Hutton to speak up. Lawwell as usual in the shadows — apart from the Rory Bremner jibe — which in a way was more a laugh at the Celtic fans.

Lawwell does not give a **** about the fans ; fir park bans, kettling, OBAF, statements about attacks on Lenny–the list is endless. His God is his bank account.

Celtic/ Lawwell have decided the Old Firm is back and are delighted to welcome Rangers FC to Celtic Park.

We will listen to the usual bile next Saturday and Celtic will pretend it never happened. Money comes first.

  18. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

The mass of the Celtic support have already endorsed the Big lie, by attending two previous encounters and queuing up for the next one.

Having already endorsed the SFA by attending Cup ties at Hampden, the die was cast.

Any halting that was done to the Journey was done by fans of other clubs. Once again, it is another club, Aberdeen who are showing the way.

Dress it up any way you like, but rolling up to Celtic Park is a Welcome Back gesture.

  25. I was chatting to a supporter of The Rangers Football Club the other night over a beer.

He was expressing dissatisfaction at some of the song stuff coming from Ibrox saying it made him uncomfortable.

I told him my story of my last visit to Ibrox in 1964/5/66 when the songs of hate from both sides turned me off attending either Ibrox or Celtic Park.

It wasn’t who I want to be.

As I said to him, going to those games or watching them brings out the worst in me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love to beat them just to silence the nonsense meaning they and the media give to any victory in terms of ascendancy. It’s a fool who puts his own sense of value in the hands of 11 footballers.

This Cherokee story probably covers it best:

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
