MIDNIGHT DEADLINE: KENNY IN, NTCHAM OUT, NO-GO OKO-FLEX

CELTIC left it late to make Everton right-back Jonjoe Kenny their only signing of the January window.

The Goodison defender agreed a loan switch until the end of the season to come in as a short-term replacement for £11.5million Jeremie Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen and could make his debut against Kilmarnock tomorrow night, as CQN reported.

The deal was completed just a couple of hours before the midnight deadline and Neil Lennon, speaking to Sky Sports News, said: “He’s a player I have liked for a while. He had a very good career at England Under-21 level and I watched quite a bit of him last season when he was on loan at Schalke.

‘I like his qualities, his enthusiasm for the game, his character and I think he will bring that to the team. He is a bubbly sort of personality and he plays that way as well.”

As Kenny comes in, Olivier Ntcham goes out in the direction of Marseille on loan until the end of the campaign. The French outfit have the option to buy the midfielder for £4.5million – the same fee that took him to Glasgow from Manchester City in the summer of 2017.

Newcastle were out of luck in their pursuit of the 24-year-old, who is entering the final 18 months of his contract.

The player has made only seven league starts this season and Lennon said: “I think he is looking for a fresh start to progress his career elsewhere and he has made that clear over a period of time.”

The Hoops gaffer is also understood to have rejected loan offers for defender Stephen Welsh.

Armstrong Oko-Flex’s proposed move to Huddersfield fell through when the Yorkshire outfit dropped their interest in the former Arsenal prospect who is out of contract in June.

Liam Hughes, the club’s former Under-18 goalkeeper, has joined Liverpool.

Former Hoops fans’ favourite Patrick Roberts has agreed a switch to Derby County from Manchester City after spending the first half of the season at Middlesbrough.
