Media fast and loose with Neil Lennon comments

906

The annual raft of idle speculation unsettling Celtic’s playing and managerial resources is well underway.  One newspaper headline today proclaimed, “Celtic boss wants Canaries to approach him”, based on Neil Lennon when talking about moving to England saying, “There has been no offer, there has been no concrete phone call or anything like that, so I haven’t really had a decision to make on it”.  Countless others have followed in a similar theme.

Neil Lennon has not really hidden the fact that he would like to manage in the FA Premier League one day, but none of the journos with pages to fill have any notion on his thoughts of dropping a division in England.  In the real world, Neil is showing no reticence in pursuing team development plans for next season.  We’ll be involved in Champions League football two months from tomorrow, the manager is busy on the matters in hand.

Best wishes to John Brown for his inspired attempts to take down Newco Rangers.  More power to you, John, I hope you have any many lemmings lined up as possible.  Some months ago the plotters had a notion that they would starve Newco shareholders into handing over the club for zilch, or £1 less than Rangers were sold to a liquidation expert for.  It remains possible that Sevco will starve, but notions that there will be an outcome for the plotters which is more desirable than an existence under the current crew are fading by the day.

Don’t forget, we’ve Tommy Gemmell, live on the blog, on Friday between 13:00 and 16:00.  He’ll be here to chat and answer your questions.

Issue 20 of CQN Magazine, CQLisboN, is out and enjoying great reviews. Click here to read for FREE.

  1. Like someone else said, try the bottom link. The top one is full screen, and some people have trouble with that. But it’s okay, *I* have trouble — of the watery eyes kind — watching it myself, which I was not expecting when I started working on it … :-)

  2. On a lighter not. A big shout out to wee jinx if you are lurking. He managed, against every odd imaginable, to get me a ticket for glastonbury today. Amazing. That’s one I owe you dude.

Commentator said same stadium Gascoigne blubbed at in Italia 90, it’s a new stadium,is it not?

  4. A director at CP once told me that Brian’s biggest problem was he wanted to be Paul McStay i.e. midfielder and not striker. I also believe that he didn’t finish his degree deciding to concentrate on fitba and would go back to it later. Mibbees he did.

He would make an interesting Assistant Manager.

I’m doing grand and thanks for your interest.

Not as spry as I was 10 years ago at the board’s inception.

    Older and no wiser.

I do miss the old night shifts and the inspired story telling of Estadio.

I won’t hold that game against him, because I’m sure him and Mogga, where just doing what was best for their own club at the time.

*mibbees Mogga but no murray, he was going tae the deid team the following season on a Bossie so it would be on his best personal interest tae no try a leg.

  7. Was just thinking there, 3 European finals and never beaten over 90 minutes….

Unfortunately in the modern game no player shows any loyalty, it’s all about the money money money. So when someone such as Sammi comes along and commits to a club not for the money then his status is elevated beyond that of others wh have done so much more.

I’ll always remember Sammi with fondness, I’ll also never forget the New Year game or his goal in Moscow but there are others who won’t get similar recognition even though their individual comtribution was greater.

That’s just life in the modern age.

I think Lenny is in a very comfortable place. CL to plan for, where, if he can steer us through ( and he will assuming his squad isn’t unnecessarily depleted, and reasonable luck in the draw, and is guaranteed a 4 th title on the bounce.

That’s assuming he stays. Like you, I think he has one more season in him at CP.

However, should a West Ham, Newcastle or the like make an offer, he can weigh up the pros and cons and make a decision he is comfortable with.

The pros? EPL, mega bucks wages and perhaps the opportunity to shop in the high street stores as opposed to the bargain basements. The biggest pro? Being able to live his life outside football with his loved ones, in relative peace.

The cons? Leaving Celtic, the support and almost certainly saying goodbye to European football.

He won’t be having sleepless nights.

  10. Sheik – was genuinely surprised myself that I’d never thought of that before

  13. Favourite sammi moment?

When he pretended to throw the ball into wee barry bawbags face in an ‘old firm’ game at ibrox a few years back

    B-)

  14. If McClair was such a good shout for assistant manager, why has he never had the chance at Old Trafford? Hasn’t he been in charge of their youths for yonks?

As a player, imo, he wasn’t in the same class as either MacAvennie or Johnstone and, in midfield, couldn’t lace Paul McStay’s boots.

I’m sure our manager will find a fine replacement for Johan.

  15. Actually, with what Lenny endured in his early managerial career, at the hands of both the bigots and the law, he has earned some peace for his family.

Can’t think what his son would endure as he grew older should he choose to stay in Scotland.

Lenny is as brave as a lion, and would be a match for most I feel, but when his family life is upset and his loved ones are are at risk, he has every right to keep them safe and go about his work knowing they are safe.

    Favourite Sammi moment

His double at Ibrox at New Year.

Closely followed by his winner in Moscow.

  17. Bhoylo83: Crud, I forgot about that! I did like it went he kept pointing out the score to a s***e talking Bougherra (I believe it was). Favorite goal was the one where when it hit the cross bar it sounded like a rifle shot. I thought he’d broke it!

I wouldn’t hold the fact that Brian has never been assistant manager at Man Utd against him, maybe he was happy working with the youths not sure.

I do agree I think Johnston was a better finisher, better striker, but all round McClair was a great player and 99 goals in 4 seasons not to bad

    Good chatting

    Peace be with you

  19. My friends in Celtic,

I would assume that everybody currently on here knows my ambitions for Celtic lies in a more competitive league.

However more competitive does not necessarily mean the best.

As such I am really looking forward to the Barcelona v Atletico Madrid decider on Sunday.

I hope Atletico achieve at least the draw they require. Unbelievable did I really say that. ? A few years ago this view would have been unthinkable.

Time for some things is indeed a healer.

  20. As a Celtic supporter

Hope wee miller will come good

By the way think we’re doing well that way
