Memorable window but improvements still needed

332

There has never been a deadline day when Celtic have been so well prepared for the remainder of the season.  We raided Japan ahead of the transfer window opening, brought in a young Irish striker and last week added central mid Matt O’Riley from MK Dons.  Today, the squad is depleted by injury and international absence, but if we add no more, it will still be one of our most memorable transfer windows ever.

Getting some of the well-remunerated squad fillers off the payroll would also help (looking at you, Albian and Vasilis).  Both were acquired during lockdown widows, when scouting opportunities were limited.  They are better players than we have seen and will hopefully get the chance to prove their worth elsewhere.

I’m still trying to reconcile what we went through on Saturday.  Added-time goals in two games changed the landscape incredibly.  If we consider Hearts’ missed penalty on Wednesday, the margins of how Celtic have progressed to within two points of the top of the table have never been tighter.

We are in a better place than we have been in months, but we will need to continue to improve if the title is to be won.

  1. Great window – different window than usual – for us with our eastern stars and midfield Matty.

Only addition I’da liked to have seen is Siegrist who seems a more commanding presence than the likeable Scott Bain (not sure about his by-foot distribution).

I remember how the huns laughed when Paulo McStay was rumoured to be joining Juventus; they laughed that the rest of our team were being signed by FrayBentos. How does Ramsays playing record compare to McCarthy’s??

The madness of how a modern business can sign a barely fit player and pay him north of 300-grand a week and another (new) club in another colder land can see his unavailability to play and still spunk equivalent cash on him – makes some of PL’s signing decisions look decidedly sane and sound.

As someone else indicated, Juventus is no stranger to whiffy financial dealings, referee-related scandals and links to organised crime. Fits w suspicions that the noo blue club boasts a very smart, new laundry facility.

I know toons have sister cities so why no football clubs…

  2. Urhogide. Montgomery. Shaw, Henderson and Hazard out on loan.

Barkas, Ajeti and Boli still here.

Do you think any of the above will be back for 2022/23? (Henderson being the only one who is definitely not returning).

  3. That fekineejit Boyd making a total Are of himself on SSN.

    “Who cares about Crystal Palace”

Think the wee man would like to have lamped him.

  4. I dont think I have wanted to gub a team as much as I want Celtic to destroy them on Wednesday night, over to Mr P and the players they are well capable, ram Boyd’s words down his shiny white teeth mouth as another reporter Bridges commented on, must be another hun at Sky.There are plenty

  5. Liam Scales an option in midfield for Wednesday? No Soro, only leaves us with Hatate, O’Riley and Mccarthy.

  6. and some on here think a draw would not be a bad result for us against thems on wed, heaven help us with that attitude.

  7. I would be worried about ramsay if he was the player arsenal had. However he can’t get a game for an average Juve game. He will not hack it in the hustle bustle of the SPL. Bring it on.

Try telling Ange that you think a draw would be a good result on Wednesday , but be prepared for a stare that will turn you to stone .

  9. They just need to outdo the cluggers and bang goalos in………….

the ref will look after us………..

Good work Celtic, getting a fee as well, when we got him for her haw. ( thumbs up )

  11. Sometimes players don’t get games with clubs because their wages are too high and they want them shifted …..doesn’t always necessarily mean they’re not good enough……

But in this case Allegri thought he wasn’t

    And he was always injured

And he played for Wales when he said he wasn’t fit to play for Juve then came back injured

And he slagged off their training methods

  13. Wales play Austria in six weeks

The Huns are probably stupid enough to think he wants to play for them but all he wants is to get fit to play in that game and the final qualifier

He won’t be risking his fitness to play in that game, he’ll play in it whether he’s fit or not.

    GLENDALYS

He’s good at them stares 👍

Possibly the best handler of the meeja since Jock Stein .

  15. get young welsh into the holding midfield role – he’d get stuck into them and is far more mobile than Macarthy

  16. I AM a bit worried about our midfield on Wednesday.Any injury will level us with a huge problem. This might not be popular, but I have a nagging doubt about Hatates ability to last 90 minutes at present.Even looked a bit off the pace on Saturday.Whether he was carrying a couple of knock from Hearts game, don’t know,I hope not,but its in my head.

Mc Carthy will have dreamt of playing in this game. What a chance to be a hero.I watched Juranovic for Poland, and he virtually played R Midfield to R Winger, bombing up and down, whipping crosses in,and defending.I think we have to do something out the box.

Unless Calmac is back. When you look at it,just how bad has our luck been.

They’re paying £2.5m for four months

    166 grand a game

    ——————–

Where does that kind of cash magically appear from when you’re running a debt-distressed entity?

From Ramsey’s POV tho, he must be looking for some kind of playing guarantee just to let him get game time in his legs if the wales games are his priority? No doubt it’s a box-office name (albeit a B-movie name)

But on more optimistic news, great to see Eriksen’s return alongside young master Ajer. Best of luck Christian.

  18. How does that make Souttar feel. The won’t pay Hearts the money for him.Hope it stays like that.

Where does that kind of cash magically appear from when you’re running a debt-distressed entity?

First cash installment of Patterson’s transfer fee

Barely arrived in the bank account and spent

First chance in their history yo behave a bit responsibly and they’ve done it all straight away
