Media welcome Nicolas Kuhn received in Glasgow

369

Como!  Who knew?  You might expect the side who finished 10th in Serie A last season would be a source of players for Celtic (Reggina were 13th when we signed our former right winger Shunsuke Nakamura from them 20 years ago).  Now Como are signing teenagers from Betis for €22m and apparently Nicolas Kuhn for €19m.

This is the world, there’s no point complaining about it.  Como are the plaything of Indonesian owners, who have funded a rise from Siere D (where Reggina now are).  We have seen similar vanity projects playout across Europe.  They seldom end well, but before they burn out, there’s millions to be made for football players.

No one should expect anything other than Nicolas Kuhn making the most of his earning potential.  It is why he came to Celtic in the first place and why Celtic continue to attract players from across the globe to live in Glasgow, protected from harmful sun rays 99% of the year.  This is the world, let’s make the most of it.

It would be remis of me not to mention how some in the old media, followed by many online, treated the news of Nicolas signing for Celtic.  A know-nothing from Austria (billed as an “expert”) was given a platform to explain how “rubbish” the player was.  Celtic have an incredible ability to sell rubbish for €19m.

Whatever the process was that identified and selected Nicolas Kuhn, let’s have more of this “rubbish”.

The problem seems to be more he’s too good for Celtic and even his detractors concede his Tier One status.

They prefer shower room appointments or guys who were originally sounded out for the Assistants job.

Brendan has shifted eight players out, with a fair few still to go – what will they say when he ups his transfer record fee before August, we’ll be getting two article a day.

So you hadn’t heard of Nygren until he was linked with Celtic.

You fall into the trap of many football fans who have zero interest in European football outside the top 5 leagues. How would you know every Swedish player in the Danish league?

I’ll wager you hadn’t heard of Van Dijk, Lustig, O’Riley, Boruc, Moravcik, Nakamura intil they signed for Celfic.

    Doesn’t make them duds.

    %

I didn’t say that any of those players were duds.

I said that I hadn’t heard of Nygren.

Yep, the old ‘Why does he not get developed I like the look of him ‘ OR “he’s never let us down” ‘ there’s a player in there’ routine. Already let us down at Lennoxtown if they’re in the stand or away on loan. – Bad man is Brendan trying to dismiss prospects and get himself sacked from his multi million pound contract.

With regard to the window our big shop main spend is still to come.

Colin Stein, roll.of dishonesty. Says he won 4 league titles with the first monkey team on Wikipedia but that’s needing checked in the morning.

I do remember him taking part in the shortest European final in 1972 when 5 thousand hun fans were on the pitch nearly as long as the players. Two pitch invasions when Moscow Dynamo scored and the the ref blowing for full time on 85 minutes when he was near the tunnel as he could see the bad breath broken teeth mob were gearing up for another attack

Good assessment of the damage done by the ebt bandit.

I do think that there is other aspects that causes us to be wary. Arrogance and Abandonment.

Arrogance as in giving the job to Neil Lennon in the shower.

Abandonment as in Brendan flitting during the night.

In the back of our minds, we worry that such things could happen again.

But we don’t help ourselves. We berate BR for not giving game time to young players. Then he talks some of them up, it’s all about ‘this is evidence that BR is leaving us’.

I get anxious during games, but Transfer Windows? Not at all.

    Cheers,

    Weeron.

Any decent tv recommendations struggling to find something decent since I completed Mobland.

Mrs Quad and I are enjoying The Dropout, about the owner of US company Theranos; a study in sociopathy.

For something more in the gritty Mobland genre, the Italian crime series Gomorrah is a masterpiece imo.

  11. Good Morning Fholks – Rainy Day In The Chilterns

    Burnley78 @ 10:06 pm,

The fact remains Raskin is not close to the issue, he’s the exception at R2ngers, Celtic produce on average a couple of players a year that are 10 mn + players.

Look at the players Ange brought in and improved, looked how their value increased under Brendan Rodgers.

That’s how Clubs with good player recruitment and development plans work.

The Managers, scouts, coaches etc checking out and signing good players and making them better.

We then give a new extended contracts to those who are doing very well in the first team.

Those who want away, if their value is met we sell them, we sign new recruits to replace them and so it goes on.

Unfortunately we couldn’t get Greg to sign an extension and he went, he was replaced by KT.

We are selling Kuhn who wanted away and whose value was met, he will be replaced by Benjamin Nygren and a. n. other forward as Jota is a long term injury.

There is no woo~woo, analytics gurus or secret models.

If you know what your doing as Ange did and Brendan Rodgers does and if you’re supported by the Executive, the scouts, coaches, and staff it works.

The Lawwells are an irrelevance in that respect, that you and others keep bringing up as if key to the whole process.

Peter was obsessed by a moneyball process that was at best hit or miss, Mark was over-promoted.

Let’s concentrate on the things we know work in recruitment with the folk who have the skill-set and experience to make it work.

Since Ange left we have sold 110 mn of players, we back fill those players that go, and we continue with that process.

    BSR @ 11:20 pm,

We have already done some good house keeping of the squad this window, we have brought in a couple of good first team players.

With money burning a hole in our pocket and a few key first team positions that need improved by real quality before the play-offs it’s just a matter of leaving it to the experts, get them supported by the Executive and get our Principal shareholder to sign up our tier one manager on an extended contract.

    Hail Hail

  12. Celtic are weighing up a £3 million move for Dutch defender Justin de Haas as Brendan Rodgers looks to sharpen competition at the back ahead of the new campaign.

As reported by Stephen McGowan, the 25-year-old centre-half is firmly on the Parkhead radar after impressing with Portuguese side Famalicão. De Haas has been watched by Celtic scouts and is seen as someone who could immediately challenge for a first-team place — not just add depth.

  13. A former PSV and AZ Alkmaar youth product, de Haas has steadily built a solid reputation across stints in Croatia and now Portugal. At six foot four and comfortable in possession, he has the profile Celtic often look for in European recruits.

Some odd comments the last few days, well to me anyway, about the relevant quality of players at ours and their club.

Not my style to criticise anyone or get into a big discussion as I’m not able to be on the blog for long periods at a time.

I totally get the mental damage done to us as a support during the Murray era. The stuff that went on in the late eighties and nineties , a brown paper bag ebt if you like . Then the real thing in the noughties.

They nearly destroyed us. The peak years of watching football for many ruined. Yet we survived, thrived and then dominated.

Somehow though a fear of them remains. I don’t get it. What’s the worst that could happen? They might at some point reach parity with us, still looks a distant possibility. Even if it happens sooner , so what, they win the league four or five times out of ten. Why fear that, that’s what happens in every league in the world.

It’s weird to me that even in this era of absolute dominance some haven’t seemed to enjoy it.

  15. Who is Justin de Haas?

Justin de Haas is a 25-year-old central defender who plays predominantly on the left side of defense. Born and raised in the Netherlands, de Haas has gained attention from several European clubs due to his impressive skills and physical presence on the field. His strong defensive capabilities and tactical awareness make him an attractive prospect for Premier League clubs looking to enhance their defensive strategies.
