Midfield truths

175

Celtic got the job done at Ross County yesterday with a performance that was far from their scintillating norm this season.  This comes on the back of a home win over Hibs last time out, where again they struggled to breakdown an opponent, who on that occasion played the majority of the game with 10 men.

The games against County and Hibs were both played without Aaron Mooy and (apart from 13 minutes v Hibs) Reo Hatate.  Celtic were poorer for their absence.  Even defenders were less assured in possession, such are the options created for them by Reo and Aaron, not to mention their more obvious creative talents.  We have learned some midfield truths these last two games.

Aaron will be back for Saturday.  By then, Reo’s hamstring injury will have three weeks convalescence, which is just on the cusp of viability.  Important though this game is, the Scottish Cup semi-final is the biggest game this month.  I would be reluctant to jeopardise Reo for Hampden.

We don’t do this often enough, so…. great spot by VAR at Dingwall.  Only Cameron Carter-Vickers saw the penalty.  Sky TV’s “Shocking decision, it hit Carter-Vicker’s shoulder”, became “Shocking decision” only, when their video made it clear this was not the case.  If only Sky staff watched Sky Sports their product would improve.  Funny watching them squirm, I suppose.

Ah, Brendan, it was always going to end this way.  Our former manager got 4 years at Leicester City before being mutual-ed out of a job yesterday.  He improved Celtic immeasurably in his time here before throwing colleagues under the proverbial bus when they obstructed a bumper move to China.  More on this later.

Before we reached the Alexander Base

The ding dong we did surely raise

In the bar of the ship, had great sport

As the boat she sailed out of the port

Landed up in the Douglas Head

    Enquiring for a vacant bed

The dining room we soon got shown

    By a decent looking woman

Saying ‘Lads ate up if you can. ‘

Oh the crack was ninety with the MOD overnight.

  10. CLANCY IN CHARGE OF DERBY

By CQN Magazine on 4th April 2023 Latest News

KEVIN CLANCY will be the man in charge when Celtic take on their Ibrox opponents at Parkhead on Saturday.

The match official will be assisted by Nick Walsh who will be operating the VAR multi-screens across the city.

It will be Clancy’s first Glasgow derby of the campaign, a match in which the champions know a win will push them 12 points clear at the Premiership summit with only seven games to go.

Walsh was the man with the whistle at the same venue in September when the hosts won 4-0 with a double from Liel Abada and singles from Filipe Jota, with a spectacular solo run and chip over the keeper, and David Turnbull, with an opportunist effort following a mishit clearance by netminder Jon McLaughlin.

John Beaton officiated in the 2-2 draw at Ibrox on January 2 where the visitors were denied a stick-on penalty-kick after Connor Goldson batted away a Cark Starfelt shot with both hands. The Hoops marksmen were Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi.

And Walsh was in the middle in February when the holders beat Michael Beale’s side 2-1 with a couple of strikes from Kyogo to lift the League Cup at Hampden.

David McGeachie and Ross Macleod will be Clancy’s assistants while Walsh will be helped by Daniel McFarlane.
