Media welcome Nicolas Kuhn received in Glasgow

369

Como!  Who knew?  You might expect the side who finished 10th in Serie A last season would be a source of players for Celtic (Reggina were 13th when we signed our former right winger Shunsuke Nakamura from them 20 years ago).  Now Como are signing teenagers from Betis for €22m and apparently Nicolas Kuhn for €19m.

This is the world, there’s no point complaining about it.  Como are the plaything of Indonesian owners, who have funded a rise from Siere D (where Reggina now are).  We have seen similar vanity projects playout across Europe.  They seldom end well, but before they burn out, there’s millions to be made for football players.

No one should expect anything other than Nicolas Kuhn making the most of his earning potential.  It is why he came to Celtic in the first place and why Celtic continue to attract players from across the globe to live in Glasgow, protected from harmful sun rays 99% of the year.  This is the world, let’s make the most of it.

It would be remis of me not to mention how some in the old media, followed by many online, treated the news of Nicolas signing for Celtic.  A know-nothing from Austria (billed as an “expert”) was given a platform to explain how “rubbish” the player was.  Celtic have an incredible ability to sell rubbish for €19m.

Whatever the process was that identified and selected Nicolas Kuhn, let’s have more of this “rubbish”.

  1. Watching sevco against club bruge. Based on the game so far, panathanikas have got absolutely nothing to worry about. Sevco look totally off the pace.

Watching Father Brown and gave the hun game a look at the commercial break. Unforced errors all over the place by them, crowd looks sparce and that’s me being generous!

  3. Burnley78 @ 8:59 am,

“…Even Rangers grew their squad value by more than we did in Rodger’s first 3 windows.”

Matt O’Riley increased in value by 20 mn

Daizen increased in value by 7 mn

CCV increased in value by 5 mn

AJ increased in value by 3 mn

Reo Hatate increased in value by 5 mn

Abada increased in value by 4 mn

Kyogo increased in value by 4 mn

Kuhn increased in value by 15 mn

Just on those players, I make our increase in squad value over that time period to be 63 mn.

Now Rangers est 1872, no longer have a squad, due to financial irregularities and bankruptcy Rangers weny extinct in 2012

Their successor Club The R2ngers increased their squad value by more than that in the same time period did they?

    WELL

There is no evidence to support your statement.

  4. Bomber brown can put a sentence together and Sevco canny string a few passes.

    Jelly n ice cream 🍦 😋

  5. I would imagine that real player value isnt beyond the scope of the management accountants at Celtic, Celtic had their own model for valuations of potential recruits a while ago, and a value for each player that was different to the balance sheet value which is notoriously innacurate.

Fag packet valuations are for the birds, no serious business uses them for decision making purposes.

Aye your right, but nothing can be done about when the ties are played short of significant coefficient increases for club ans country. The club are working on sales and purchases. We would benefit from having the players we want in the building asap and I would never argue with that.

Wee reminder, we have added 2 first team starters, a back up gk and a couple of development players. As things stand we have only lost fringe players. That may change next week if khun sale goes through.

Sadly khun was like a man down in a lot of games after Jan 25, head turned perhaps. Not blaming him, he is only human. However, some of his preformances after jan 25 were boardering on criminal and cowerdly. That khun was a man down.

As someone who claims to have little interest in what “revenues players generate” you do seem to be a bit of an expert on it

i read that Chelsea are facing record fines for non-compliance.

if you want to be in the competition then financial transparency is required.

  9. kuhn scored in munich . excellent finish it was to . he scored a double when we clinched the league.

  10. Celtic40me @ 2:50 pm,

My post was a retort to Burnley78 @ 8:59 am’s comment this morning and should not be taken out of context with the post he made.

Just so we are all clear – I have a great deal of interest in the revenues players generate.

In fact, if Celtic are to maintain their position as a UCL top twenty four club, it is vital that the skillful way we have improved our navigation of this path over the last two years is continued.

  11. Quick quiz – according to Guinness glasses, what year was Guinness established?

  12. will next season be the season calmac is finally rationed/brought out for the big games?

  13. We haven’t replaced Broony still Calmac is now 32 has been overplayed and needs managed game time wise club must invest in 2 players for this position still in feel.

  14. Maestro

Raskin would have been a good Broony replacement.

Pity we have Engels and not him imo.

A wee bit of attitude with him and a decent player.

  15. Burnley78 @ 3:55 pm,

It’s an interesting one Raskin has done very R2ngers – obviously I don’t share your obsession with The R2ngers but having bought him for 1.5 mn and now a Belgium International worth 10 mn, you have to think a good bit of business

Of course Nicolas Raskin was bought in January 2023.

Our head of recruitment then was Mark Lawwell, who was looking at the second teir of Korea for 1.5 mn players.

So not a chance we’d have spotted that guy.

Getting in Benjamin Nygren for 1.5 mn this month sounds like we have smartened up our scouting and recruitment departments.

Do hopefully we won’t be making those mistakes again.

  20. Engels made four appearances for the Belgium National Team under their previous manager.

Due to injury and non availability Arne got to start a couple of matches, thought he did OK.

The last Belgium match more of their international players were available, they started the game with…

    BSR @ 12:05 pm,

Exactly, as we were run along the FSR lines in the first place, it is of no issue to us.

The fact others must do that only makes it a (slightly) more level playing field.

We have cash in the bank, current player sales that means we can happily splash the cash and be well within our FSR remit.

    Hail Hail

    …………………………………………………..

Yep, there are those that like to use FSR and sometimes even Rainjurz demise to remind us of the dear custodians and prudent fiscal policies that have gotten us to where we are. It’s as if it’s rude to mention Celtic and wealth in the same sentence, untold wealth is calculable approximately, even on the back of

    a fag packet.

The Sunday Times ( Michael Grant ) is majoring on the Brendan contract longevity, making it ‘the elephant in the room’? Oh – how SMSM pray that cheque book Brendan and his 11 from 13 stats were away, I’m glad BR’s next stop is in Ireland, the sooner he has his next chat with DD the better.

Garcia picks his squad on performance not potential

  23. BSR @ 5:47 pm,

Yes, Michael Grant and many more Scots with an interest in Football will be hoping this is Brendan Rodgers’ last year at Celtic.

Of course, if all of those folk were outwith Celtic it would be somewhat understandable but that’s far from the case as we are constantly reminded.

Hopefully the men from Cork will tie up the man from Carnlough in a longterm deal.

You can look at it from every angle you wish, the maths tell you one thing – Brendan Rodgers makes money for Celtic, so with the deal complete and warchest opening up another great season awaits.

And the medium and longterm planning for Celtic Glasgow to take their place at the top table of European football can continue.

Champions league football, should be open to perennial champions.
