Media welcome Nicolas Kuhn received in Glasgow

369

Como!  Who knew?  You might expect the side who finished 10th in Serie A last season would be a source of players for Celtic (Reggina were 13th when we signed our former right winger Shunsuke Nakamura from them 20 years ago).  Now Como are signing teenagers from Betis for €22m and apparently Nicolas Kuhn for €19m.

This is the world, there’s no point complaining about it.  Como are the plaything of Indonesian owners, who have funded a rise from Siere D (where Reggina now are).  We have seen similar vanity projects playout across Europe.  They seldom end well, but before they burn out, there’s millions to be made for football players.

No one should expect anything other than Nicolas Kuhn making the most of his earning potential.  It is why he came to Celtic in the first place and why Celtic continue to attract players from across the globe to live in Glasgow, protected from harmful sun rays 99% of the year.  This is the world, let’s make the most of it.

It would be remis of me not to mention how some in the old media, followed by many online, treated the news of Nicolas signing for Celtic.  A know-nothing from Austria (billed as an “expert”) was given a platform to explain how “rubbish” the player was.  Celtic have an incredible ability to sell rubbish for €19m.

Whatever the process was that identified and selected Nicolas Kuhn, let’s have more of this “rubbish”.

Sorry for only getting back now. Been out all day and also noticed that the fisherman is at it. Just ignore the bait and scroll past. HH Anyway. Paul was one of the best footballers ever. Just look at his determination, his passing, and his scoring ability. We were lucky to have him, he was unlucky to have been there at a time when Celtic were so weak.

Cheers mate and enjoy the blog.

Really good of Shortie to publish the transcript of Billy Dodds’ interview to be reappointed (for the umpteenth time) as one of their pundits.

  5. Kyogo signs for Birmingham .

Johnny Kenny is nowhere near the standard of Kyogo.

WTF is Rodger’s thinking about ?

    Trusty poorer than Starfeld

    Engels poorer than O’Riley.

    Idah poorer than Giakomakis .

We are gradually lowering the standard of player at the club .

It’s a worry for me too!

Completely underwhelmed by new signings so far!

Am I to believe that the new winger we paid £1.3m is going to tear up the SPFL and Europe?

And the Japanese centre back is the answer to our centre back deficiencies? And at a cost of 250 grand?

I was told today that KT’s signing on fee was more than we spent on the other 4 new guys.

Why are we so tight fisted?

The huns are signing diddies for coppers but they are building a physical team. Tall and strong.

Our team is getting smaller by the day.

What was the issue with Naiwrocki(sp)?

He must have bonked somebody’s wife!

I am not buying Brendan’s high praise for these signings either.

If it sounds like guff it usually is!

Open the fecckin biscuit tin Celtic! FFS!

would like to emphasise that jota’s death was truly tragic – not trying to downplay any of the reactions. I was completely shocked. i was having some misgivings about a decision someone in my family recently made. Couldnt get my head round it. Jota’s death reminded me that you only have one life – grab it – if ever a remonder was needed. can totally accept the decision now.

How’s you, and when are you coming down to ayr next?

  13. TinyTim @ 8:59 pm,

If KT eventually does sign, he might be an upgrade on GT;(

    Seriously…

When did Brendan Rodgers sell Giakoumakis?

Starfelt wanted to go, he’d made that decision before Brendan Rodgers arrived.

And he was no VvD – misremembering his greatnes methinks.

Engels is a 11 mn pound player

    O’Riley is a 30 mn pound player

Good news is, Matt was a 10 mn player when BR arrived, his huge improvement in one season was due to BR&CO.

Engels will greatly improve this season.

Johnny Kenny was not a replacement for Kyogo – as Brendan Rodgers made clear only this week Johnny is a development player

“Rodgers said: “I’ve spoken to a few clubs that want to take him [Johnny] on loan.

“I just want to have a look in pre-season just to see where we’re at and see what’s going to be the best for his development.

“We obviously want him to be a Celtic player. He’s a goalscorer. There’s absolutely no doubt about that.

“It’s what’s going to be the best for him and Celtic and whether that’s going to be here or whether it’s just go away and get some more games and play.

“But I’ll assess that over pre-season.

One aspect of Celtic PLCs recruitment policy to sign players, improve them and sell when “optimal”.

Since Brendan Rodgers arrived Celtic have circa 110 mn in player sales.

How you manage that in two years without affecting the quality of the first team I don’t know.

Why (as per) Brendan Rodgers gets the blame for that I dont know.

However, the fact remains we did very well in the UCL last season and won a double.

Since Ange left we have done better in Europe and have improved our revenues and the value of our squad is actually greater now than the one Ange left us with.

    Think about that.

We have sold 110 mn in players and the value of today’s squad is worth more than Ange’s.

    Hail Hail

If the Swedish boy was not in final few months of his contract you would not have got near him for any less than 6 million. If kt was under contract you would not have get near him for less than 12 million. Doohan is a 3rd choice gk, who is home grown club trained. Callum is a young highly rated striker who will likely be 3rd choice, exact type Rodgers said he wanted to fill that role. The Japanese centreback is a ball playing centreback project who may or may not step up.

They replace a number of outgoings who have not done much. only taylor can be considered a loss and even that would be debated by many. Khun of 1st half of season is a loss, khun off second half of the season, not so much. Rodger’s words suggest he was not overly bothered by khun’s departure.

We have time to move on more fringe players. We have plenty of time to sign up more quality. i expect we will see both happen over the next month. It’s to early to Judge business, transfer deadline is to late to judge, pre-league and champions league qualifiers is the time is time to judge.

On last seasons signing, I expect a few of last seasons signings will kick on with the benefit of a pre-season and a year of playing football in Scotland.

Starfelt was crucified often on here. Much better second season than 1st season, expect same of trusty.

O’Riley in his second season was playing second fiddle to mooy, angels is playing most always also a very different player, that’s not like for like.

Giakomakis could not trap a bag of sand and his goal to minutes was likely not that much, if at all better than Idah.

Meade was dark more effective throught the middle last season than kyogo.

We are not getting much worse as a team.

Starlord was a great player who at times looked “scared” and less composed which am sure fed into the,

    he is shit –

He was a great centre half and is much missed

Oreilly as you said grew into it, and grow he did (pay attention engels)

Giakomakis fell away after we stopped playing early balls into the front post, this was his strength and he mullered all defenders for strength and determination in the front post

He had 6 months of dominance whilst kyogo was injured

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_oawXq7vI4

When kyogo came back we changed our play and the early front post cross got phased out, and so did he

He was such a good player running across the centre halves and getting a touch

Still don’t know why we stopped playing to his strength

Looking at the overall transfer picture, the Hoops gaffer, speaking to the Scottish Sun, said: “I’m really pleased with some of the guys we’ve brought in — and we need to bring in more.”

Not pleased with all of the guys then?

    Some things never change.
