Memorable window but improvements still needed

332

There has never been a deadline day when Celtic have been so well prepared for the remainder of the season.  We raided Japan ahead of the transfer window opening, brought in a young Irish striker and last week added central mid Matt O’Riley from MK Dons.  Today, the squad is depleted by injury and international absence, but if we add no more, it will still be one of our most memorable transfer windows ever.

Getting some of the well-remunerated squad fillers off the payroll would also help (looking at you, Albian and Vasilis).  Both were acquired during lockdown widows, when scouting opportunities were limited.  They are better players than we have seen and will hopefully get the chance to prove their worth elsewhere.

I’m still trying to reconcile what we went through on Saturday.  Added-time goals in two games changed the landscape incredibly.  If we consider Hearts’ missed penalty on Wednesday, the margins of how Celtic have progressed to within two points of the top of the table have never been tighter.

We are in a better place than we have been in months, but we will need to continue to improve if the title is to be won.

Must have been a different Juranovic who helped Croatia give Scotland a football masterclass during the Euros.

  3. Fans that haven’t played the game at a professional level know as much about football as Keevins.

Could be a masterstroke by Der Hun but know this, what a gamble, the players they have signed are not their players they are loanees. A loanee player with no realistic option to buy is like a prostitute.

    Fools gold, risky business.

    Der Hun is playing Roulette.

Stephen Welsh at centre mid is not a bad shout in the circumstances…

Hatate to his left, O’Riley to his right

Pretty good in the air, good forward passer and fairly useful at both ends of the park.

    No shrinking violet either.

  5. If Ralston and Taylor are either or both blessed with a starting position against Sevco they should know in the forefront of their minds, Bitton gave everything to make it possible. Their sloppiness at the weekend let our Captain and Club down.

  6. We can be sure Ramsey went to the huns because that was his best offer.

Assuming Juve have not donated him to Sevco, they’ll be paying millions in one way or another for four months service.

    Not smart but headlines generated.

  7. It is quite possible we might see Juranovic playing higher up the field with both Taylor and Ralston playing at the back. It gives us another option

Ramsay …. deal of the day according to Sky . They forgot to add that it was deal of the day for Juventus .

MSM on turbopower with it , unsurprisingly .

  9. Forget how & why Ibrox are able to do these deals – unless they are illegal it is none if our business.

The only question is what will be the effect? Well one thing is for sure, the players they have brought in won’t make them weaker in the next four months.

On the pitch is where it matters. Have we got enough ‘in the tank’ to win the title?…….well no one really knows – only time will tell, and the clock starts ticking on Wednesday. It is as simple as that.

Ramsey will be costing the huns an eye watering amount of money and apparently he has only played for 6 minutes since October, being extremely injury prone.

Looks like they are all in now.

If this extremely risky gamble fails they are vershtupped.

It’s up to us to make sure their gamble fails , and we will . Emphatically .

  12. Juventus want Ramsay off their books. Considering he ain’t kicking a ball in anger for them, where is the shop window?

Der Hun have offered free advertising “if” he has a sell on value.

Rather than bartering on reducing their weekly wage deficit, Juventus have went hell for leather. Can we get anyone to take him off our books?

Look at what Celtic have done with players that shine in Scotland, worth a punt to an English Market looking for a quick fix IF he can prove himself.

Problem for Sevco is, Ramsays guaranteed game time regardless of performance level.

He decides if he plays, not the manager.

Der Hun only gets to decide when to take him off and that has repercussions in their camp. If it doesn’t go right quickly it goes awfully wrong.

Ramsey confirms Wednesday at Celtic Park is too soon for him and he’ll need to wait for his debut.

Has this morning’s optimism left you so soon?

Are we back to being lucky to scrape into the top 6?

    —–

I don’t do stand-alone optimism, or, pessimism. I comment on the evidence & facts as I see them. If the evidence & facts change, then so does my interpretation. Optimism & pessimism are two opposites on a spectrum, and like financial investments, can go up as well as down.

I am a stand-alone Celtic supporter of long-standing, of that there is no doubt – no qualification, or spectrum needed there!

I am optimistic that Ange is the right man for the job. I am optimistic that the team will do much better than last year and could win the title. All this is based on what I have seen this season to date. At the start of the season things were different, indeed at one stage we were in SEVENTH place. “Breaking into the top six” was “tongue in cheek’. Quoting it back is only mischievous and ignores context & perspective – any discussion, or, exchange of views that excludes these elements is tedious & nonsensical.

I am pessimistic that, due to circumstances. we go into the most important game of the season with GG as our only recognised striker. I don’t rate him on what I have seen to date. A front three of Forrest – Abada – Jota, would be my choice.

Nevertheless, Celtic can surprise, as we all know, and I’m sure we will all assess our positions on the O/P spectrum at 22:00 on Wednesday.

I hope this answers your question.

Elected dictatorship in a 19th-century state

All spelled out by Clive Lewis

In a healthy democracy Boris Johnson would by now be a former PM. The fact he’s still in post – having lied to Parliament and the public last year – tells us we have a problem that goes beyond his personal qualities as a political leader, to the heart of our failing democracy. We now know Boris Johnson and the No 10 operation either didn’t understand the lockdown rules they made, or they didn’t believe those rules applied to them.

Either of these possibilities means this PM should resign and his government fall. But they haven’t.

There has been scant empathy with the public, who largely complied with lockdown measures to protect their families and communities.

While much of the public acted in the collective interest of our country, the same can’t be said of some who devised & imposed the lockdown rules.

So what now, after such serious allegations have been made about the conduct of the Prime Minister, and the update in Sue Gray’s preliminary report out today?

The power to hold the Prime Minister to account for his actions is now in the hands of the damaged institution of the Metropolitan Police – which has finally and belatedly started investigating – and Tory MPs who have the cover of the 1922 committee.

Herein lies the problem. Without a written constitution and without strong checks and balances on an increasingly powerful government committed to doing away with the weak checks already there, the institutions of our democracy will continue to be fatally undermined.

Right now, the government is using their power to make sure the public has none – whether that is through attacks on our voting system and the independence of the judiciary, or the hollowing out of the right to protest, the right to vote, citizenship rights, and our human rights.

Boris Johnson should go. But this issue goes far beyond the integrity of the PM or even his government.

Until we undergo a programme of democratic renewal, we’ll be stuck with a system that has proven itself unfit for the challenges we face now and in the coming century.

Hope for a Japanese win which will maybe allow big Tom a rest and chance to grab an early flight home.

Then Maeda to join him for the private jet up from London. They can join Kyogo on the bench for tomorrow night and Calmac will make the starting line up.

Meanwhile it is a bit too soon for the ‘celebrity team player’ over at Ibrox.

Where are other clubs (including ours) in Scotlands chairmen challenging a Klub living on so much debt but especially a Hearts, Hibs or Aberdeen and again even our own club.

I don’t think players travelling from the other side of the world will be ready for a high intensity match.

As for the private jet use. I’m conflicted. How can I condemn the Foreign secretary for using a private jet when I condone footballers using them.
