Midfield fight, CSA article and Football Memories

1215

I had a look at the story on the official site this morning about a compilation CD with various versions of the Celtic Song being released.  After the initial pleasure of seeing Emilio Izaguirre and Scott Brown on their feet unaided, what struck me most was the apparent body mass of the two players we would normally consider our midfield enforcers, Scott and Beram Kayal.

Against Paddy McCourt, Joe Ledley and Emilio, not to mention men of considerable bulk, like Charlie Mulgrew, they are comparatively svelte and diminutive.  The central midfield role is about mobility and football-intelligence more than anything else.  How you use your weight against an opponent is as important as having the weight to begin with, but when the margins between winning and not winning are so tight, getting the physical balance right is important.

I don’t think I’ve been happy with a Celtic 4-4-2 line-up for years but playing Scott, Beram and a couple of wingers across midfield feels like an invitation for more limited opponents to bully this area, something the Highlanders did very effectively the last time we visited Inverness.

After mentioning tomorrow’s Fans Against Criminalisation meeting in yesterday’s blog I read Joe O’Rourke’s item on the Supporters’ Association site on the same subject with a mixture of horror and foreboding.  The First Minister would be well advised to quickly reign-in whatever loose cannons he has roaming the corridors of power.  Well done to Joe for bringing this to the attention of a wider audience.

The guys from the Alzheimer’s charity, FootballMemories, org.uk asked me to bring their site to your attention.  They work with Alzheimer patients, using the universal platform football provides us all, to engage and invoke recollections.  The site has lots of great Celtic stories, take a look and add your own.

I owe Enrico a bit more than just thanks for the Wim league win.

Whit a night :) Worth the wait. Before then, sitting on sh@tty Hampden wood benches and being exposed to huns face to face when leaving the “stadium” with nae protection from the polis….it paid off in the end. Louis Armstrong guided us to much safety in those days, especially when (after cheating us out of another league title), we were able to celebrate 3 goals after they “won” the league.

The bitterness on their coupons was priceless, as Strathclyde’s finest ensured our paths crossed. “Aye, that’s yer league lhads. Enjoy ya f@~ian b’s”. Cue us singing: Third goal is the deepest :)

And their coaches oozing by with them unable to contain their hatred, while the polis eyed us innocent pasers-by with contempt.

Nothing had changed then from the decade before, and nothing has changed now.

You have your finger on the pulse more than even the highest regarded on this site IMO.

    Blessed are the peacemakers apparently.

Paul67 makes time to respond to all who frequent his blog and asks him a question. I see Paul67 as a true disciple of Brother Walfrid. The attitude he adopts to All is exemplary. I remember James Forrest slaughtering him but he gave him a role in his new venture. That is incredible forgiveness and epitomises His Blog.

We all get a bit crazy at times but for the most part we Love our Fellow Celtic Friends even if their views are diametrically opposed to our own.

Everyone knows my views on Evolution between species but OMG Evolution is always happening, of that there is absolutely no doubt.

You’re taking my self-ridicule personally amigo. I should be clearer when targetting myself. Having spent a wee part of my late teens growing up in Wester Hailes in the 80s, i’m sure you’ll appreciate that.

Love your compliments – can’t get enough :)

But the middle line of what you said there hit the nail on the head, that you appreciate where some don’t.

If it wasn’t for that man, and the history he respects, we wouldnae be chatting just now, and a lot of other things wouldn’t have happened, to put it crudely.

The charity donations coming from the site must be immense.

More fholks should be voicing their opinions and not just lurking.

Always pay attention to your own posts when lurking myself amigo.

Thanks for the kind words – the feeling is mutual.

Noone knows anyones individual circumstance, you put an olive branch out to a person who you didn’t need to.

I think that is the most Christian act anyone can possibly do.

    Hail Hail Big Chap

Taking the Wee man to the Atletico game, his first competitive Euro game, and he is so excited, almost as excited as me. :))

  9. Petec,

The dance music is before my time, but on a Ce-Lo Green moment, another new classic :)

A friend of mines last year, 3am in a boozers, grabbed my rizla packet off me, and nabbed a pen off someone to write something on my packet of papers.

I woke up with a massive hangover the next day, and it wasn’t until about 6pm i went for my first roll up.

Opened the rizla packet and saw the scribbled message.

It was a tad illegible, but the clear words were, emboldened and scribbled over, in caps, “F@~@ YOU!!!!!!!”

I got most upset as this was a man i hold in very very high esteem.

The same night, it happened per chance, Cee-Lo Green’s video came up when me and the burd where looking for something on Youtube,

It was called “Forget You” apparently. That’s when it hit me, and i found the real thing. :)

No matter what they tell us, this man is one of the best talents to hit the popular music scene in decades. And i don’t like soul music :)

I think you are not wrong. That guy has real quality and I hope he is not a controlled commodity and the 2nd link suggests he is not (perhaps not though with todays audience).

Apologies if already posted (not read the nightshift yet) but papers are reporting we are being investigated for ‘sectarian hate songs’ at the Rennes game!

Allegedly a Strathclyde police officer who travelled to Rennes has reported Celtic fans to UEFA

Can of worms ripped open if true, i can see Strathcyldes finest who ignored decades of sectarian and racist singing from other clubs fans, Why speak up now?

  14. Bright, pleasant morning here in North Ayrshire.

I can’t believe this Grahame creature is in government, much less taking the lead in implementing a bill supposedly designed to draw the very poison which she herself has been accused of spreading.

    What a nightmare!

I’ll bet he was primed to do that before he even left Scotland.

Just saw Croatias 3rd goal against turkey on espn. Cross into box and free header. Goal.

Lets wait and see if its true, remember Rankers are in deep serious financial trouble.

  18. The Honest Mistake (Sickened) on

I think the Rennes thing is a load of nonsense. There were no questionable songs sung in the stadium that I heard. The booing of Fraser Forster was the most offensive noise I heard come out of a Celtic supporters mouth.

Perhaps strathclydes finest think that a guy dressing up as the pope is a sectarian hate crime.

  19. So if a Strathclyde police officer goes on holiday and spots something he didnt like he can report you when he gets back home?

    Seems like classic newspaper nonsense.

  20. It seems the article is on the sun website

Regarding the home Rennes game, not away
