Media fast and loose with Neil Lennon comments

906

The annual raft of idle speculation unsettling Celtic’s playing and managerial resources is well underway.  One newspaper headline today proclaimed, “Celtic boss wants Canaries to approach him”, based on Neil Lennon when talking about moving to England saying, “There has been no offer, there has been no concrete phone call or anything like that, so I haven’t really had a decision to make on it”.  Countless others have followed in a similar theme.

Neil Lennon has not really hidden the fact that he would like to manage in the FA Premier League one day, but none of the journos with pages to fill have any notion on his thoughts of dropping a division in England.  In the real world, Neil is showing no reticence in pursuing team development plans for next season.  We’ll be involved in Champions League football two months from tomorrow, the manager is busy on the matters in hand.

Best wishes to John Brown for his inspired attempts to take down Newco Rangers.  More power to you, John, I hope you have any many lemmings lined up as possible.  Some months ago the plotters had a notion that they would starve Newco shareholders into handing over the club for zilch, or £1 less than Rangers were sold to a liquidation expert for.  It remains possible that Sevco will starve, but notions that there will be an outcome for the plotters which is more desirable than an existence under the current crew are fading by the day.

Don’t forget, we’ve Tommy Gemmell, live on the blog, on Friday between 13:00 and 16:00.  He’ll be here to chat and answer your questions.

Issue 20 of CQN Magazine, CQLisboN, is out and enjoying great reviews. Click here to read for FREE.

Nothing confirmed on Danny. Looks like a horrible rumour I’m afraid. Good news if Danny is ok though.

By the way my old man is forever saying we are still missing a Murdo McLeod type player in that midfield. A strong midfielder who scores from the edge of the box. He reckons Stan was as close as we ever got but still hopes Broony can add more goals to his game. Your moniker reminded me of my auld man’s constant gripes about Murdo from 1987 – present. I still bring it up at games we go to together.

kev -it’s a rumour; by now you should have realised that 50% of info on the net is made up, and the rest is rumour, half truth and swivel eyed lunacy.

“Not trying to be difficult, but I don`t see how.

Unless it was combined with another overtly racist word.

Intent is the key.Insult was the intent but I don`t see how the racist aspect is valid.”

This is how confusion starts. I was not responding specifically to the Leigh Griffiths situation but in general. It is possible to add a word or attitude to display racist intent whilst using the word refugee. That is all I said and all I meant.

As for Leigh, I think the worst that they will be able to make stick is a charge of discriminatory chanting or some such rubbish, for the pub incident.

However, many people are aware of a previous response by Leigh Griffiths, whilst a Hibee, that gives cause for concern that such discriminatory attitudes might be there. Maybe he is just hot headed and callous. I don’t know enough about him to confirm any judgement as to whether he still possesses these attitudes. That is why I think it is ok for the Celtic Support to provide a general, but pointed, reminder, via the Willie Maley quote, that we try to uphold decent values at our club. They did not hold a banner up calling for him to be sacked. I am sure society would be better served by a reformed Leigh Griffiths than a sacked and embittered martyr.

And the bhoy enjoys my full support as a player, as did Di Canio.

Our friends in Espanya will be looking forward to their football early evening on Saturday, eh?

Early goal from Barca, and it should be some contest.

Barca should be the less nervous side. They probably can’t believe they got another chance, and should play accordingly.

Most managers are not in Lenny’s position, most managers clubs are running at a loss, we are not.

That obviously counts for nada in PL’s mind.

He takes in squillions by getting to the CL 2 seasons in a row, and is given feck all back in the grand scheme of things, in fact, they even take away his best players.

I would get miffed at that, so would most folks, and with all the personal crap he has had to endure…….

    What a man.

I have read some amount of pish saying Lenny isn’t the caliber of most managers in the EPL, absolute bollix, most of them couldn’t do half of what he has done, and at the fist sign of the personal crap Lenny has had to suffer, they would have ran away as fast as their legs could take them.

Take the likes of fat Sam, a serial loser, yet I would wager he has a few mill tucked away , there are countless like him, to compare Lenny to them, to suggest Lenny ain’t as good as them, dearie me, the NHS sure is running out of meds.

Have they settled on a kick off time for Barca v Athletico yet?

  27. Coolmore Mafia on

Norwich receive £65.5M from EPL for relegation campaign. Or about 6 years worth of CL and SPFL payouts for Celtic.

Hull receive £67M. In 5 years, even if celtic win the league and qualify for champions League every year, Hull will have received about £275 million more than us. What chance do we have of ever getting back to the top of world football.
