Como! Who knew? You might expect the side who finished 10th in Serie A last season would be a source of players for Celtic (Reggina were 13th when we signed our former right winger Shunsuke Nakamura from them 20 years ago). Now Como are signing teenagers from Betis for €22m and apparently Nicolas Kuhn for €19m.
This is the world, there’s no point complaining about it. Como are the plaything of Indonesian owners, who have funded a rise from Siere D (where Reggina now are). We have seen similar vanity projects playout across Europe. They seldom end well, but before they burn out, there’s millions to be made for football players.
No one should expect anything other than Nicolas Kuhn making the most of his earning potential. It is why he came to Celtic in the first place and why Celtic continue to attract players from across the globe to live in Glasgow, protected from harmful sun rays 99% of the year. This is the world, let’s make the most of it.
It would be remis of me not to mention how some in the old media, followed by many online, treated the news of Nicolas signing for Celtic. A know-nothing from Austria (billed as an “expert”) was given a platform to explain how “rubbish” the player was. Celtic have an incredible ability to sell rubbish for €19m.
Whatever the process was that identified and selected Nicolas Kuhn, let’s have more of this “rubbish”.

Where is you evidence re value of the squad ?
Even Rangers grew their squad value by more than we did in Rodger’s first 3 windows.
There is no evidence to support your statement.

I know, it really isn’t cricket lol.

You are spot on with your comment. It is fragile but sadly so much more so for others living in that most basic state of fear than others. Hard for them to ‘grab’ any pleasure I would suggest.
We are so lucky moaning about the football and worrying about the ‘rangers coming’ is as stressy as it gets. Your sentiment really does apply to us. That is for sure.
Is the value of a player , the ( real ) price he’s bought for , or the (real ) price he’s sold for ?
Asking for a friend
The enemy must be shopping in the lower leagues of England for new heros read this and the comments for a good laugh fellas.

Good morning all.
I hope no one is assessing current market values from that goon website Transfermarkt.com.
As James Forrest pointed out recently it’s a shambles for example:
“Even now, with nearly €20 million coming in for Kühn, that website still values him at €12 million. Make of that what you will.”
Cricket fans:
Can England bat all day???

Operation make them feel good clearly underway and then some.
I hadn’t read MSM in yonks but stumbled upon those corkers.
The curious case of Kyogo.
Wanted more international caps, or wanted more money, a change of agent did the trick but spectacularly backfired, with no goals and no manager that signed him at Rennes. Chris Davies to the rescue a man with good Celtic connections snapped him up and with a bit of luck this time, he’ll score alright at Birmingham.
We don’t keep players that want away, but what remains a mystery is his fee, did we really get £10M for him, how much did Rennes get for Jota? and do we have another sell on windfall? Did any currency actually change hands when the Japanese talisman swapped out, with our star winger?
Two Celtic legends passed through Stade Rennes gates, so many questions and more Kyogo Japanese international caps gained at Celtic than any of his other clubs.

Burnley78 @ 8:59 am,
Of course there is evidence
Yet player valuations are a black art, as you know.
No one was valuing Jota above 15 mn in May ’23 – No one except the manager was valuing O’Riley at 30 mn in May ’24.
So we could argue the toss.
The point being that to sell 110 mn of players and maintain squad value is an excellent achievement.
That was a strategy masterminded by Peter Lawwell – when it suits you’ll be praising it’s success, when it doesn’t, like now where some of the value add comes from our current manager you poo~poo it.
Yet it is not down to one individual, this cult of personality you try to project is nonsensical.
The value of Meada and Hatate have soared since we signed them – a lot of fholk can take credit for that.
We have seen a steady climb in the value of players like CCV and Alistair Johnston.
Players brought in and developed like Liam Scales, good squad players with value.
There are other very valuable players without a big price tag – Callum McGregor, Kasper Schmeichel, James Forrest etc
Players who just got in and improved in price straight away – Kieran Tierney, Benjamin Nygren now worth 15 mn between them for me that value only goes up in the season ahead.
Then there are the traditional Celtic “moneyball” prospects – Callum Osmand, Inamura who may well exponentially increase in value – I’ll predict Callum will be quite a valuable player this time next season.
The strategy is working, the current model sustainable, the money in the bank grows.
All good stuff for the Celtic PLC and Celtic FC.
Now, a few more quality signings before the end of July and we are looking good for the play-offs.

Player valuations?
Hmm.
Here’s one.
Made a contribution to Champions League performance and winning of trophies ….
… or not.
PS – accurately measuring the scale of that contribution is neither possible nor necessary.
Interesting shout earlier re giakoumakis.
Maybe we should bring him back.
After all he has been with Cruz Azul for 12½ months now ….
… so will likely be itching for his next move.
BSR @ 10:40 am, 10:57 am,
Yes, a curious tale indeed – those back and forth player sales seem quite popular again – you have to think FSR has a part to play but that’s up to much smarter moneymen than me.
Having said that I thought Kuhn to Brentford and Ajer to Celtic a distinct possibility, not going to happen now.
Yes, the amount of squad management that goes on at Celtic these days is very impressive.
Gone are the days when “moneyball” failures were quietly tucked away down into the bowels of Celtic Park, waiting for a convenient time to quietly push them out the backdoor to the vehicle of a volunteer supporter who will drive them to the Airport themselves:)
Hail Hail
We are not in serious action for another month, we have euro qualifiers at end of august, about 2 months. we have seen a lot of players come and go already. There are gaps in our squad that need filled. There is time to sort those areas of concern.
If we don’t have another 3 players by 1st week in August questions could rightly be asked of the club but it’s to early right now to get worried.
HH
As an aside the physicality of the squad has been upped with the return of KT and benjermine.
Stephenbhoyboy….
Got to agree on your comments, a lot of uncommon sense in there….

Absolutely, there will be ways to work around FSR that’s all too evident, and once it’s spent it’s spent, it hasn’t seriously hampered big European clubs?
Brendan Rodgers said “ there’s a bit of money there now “ meaning at Celtic, he got that right. Nicolas Kuhn’s sale bumped us into three figures on the back of my fag packet. It’s as you said the other day “ good housekeeping “ so far the real deals have still to be done.

We play the first leg of our CL qualifying tie on August 19 or 20th. The 2nd leg a week later. The timing is brutal with instant success or failure.
This is our most important games of the season to come. Failure to qualify will result in downsizing ( No matter what is being said officially )
It is not a long time to be ready and match fit.

has to be a transaction in the ledgers, anything else is falase accountancy

Good afternoon all from the Victoria Bar. Still can’t see the hun coming. 🤔
I find it difficult to believe the Jota/Kyogo deal was a cashless arrangement . These are real players , not Panini stickers . It would be an all too obvious FSR loophole .

Costs are what other teams will pay for a player, value who knows how you can measure that, some players you would never want to lose but life to goes on and the football world keeps turning. Be agile, get the best possible squad and team on the park and we will be fine.
Sevco tv just tuned in and they are

Back to Basics – Glass Half Full @ 11:06 am,
Well yes, that’s the thing with player valuations.
Ange’s remaining men, Daizen, Reo, CCV, AJ, Scales, Ralston etc…
Same players, but due to UCL participation, first team experience and player development they have doubled in value.
That’s the nature of these things if you manage the squad properly.

BSR @ 12:05 pm,
Exactly, as we were run along the FSR lines in the first place, it is of no issue to us.
The fact others must do that only makes it a (slightly) more level playing field.
We have cash in the bank, current player sales that means we can happily splash the cash and be well within our FSR remit.
