The annual raft of idle speculation unsettling Celtic’s playing and managerial resources is well underway. One newspaper headline today proclaimed, “Celtic boss wants Canaries to approach him”, based on Neil Lennon when talking about moving to England saying, “There has been no offer, there has been no concrete phone call or anything like that, so I haven’t really had a decision to make on it”. Countless others have followed in a similar theme.
Neil Lennon has not really hidden the fact that he would like to manage in the FA Premier League one day, but none of the journos with pages to fill have any notion on his thoughts of dropping a division in England. In the real world, Neil is showing no reticence in pursuing team development plans for next season. We’ll be involved in Champions League football two months from tomorrow, the manager is busy on the matters in hand.
Best wishes to John Brown for his inspired attempts to take down Newco Rangers. More power to you, John, I hope you have any many lemmings lined up as possible. Some months ago the plotters had a notion that they would starve Newco shareholders into handing over the club for zilch, or £1 less than Rangers were sold to a liquidation expert for. It remains possible that Sevco will starve, but notions that there will be an outcome for the plotters which is more desirable than an existence under the current crew are fading by the day.
Don’t forget, we’ve Tommy Gemmell, live on the blog, on Friday between 13:00 and 16:00. He’ll be here to chat and answer your questions.

That is a stunning response to BILLY BHOY 05. It addresses one or two(!)issues which I have discussed with him personally.
His views on independence are passionate and heartfelt. On that I have no problem. Passion,emotion,because-I-can are not reasons to vote for anything,IMO.
He and I are diametrically opposed on this, and it’s a huge issue. It deserves debate, and you are doing so better than most-caveat,not patronising you by saying that-but…
BILLY BHOY 05 invited Campbell Martin at my request. I remain very grateful for that. It was a genuine pleasure to meet him.
He spoke exceptionally well, explained his reasoning behind an impassioned belief without resorting to impassioned rhetoric.
It was time very well spent, and I am grateful to them both.
Two guys were out fishing when one stops to have a smoke. He asks his companion if he has a lighter. “Yes I do” he replies and hands the other a 10 inch long BIC lighter.
Surprised the guy asks “Where did you get this?” His pal replies “I have a personal genie.” The first man asks “Can I make a wish? ”
Sure says the other “Just make sure that you speak clearly cause he is a little bit deaf”.
“Ok I will” says the other as he rubs the lamp a genie appears and asks the man what he wants. The man says ” I want a Million Bucks ”
The genie says ok and goes back to his bottle and 10 seconds later a million ducks fly over their heads.
The guy says to the other ” Your genie really is deaf isn’t he?”
“Aye he is indeed, do you really think I asked for a 10 inch BIC”

I’ve read your post and whilst I can see the relevance/validity of some of the points there are other I disagree with. However because of their volume I will go through them and get back to you tomorrow morning.
A quick point or two. I reacted against Ernie because of the personal insults which had nothing to do with politics.
I asked you if you thought issuing personal insults was acceptable.
Re: anglophobia. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have worked all over England for quite a number of years and with the English in foreign parts too.
I have many English friends and have a great deal of respect for the people as they are invariably pleasant and they usually are very decent to us Scots.
Although I do envy them, particularly
those in in the south east of the country, as they are a proud and confident people. This confidence I feel we lack at times.
Till tomorrow….KTF

Well at least when Gary Hooper went to Norwich they were in the EPL, Neil would be joining a club just about to descend into one of the most competitive leagues in Europe. And one of the most sack-happy, though the EPL made a fair effort to match it this season. Would be a hell of a challenge, let us put it that way. That said Neil does seem to be finding a niche with the Southern based media, including Radio 5, the BBC and Sky Sports, and he is doing that from Glasgow not Radio Norwich.
A raft of idle speculation is probably what Robinson Crusoe used to dream about at night.

You’re right! Why try to make peace between the Yes/No battlers when we can have real and meaningful debates about who Annabell really loves and toasted/roasted cheese.

Hooper was top scorer for Norwich, not sure why anyone would consider that as failure. They were relegated, and usually teams that go down have weaknesses all over the park.
I know nothing about Finbogasson other than he appears to have been available for at least two years and no one has bothered signing him.
Not sure it will happen, but I’d be delighted to see Hooper back at Celtic. He’s a natural goalscorer, even in teams that struggle to create chances.

I found this interesting on the scoring rates of the Top 5 leagues:-
Soccer stats on the big 5 leagues
I remember reading somewhere that the Dutch Eredivisie had the highest goals rate per game, a factor we should take into account when marveling at Finbogasson’s goal tally.
Does not really hold up though, does it.In the past few years we have had Luis Suarez and Wilfrid Bony, being top scorers in Holland. One is now world class, the other hailed as one of the best in the EPL.Are you implying that Dutch defenders are not too good?.
Maybe the fact the Dutch league has a more attacking mentality, less 9 men behind the ball.Who knows.
What I do know, and most football pundits agree,is,strikers are born, not made.Take a top striker ,put him in an attacking team,he will score goals.Of course maybe you have an agenda against Finbogasson.Think we heard a bit of it last window.

I think Richard out of Richard and Judy comes over as a proper half-wit in that video. Yon Hopkins burd and McKenzie’s utterings were to be expected.
I would vote yes whatever but after listening to a disscussion with Max Kieser and a finiacial wizard it seems that Scotland would quickly become one of the worlds richest countries.
Scotland has all the criteria to make this happen . Were the right size of population and all the inferstrucure in place ,we got the oil (for the time being )we got the financial knowledge . We can follow the Norway -Iceland style blueprint . Norway has a £1000000 for each person while in UK at present each person is £50,000 in debt if the national debt was shared.
They were saying we’d be crazy to let this opportunity pass by.
I’m voting yes anyway but if I can become a millionaire as well .

The SSM will not be paying the thick end of £6m for Finnbogasson when he could have bought him 2 years ago from Helsingborg for £500k
End of.

I don’t know the reason for the higher scoring rate in Holland but for every Suarez and Bony you point to, I can cite an Alves, Emnes and Higdon (a Crewe Alex reject who scores more there than he did in England’s 3rd tier).
My opinion is no more an “agenda” than yours is. I just know that Jordan Rhodes scores a lot too but there are no big clubs knocking there either. Some strikers play in a Larsson/Suarez style, others like Alan McInally and Mark Yardley. I fear we will have the same issues with him that we have with Balde.
Millionaires now is it. James Forrest was saying it was a Lottery Ticket too.
Most people lose the Lottery.

Could I suggest that Alfie might have too high a transfer fee AND an unfavourable Celtic scouting report, making it unlikely he will be bought.
But I do not know better
Unfavourable Celtic scouting report !!!!!!?What, the same scouting reports that brought us Pukki, and Balde last year. These scouts that thought they would get us goals?
In the past few years these scouting experts have lost us an absolute fortune in duff strikers. You know the list. Now the money is probably the problem. We will spend £4-5 million on 3 duffers, rather than buy one of quality.

Who’s gonnay be first to ask where big Tam stands on the Independence issue on Friday ?
We will not be allowed to use the Euro.
We will have to do a deal with England to use the pound.
Why haven’t the SNP negotiated the terms of any potential deal in advance,so that we can make a decision on this issue.
Simply because the terms will be detrimental to us all.
The English won’t negotiate terms until we have put a noose around our necks and they have us by the balls.
