Michael, they have taken you away… from Ibrox

1425

If you aggregate the nods, winks and rumours around Celtic this week you might be inclined to think we’re in the market for a target-man striker with a few years’ experience under his belt.  I agree with the principle that we need a target man and I’m also of the view that short-term deals are not nearly as desirable as permanent contracts, but as we know, it’s too easy to load the club full of squad players who cumulatively cost a lot of money but scarcely trouble the first team.

Hooper, Stokes, Samaras, Bangura, Rasmussen and Murphy are all under contract for next season and we cannot be confident of attracting bids for any of those Neil Lennon might want to move on.  If we add a seventh striker, his name better be on the team sheet before Gary Hooper’s.  Signing an exotic version of Daryl Murphy would add spice to our week but would only consume scarce resources.  I’d rather not.

Co-opting a media partner works in theory.  It’s always better to have good relationships with the media than the kind of relationships Celtic perennially have, but what happens when your media partner plays with a straight bat?

Rangers media partner, STV, today report Nigerian trialist, Michael Uchebo, boarded a plane out of Glasgow a few hours after arriving (Michael, they have taken you away….) as the VVV-Venlo striker with 8 career goals to his name had “a poor first impression of” Rangers.

Michael, you clearly have a rubbish strike rate but you’re a remarkably perceptive individual.

  1. The Honest Cover-up on

Sounds like McCoist is not getting any say on the trialists that Gordon Smith is bringing into Murray Park at the moment if he isn’t even affording Uchebo the courtesy of a meet and greet. What an utter shambles. Gordon Smith saying the other day he didn’t know why the Estonian was not playing in the bounce game and didn’t know where he was. “…you’d better ask Ally that”. Strange that he seems to have gone full circle from Ally to Alistair and back again.

I remember the vicious abuse dished out to Jock Brown where there was conflict between him and Jansen. Compare and contrast to the cuddly approach the media are showing Smith and McCoist at the moment.

The only time that i’ve seen the animals/huns fans facing ‘true’ justice was, at Hampden on the pitch immediately after the 1980 hampden riot cup final. Hundreds of the autograph-hunting fraternity amongst the Celtic support, poured onto the pitch to, well….get autographs!

Within seconds, the most riotous wing(all of them ?) of the hun support, where on the pitch charging the Cellic fans. This misguided section of our support where soon replaced on the pitch by, an enfuriated rank and file section of fans, for many the sight of the attacking hun-hordes was the straw that broke a, usually unbreakable temperament!

I have to say that, having been brought up in the scarf up yer jook efter the gemme era, this was a defining point for me as a Celtic fan….the day the Celtic fans demonstrated to the hun and, anyone else watching that, although we are the best fans in the world….don’t ever try and use us as punch-bags!

The 1980 SCF and, riot will go down as one of the most precious memories of my Celtic supporting life. The day the team and the fans won ALL the battles on the pitch!

    Hail! Hail!

  10. Celtic must wait another month to find out if they will be punished by Uefa for fan-related incidents during their Europa League match against Udinese.

Uefa charged Celtic with “the displaying of an offensive banner and setting off of fireworks by fans” in their match in Italy on 15 December.

The incidents had been included in the match delegate’s report.

Uefa’s Control and Disciplinary Body was due to hear the case on Thursday but it has been moved to 24 February.

Celtic banned a fan for life who they said was responsible for displaying the banner and attacking a steward in Udinese’s Stadio Friuli.

  16. Rangers FC now sign Jeff Oyando

    27 Jan 2012 15:51:53

Kenya Premier League(KPL) side Rangers FC have now added former Tusker FC and veteran midfielder Jeff Oyando to their list of their new signing for the new season.

Oyando started training with the club three day’s ago under head coach Ezekiel Akwana at the Nairobi Railway grounds.

Oyando was rumoured to have been retained by Tusker to handle their Youth team while other reports linked him with a move to another KPL side Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).

Nevertheless, Rangers FC chairman Yobes Ongeri disclosed that they have agreed terms with Oyando who is perhaps the experienced player in the team.He will now replace Pascal Ochieng who is heading to the Malaysian League.

Other new signings include former Sofapaka and AFC Leopards defensive midfielder James Orundu, Patrick Macharia, Kevin Nginai, Patrick Njuguna, Calson Mweresa, Alfred Chege and former KCB defender Joseph Njuguna.

Ongeri told Supersport.com that so far the team has shown flashes of brilliance during their recent trials for new players adding that they are targeting for the League title.

Ongeri observed that they are yet to agree terms with the Malaysian team which is seeking the services of Ochieng.

“At the moment, he added,I cant tell you whether Ochieng deal has gone through. We are still talking and I believe within few day’s, we shall come up with a clear picture..Ochieng just left without informing us.He just called when he had arrived in Malaysia.Nonetheless, we are not bitter with him since he has served the club with distinction .He was a role model for the young players but I’m happy he has involved the club in the entire deal”

the fact that Stokes played well at Hibs immediately before we signed him and had previously played well for Falkirk makes his situation different

Rasmussen may play well if he goes back to Sweeden/Denmark

  20. A loan is a type of debt. Like all debt instruments, a loan entails the redistribution of financial assets over time, between the lender and the borrower. In a loan, the borrower initially receives or borrows an amount of money, called the principal, from the lender, and is obligated to pay back or repay an equal amount of money to the lender at a later time

If wikipedia is to be believed, a loan involves paying back. If it doesn’t have to be paid back, it is not a loan. Thank you Mr. RTC, you don’t listen to horsypoopoo.
