Media fast and loose with Neil Lennon comments

906

The annual raft of idle speculation unsettling Celtic’s playing and managerial resources is well underway.  One newspaper headline today proclaimed, “Celtic boss wants Canaries to approach him”, based on Neil Lennon when talking about moving to England saying, “There has been no offer, there has been no concrete phone call or anything like that, so I haven’t really had a decision to make on it”.  Countless others have followed in a similar theme.

Neil Lennon has not really hidden the fact that he would like to manage in the FA Premier League one day, but none of the journos with pages to fill have any notion on his thoughts of dropping a division in England.  In the real world, Neil is showing no reticence in pursuing team development plans for next season.  We’ll be involved in Champions League football two months from tomorrow, the manager is busy on the matters in hand.

Best wishes to John Brown for his inspired attempts to take down Newco Rangers.  More power to you, John, I hope you have any many lemmings lined up as possible.  Some months ago the plotters had a notion that they would starve Newco shareholders into handing over the club for zilch, or £1 less than Rangers were sold to a liquidation expert for.  It remains possible that Sevco will starve, but notions that there will be an outcome for the plotters which is more desirable than an existence under the current crew are fading by the day.

Don’t forget, we’ve Tommy Gemmell, live on the blog, on Friday between 13:00 and 16:00.  He’ll be here to chat and answer your questions.

Issue 20 of CQN Magazine, CQLisboN, is out and enjoying great reviews. Click here to read for FREE.

  1. i think Lennon is being smart with his vocabulary re: the Norwich job. He is currently in negotiations with Peter Lawell on budget for players – he has a stronger position if there is doubt about his position. “I’ll stay if i get the players i need to compete in champs league”

He wants to stay at celtic but knows his stock can only rise if he can compete in Europe.

  4. Great to meet a few more CQNers on Saturday. Unfortunately I had to leave early but made up for it on Trophy Sunday – fell asleep on the last train, woke up in Ayr and had to phone a taxi to get home. Those early kick-offs can leave too much time drinking time!

I noticed a picture of Fat Salary during a question on Pointless on BBC1 tonight – before the watershed and while people are eating their dinner.

The question was about footballers that had appeared in films, who is the footballer and what was the film. Didn’t actually see the answer for FS but my guess the film role was Mr.Creosote in Monty Python’s “Meaning of Life”.

  5. Watched the “Downfall” documentary on ESPN about the death of Rangers. The narrator started off by explaining that “Glasgow Rangers had disappeared”. Later, he described liquidation following on from administration and how “a new club was born”.

Most ridiculous part was when a hard-nosed bitch in charge of the Ibrox museum, on showing a few fans around said “Rangers won 9 league trophies in a row which is a world record and has never been done by any other club.”

    Whit?

Finally, there was a lot of footage inside and around Ibrox. My God the place is a dump and is falling apart. You can see there has been no maintenance for some time. It is worn, tacky and dirty. An absolute disgrace.

Hope he stays and it’s the usual nonsense but wouldn’t blame Neil if he left.

Funnily enough, huns in work today were ecstatic the thought of him leaving…just like I’m ecstatic knowing they can’t afford to get shot off Sally :)

Except when it comes to Euro selections, tactics ,and Cup Games.

If he is as keen to stay as you think all talk should be firmly rebuked, but no,he is allowing this Norwich nonsense to persist,I would see the sense if it were a top 4 team.

Contrary to your logic I would see the talk of going being dis-ruptive to the players and the necessary preparation.

Last years Euro prep was disrupted as he hung about arguing about Hooper WHO WALKED,this year NL should attend to the people who pay his wages.

As his favourite Gary Hooper has since found out he was a big name because of where he was, NOT who he was, same for you too Neil.

    Neil Lennon will leave Celtic.

However, as I reasoned last night, it will be the end of next season, at the earliest.

An assistant will be brought in for next season, with a view to a seamless transition when Neil leaves.

I would further suggest that the timing of Mjallby’s leaving supports this scenario.

If and when he goes, he will go with my blessing. Big deal, I hear you say.

He has given us all he has, at a considerable price to himself.

However, as a successful Celtic is attractive to potential player signings, so to will it be for ambitious, modern managers, who want to test themselves in Europe.

The club are developing the environs of the stadium, with the future in mind.

All the redevelopment will mean nothing without an equal emphasis on the football side.

We are in the process of doing that and it is not too far from fruition.

In my view NL should come out and clearly state he has no interest in moving as he is preparing for the CL next Season.

He is,for whatever reason, keeping his options open.

  23. Again reading all the contributions on this very good and informative site, leads me to think that the newspapers know nothing about what our manager is thinking, again as Paul alluded to to, it’s coming in to quiet season and any attempt to unsettle our club will be seized upon.

I’m not a frequent poster on the site, regular reader, but I will offer this opinion as I did the other night, I do think that Neil does want to manage in the Premiership one day, and I for one will wish him well, he’s put up with a hell of a lot just for playing and managing Celtic, and when that day comes, I hope our board have wee Jackie Mac in mind, I think he could do a great job, with the infrastructure we have at our club.

Anyway would like to say I enjoy reading the opinions of many on this site such as , BRTH, Hamiltontim, Blantyretim, Bada Bing, Twists and Turns, there’s many more I could mention, but all of you make good points.

Possibly and who could blame him?

    ===============================

In a work context I would do similar, when it comes to Celtic I guess I’m looking for guys with a vocational zeal, perhaps the wrong profession.

    Ta for reply.

  28. Neil Lennon getting it in the neck from anxiety-driven petulant supporters.

Why? Do you make snap judgements about your own employment or choose to announce your ongoing thought-making process to strangers who invest an interest for all of – ohh – ten minutes of their leisure time?

IF there’s anything for him to make his mind up about, I expect he is not taking time just to irritate the unstable among us; the first priority will be his family then the business side of such a move.

    That’s probably a big IF.

Like many, many thousands of Celts I long for Lenny to stand his ground and lead us to TEN in a row.

The sight of him raising that TENTH title trophy would be the greatest GIRFUY to the institutionalised bigots of this country in its bitter history, and a triumph for the man who has suffered most from its self-loathing aggression in the modern era.

He’s still a young manager. Ten in a row, then he can take his time to plot his own future down south, or wherever that might be.

And on the Gary Hooper subject – Gary Hooper does NOT want to play for Celtic.

He made that perfectly clear last year. Gary wants England, the premiership, etc.

Any move to bring him back would be a slap in the face for us. To him, getting back up here would just be another stint in the shop window.

Celtic should not be second choice to anyone.

Let go those who see themselves further afield, keep Lenny, retain Samaras, get another quality spine in the team, move onwards and upwards.

  29. McClair No 1

Your eyes will be out for some time if you are looking for words of wisdom from me!
