Midtjylland look as ill prepared as Celtic

291

After two preseason games we have Bristol City tomorrow, Preston North End on Saturday before Midtjylland in Champions League qualification one week today.  Midtjylland have played one more game then us since their return to training last month and start their league campaign on Friday evening.

Our only consolation is the Danes look as ill prepared for a fixture of this magnitude as we are.  There are only two group stage places available in the non-champions route of the tournament; you would be forgiven for thinking this possibility was not worth hoping for, but we are in strange times.

By ranking, those two places are earmarked for Benfica and Shakhtar Donetsk.  Shakhtar have not played a competitive game since March and Benfica’s only competitive game in that period was a cup final in May (they lost).  The Euros is another complication for preseason regimes.

There is a clear opportunity for a well-prepared team to punch above their weight in these qualifiers.  Ange has a lot of work to do if he’s to take advantage.  We will learn more against Midtjylland.

For me, it’s a no-brainer. We go with players who want to be here…..last season was a brutal lesson in what can happen if you do the opposite.

You are timely in reminding us of the concentration of propaganda influence in the hands of the rich and powerful.

I think you distort their priorities by suggesting they are avid pro-union voices. That is just a temporary by-product of their main influence.

If they felt they could make more money and be more influential with Scotland being Independent, they would tack80 deg rees and promote that mesage tomorrow.

More likely is that if Scotland became “Independent”, they would buy up all the propaganda outlets here for a small price.

Changing the border does not make you immune from global feral capitalism or its new variants, Russian and Chinese State Capitalism.

Workers have always found that they could only strengthen their influence by forming Unions, not breaking them up.

More optimistic noises on the signing front, it seems – will be good to have a 6 foot tall Swede in the back row.

Good to have Lawwell still involved on the European front but I do hope his influence on day-to-day operations is a thing of the past – leave that to McKay, Ange and whoever they bring in.

McJay – I never knew him, but certainly did read some of the discussions he had with others.

May he rest in peace. Always sad to lose a fellow Celtic supporter – and infinitely more sad for his family and all who knew him.

I hope that you BOTH know that you most welcome to join a few of us this Friday in my local Pub on The Saltmarket for a small refreshment.

The kick off is around 2pm.

Let me know IF either/both of you intend to appear, so that I can give numbers to my pub landlord again ?

I realise that ill health and/or work commitments may prevent either of you attending, but I hope thats not the case.

Great to see Lawwell remains a Director of the PLC. Who could’ve predicted? Still, we see his influence in the cautious (cough) transfer policy this close season (if you ignore the mass exodus since last season), with Dudu coining it in again with a player in a position we actually have players for.

The justification for Pistol’s continuing Directorship is his invaluable influence at ECA. No, seriously!

I’m sure you’ll all join me in hoping Peter is well remunerated for his valuable time in Board meetings. How else would you want your SB money spent? New players you say? Not what ‘well run clubs’ do.

  19. The questions about who was identifying players and carrying out negotiations on player acquisitions in the absence of a DoF and Head of recruitment seem to have been answered with this morning’s confirmation that our former CEO remains a director at the Club.

Kennedy, Strachan and Lawwell remain on the stage. It seems like something out of animal farm…
