Michael, they have taken you away… from Ibrox

If you aggregate the nods, winks and rumours around Celtic this week you might be inclined to think we’re in the market for a target-man striker with a few years’ experience under his belt.  I agree with the principle that we need a target man and I’m also of the view that short-term deals are not nearly as desirable as permanent contracts, but as we know, it’s too easy to load the club full of squad players who cumulatively cost a lot of money but scarcely trouble the first team.

Hooper, Stokes, Samaras, Bangura, Rasmussen and Murphy are all under contract for next season and we cannot be confident of attracting bids for any of those Neil Lennon might want to move on.  If we add a seventh striker, his name better be on the team sheet before Gary Hooper’s.  Signing an exotic version of Daryl Murphy would add spice to our week but would only consume scarce resources.  I’d rather not.

Co-opting a media partner works in theory.  It’s always better to have good relationships with the media than the kind of relationships Celtic perennially have, but what happens when your media partner plays with a straight bat?

Rangers media partner, STV, today report Nigerian trialist, Michael Uchebo, boarded a plane out of Glasgow a few hours after arriving (Michael, they have taken you away….) as the VVV-Venlo striker with 8 career goals to his name had “a poor first impression of” Rangers.

Michael, you clearly have a rubbish strike rate but you’re a remarkably perceptive individual.

Well someone isn’t telling the whole truth regarding that Michael Uchebo thing.

Either Celtic bid too low and the Dutch are not interested

Celtic made NO bid and the Dutch are using this to force Rangers into making a more serious bid (nae chance of that of course)

Someone is trying to cover their tracks regarding why the player walked out after a day.

According to STV the player WAS NOT impressed with Rangers.

Someone isn’t giving us the full picture – cue keevins tonight tell us about biscuit tins at Celtic and no mention of a player walking out because he thought Rangers were a joke.

All this talk of Rasmussen has set me wondering… Have any of our players gone out on loan then come back and been successful? I can’t think of any.

Is it just me that’s easily confused? I thought this Michael fella high tailed it out of Murray park /Ibrox because he didn’t think much of the club.

Then I see on the back of the Daily Ranger ( while I was waiting in the supermarket queue, honest) that he left because he was a ” flop”. Nae bounce game ,

    nae 5-a-side behind closed doors…….nuthin.??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Maybe he tripped over the mat on the way in and swally didnae fancy his diving abilities. Aye. That must be it.

Pantaloon Duck – clearly you’re not referring to all the Celtic greats that used to be ‘farmed out’ to the Juniors to toughen them up before they were introduced to the first team?

I think Danny McGrain and Tommy Burns had spells at St Anthony’s.

  10. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

Glendaly – sounds modern enough for me.

I shall investigate and report my findings to the forum.

Philbhoy , I was followed home from by the ‘boys in blue’ from the nearest main road to me.

PC : Evening Sir , Do you know why I’ve followed you ?

    Me(resisting the urge to say ‘because you’re lonely?’ : No , I don’t.

PC: Well you were speeding on $$%^%^ rd .

Me: No i wasn’t . I had cruise control on and had it set to 35 (in a 40 zone).

PC : Well , regardless. You undertook me .

Me : No I didn’t , you were just pulling away from the lights. I was in a different lane and kept my speed constant . That’s why I went by you .

PC: When I pulled in behind you , you engaged reverse gear twice. Why did you do that ?

Me (becoming more and more convinced that this was a ‘gotcha’ moment) : Because my car has an automatic transmission and reverse is between Park and Drive AND i always engage Park when i’m stopped at lights.

PC: Well , you undertook me. Don’t do it again . Goodnight.

Seriously , that’s word for word what happened. It was only afterwards that i realised I’d had a pint about an hour before :-(

Bada- of course I call mine ‘Giorgios’, in due deference to the manliest of men.

  14. Pantaloon Duck – Cha Mulgrew went out on loan to Dundee utd.

To be fair we then sold him but he came back eventually to be one of the most consistent players this term (and the best deadball expert I’ve seen since Naka!).

  20. Afternoon lhads and lhassies.

Sorry to sound negative but does anyone else hear the ominious sounds of a dull thud coming up re a new striker.

Hope young keatings is not sent out on loan if we do not bring in someone before the window shuts.

I was given pelters for suggesting Rasmussen should be given a proper chance pre season. Still think he can do a job for us. We may need him

I find it a bit odd that you think more of someone just because he happens to have been born in a particular country.

It’s not like he had a choice where he was born.

    I just don’t get it.

  22. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

This may be a scam but I’ve just had an e-mail from a Nigerian prince, offering me £1M pounds worth of ‘top talented footballers’.

All I have to do is e-mail my bank details before midnight on 31 January.

If this is a scam I hope no other top Scottish football people have been caught out.

These Nigerian prince scammers will empty a warchest faster than you can say Goodluck Jonathan

‘Would it be illegal to undertake a slowly moving hearse?’

Don’t think undertaking is in itself illegal.

How slow are we talking here?

Bear in mind it would be considered bad form if you are attending the funeral.

  24. Its not illegal to undertake a slow moving lane o cars. For example, a traffic jam on the motorway, some lanes go faster than others!
