Midfield truths

175

Celtic got the job done at Ross County yesterday with a performance that was far from their scintillating norm this season.  This comes on the back of a home win over Hibs last time out, where again they struggled to breakdown an opponent, who on that occasion played the majority of the game with 10 men.

The games against County and Hibs were both played without Aaron Mooy and (apart from 13 minutes v Hibs) Reo Hatate.  Celtic were poorer for their absence.  Even defenders were less assured in possession, such are the options created for them by Reo and Aaron, not to mention their more obvious creative talents.  We have learned some midfield truths these last two games.

Aaron will be back for Saturday.  By then, Reo’s hamstring injury will have three weeks convalescence, which is just on the cusp of viability.  Important though this game is, the Scottish Cup semi-final is the biggest game this month.  I would be reluctant to jeopardise Reo for Hampden.

We don’t do this often enough, so…. great spot by VAR at Dingwall.  Only Cameron Carter-Vickers saw the penalty.  Sky TV’s “Shocking decision, it hit Carter-Vicker’s shoulder”, became “Shocking decision” only, when their video made it clear this was not the case.  If only Sky staff watched Sky Sports their product would improve.  Funny watching them squirm, I suppose.

Ah, Brendan, it was always going to end this way.  Our former manager got 4 years at Leicester City before being mutual-ed out of a job yesterday.  He improved Celtic immeasurably in his time here before throwing colleagues under the proverbial bus when they obstructed a bumper move to China.  More on this later.

  1. Another issue of share confetti at Snake Mountain, 7.7million shares at 25p raising what, £1.9m.

Debt to equity? Keeping the lights on? Instalment payment or loan payment due?

Embdae notice,no replays of numerous fouls on Kyogo in the box,and offside decisions against us yesterday? Sky are part of the problem.

  3. They had a year with record turnover, posted an operating profit, hadn’t yet accounted for two fairly sizeable sales of players…and they still need to raise cash.

If that was Celtic I’d be nervous.

  4. Kyogo spent half the game on his backside. You’re thinking ‘dodgy surface, needs a longer stud’. Then you watch the game back and he’s just getting dunted any time he’s near a Ross County defender. He won’t get protection, so he needs to be smarter – no?

D66, I noticed that myself. I’m in Helensburgh now and it was a lovely bright afternoon so the vapour trails were very evident.

I’m sure one of our conspiracy theorists will explain 🤔 and put us on the path to enlightenment.

Not much weather at 33000ft, pretty much the same temp, humidity all the time. Clear sky just makes the trails more clear. I used to watch them as a wean in Ayrshire when Prestwick had all the trans Atlantic flights.

Funny what makes you choose a career; 33 years in aviation this year

  17. CONEYBHOY,

Mrs Emeraldbee and myself were walking down the beach from Troon to the Pow Burn outside Prestwick and back just last week. On our lovely wee walk were entertained by a big four-engine prop taking off from Prestwick, out over Arran, round and back to land at Prestwick. Must have done this a dozen times – am assuming a pilot building up taking off/landing experience.

Anyway, as you say, watching them is such simple entertainment. Or filling the void in more empty minds?

Glorious day, fantastic visibility last Monday, so it was.

There have been loads of military planes in Prestwick doing practice like that over the last year or so. US, Canada, Europeans. Mostly transport planes. Hopefully Prestwick making some money out of the landing fees.

I always worry about Prestwick surviving – I remember my daughter being amazed, when she first landed there, that granda’s car was feet away from the exit😎

Right, no more shop talk, mon the Hoops
