McLeish frank admission, Aberdeen get it right. Will we?

1909

BBC’s series, Scotland’s Game, has become compulsive viewing. Tales of redemption for Celtic, Hearts and others, and tales of woe for some. Last night’s episode had a few remarkably frank admissions.

One which caught the eye was former-Rangers former-manager, Alex McLeish, who admitted his title winning team “would’ve been behind [Celtic]” had they not funded their squad through EBTs. We should all take note for when the Big Tax Case reaches the Supreme Court.

Pleased to see the appropriate amount of damage done to Rangers by majority owner and chairman, David Murray, was correctly attributed, with one or two character defects throw in for good measure by contributing journalist, Tom English.

Aberdeen have nailed their proverbial flag to the mast this week with the word, “No previous meeting found” on their fixture list comment on a forthcoming game against Newco. It’s a simple comment, it’s accurate, has been confirmed in writing by Uefa and will position the club shoulder-to-shoulder with their fans.

Get it right, Celtic.

  1. Bada,

Yup indeed. It’s a free country. Go if you want. Stay away if you want. Just don’t bang on about it.

I must admit, your algarve post made me laugh more than the Celtic Bible tweet. Sorry ;))

It was all in your delivery.

I must admit. Going to those games never really bothered me until after March 2011. For a year I attended with hatred running through my veins. I turned into a vile foul mouthed non Celtic supporter Rangers hater (not like the Rangers hater they term us today). Thankfully a wee woman at the Suffering Genitals hospital helped me overcome that period of hating probably helped by the fact that they died. :-)

Now they are an irrelevance, for two reasons.

    They are deed.

This is not them, no matter how much Peter wants them to be.

If I go I will go to support Celtic just like I do against ‘Same old Alloa always cheating’ or Morton or another team at that level.

It was good to read that. I don’t post often. I have followed CQN for a good few years and used to post more frequently. One early attraction was the fact that posts were well-written, that rules concerning the use of bad language were applied, that intelligent and respectful – if at times blunt – discussions took place. It’s always been easy to argue for the superiority of the Celtic supporter in terms of sharpness of wit and heightened vocabulary and point to CQN to prove your point. That hasn’t been so of late. The rancour and the slovenly reaching for cheap shots using “street” language is letting the side down.

I have wanted to lodge a protest but took the easy way out and stopped reading as much. The blog has changed. I do miss the repartee and you’ve made me recall a few highlights such as Pablophanque’s lengthy litany about Vmhan. Here’s some of it:

Vmhan can sneeze with his eyes open

Google no longer runs searches on Vmhan. You don’t find Vmhan, Vmhan finds you !

Vmhan didn’t wet his bed as a child. The bed wet itself out of fear.

Vmhan doesn’t step away from the vehicle. The vehicle steps away from Vmhan.

Vmhan isn’t afraid of the dark. The dark is afraid of Vmhan.

Vmhan has counted to infinity …………… twice.

Vmhan doesn’t wear a watch. HE decides what time it is.

Sannabhoy, I am and I am and I am and I am, hey email added, will be in touch, thank you. patmcgrath, I went to mass today for the first time in a long time, me the wife and all the kids, it felt magical, it really did, looking forward to reading your posts, thank you. vinny_bhoy, your a star and you dont even know it, thank you. If I missed anyone, my humblest apologies, I hope you know I didnt mean to.

I’m sure all isn’t lost. It’s still a superior blog and its members still express the idealism, genuine concern and commitment to action that Celtic supporters are noted for. We have a good season ahead of us. Let’s enjoy it.

  5. Well done to aberdeen . Wish to god other clubs INCLUDING OUR OWN had the guts to unit against the big lie .. if so .it would be over .they would be gone

  6. I realy loved that ` Same old Alloa ` clip. Brilliant.

On another matter. Are we not making too much of the Brave Board of Aberdeen ? My reading of it is that it really is to do with their computer and not a statement of their belief. If they have said they won`t be apologising for it, though, that does gain them some kudos.

    What an absolute Blunt.

Although if you read JB’s twitter account I should say, what an absolute Jeremy Hunt…

Now if you raising the topic of James Morrison is just a prelude to talking about Nelly Furtado then please do proceed…

I’ve also gave away my season ticket for the game. Not buying into it but I respect others right to choose whether they go or not.

Personally, I renewed my book this season after a 2 year absence but wasn’t for anyone thinking it was because a team pretending to be “Rangers” was “back”. I’ll support the team from wherever I watch it but won’t dignify thems and our board with my attendance

  10. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

What kind of people, would uphold a ridiculous lie, regardless of what supporters and UEFA say?

You would have to some kind of mad Hun bigot, or somebody with no moral compass whatsoever.

There is no defence for sheer outright deliberate lies.

If anybody you knew blatantly lied to you like that, you would F*** them off in no uncertain terms.

So why are the PLC getting away with it?

Yeah, thats the way to expose lying…..by ignoring it?

    Do me a favour.

    Never fear the truth.

Im out of here before i get red carded.

  11. Personally I think we are giving Aberdeen far too much credit here. Let’s wait and see how they portray the Hun game once they update their records.

Can we also assume that any Aberdeen fans actually attending the game are buying into the big lie.

The same James Blunt that saved us from World War 3? ………What a twat……..

Kudos to McLeish for his comments last night, very dignified.

When are the Beeb Scotland going to do the Manchester Crimewatch special, or are they going to gloss over that too?

  13. GREENPINATA

I agree with you there. My experience of Aberdeen fans is that they’ll try to get under everyone else’s skin and annoy them in some attempt to seem relevant.

I really don’t think a stand was being made.

Sevco have just released a statement.

Well it’s more a request to the cleaners.

‘Has any member of the House Keeping seen the Scottish Power Card in the course of your duties this week’?

‘It is very important you contact the Club administrators (Not Duffy * Phelps) with any helpful advice pertaining to our request ASAP as we really need to put a fiver in the electric meter before Monday otherwise it’s lights out.

    Greenpinata,

You mean you haven’t visited their website??

You’ll not have seen them using the upcoming hun game as incentive to buy a season book then.

To be blunt, my brain synapses snapped answering Awe Naw’s quiz question correctly, but I don’t regret the confusion, as it reminded me of the first time I heard ‘Wisemen’ on the car radio, with their semis by the sea, and nearly crashed.

So you, sharp as ever, have missed nothing!

Here’s the sting.. Family up from England for a Graduation ceremony that weekend and lookin for 1 or 2 Tickets for the match.. Are there any out there?? Any other game, tickets would have been available to purchase at the Ticket Office, unfortunate its this weekend.

I think there are thousands of Celtic fans during international break week, reflecting on the spectre of next weeks fixture, against whoever they are.

    from the

“You’ll no stoap me fae goin to see Celtic Brigade”

    to

“fans that don’t know whether they are coming or going”

Celtic cannot remain neutral, over the conduct of another club no matter how hard they have tried. We might not change the big lie but we mustn’t contribute to it,

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

    And all that CSC

But they’ve promised him one of those musical cards for his birthday this year, so the big guy’s cool with it.

  22. It’s a new low for CQN when a person logs on pretending to be another poster. IMO, it’s a sleekit scummy and not very clever thing to do.

  23. Beatbhoy,

    Easy mistake to make.

Although some music aficionados might take offence at a James morrison faux pas and try and show you The Doors.

  25. You can’t blame Aberdeen for any computer glitch, as Sevco rose so quickly and seamlessly through the lower tiers over the last 4 years.

They’ve only known since last December that they’d have a Sevco fixture in 2016, so that’s just not enough time to get things sorted out on their computer system.

    Is it?
