Midweek change for Celtic

Busy article today, watch out for notes at the bottom on:

Magners ticket competition for 27 December
Mary’s Meals Malawi school kitchen appeal
CQN Annual, final few posting days before…..
CQN Christmas Raffle – winners have been drawn

One of the resources Ronny Deila has been short of since taking over is training days.  Players have stamina, fitness and speed training work to do every week, while there’s rest time before and after games, so time to work on technical aspects are a premium.

Believe it or not, this is the first midweek Celtic haven’t had a game, or players away on international duty, since the second week of July.  The manager has spoken of how difficult it has been to carry out the extensive tactical changes he has introduced spending only stolen minutes working on them.  The January break will give him another opportunity to spend hours with the players on tactical work.

Apparently newco are keeping McCoist as some kind of blubber human shield for Monday’s AGM!  Nice one.  There’s nothing degrading about that, very classy in fact.  Really disappointed for Ally, I’m sure he could almost taste the £400k he’s counting on – to go quietly.  Let’s hope he puts on a show on Monday and they sort him out thereafter.

It’s almost worth buying a newco share to get along on Monday.  Almost.

It’s been a while since I’ve paid any attention to the man who’s apparently lined-up to replace McCoist next week, Billy Davies.  After his interesting second stint at Nottingham Forest ended earlier this year, The Guardian wrote:

“[Davies] has paid the price for failing to control a personality which latterly seemed to have crossed the border into downright paranoia.

“[He] could never quite escape his self-destructive insecurities.”

It’s not often you read a national newspaper liberally speculating on the mental health, or lack thereof, of an individual.

Failing to control his personality, downright paranoia, self-destructive insecurities!  He’s perfect.  Is there a job in the land this guy is more suited for than newco’s manager?

Our pals at Magners have kindly offered a pair of premium seat tickets to the Jock Stein Stand at the home game on 27 December in support of our Mary’s Meals appeal.  You can win the tickets by email me at celticquicknews@gmail.com the answer to the question:

Who do Celtic play on 27 December?

Competition closes at 22:00 tonight (Thursday) so get your entry in.

If you’re entering the competition please consider donating £1 to Mary’s Meals here, where we are hoping to build a kitchen at a school in Chibwata, Dowa, Malawi, for their 909 children.

I’d a look at John Guidetti’s interview with Magners this week, he looks like he’s enjoying himself……..

We’ve drawn the CQN Christmas Raffle, winner of the Special Whisky and CQN Package is ticket number 976, from a lucky reader based in Lythm, we’ll be in touch.

The four runners up all win CQN Packages with ticket numbers 1072, 974, 1190 and 1051, check your tickets, we’ll be in touch soon.

Still time to order your 2015 CQN Annual for Christmas.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – oh, and there’s tons of photos, fresh stories and comment on the first time Inter faced the green and white hoops.

  1. the glorious balance sheet –

That makes no sense. You are criticising CQN for allowing Joe Miller to sell merchandise a week or so before he went on to SSB and talked of needing Rangers in the SPL.

How were Paul and Winning Captains expected to know what Joe was going to say on the radio a week into the future?

And even if by some miracle they did know, are you seriously suggesting that is grounds for telling him to take a hike? Have we really come to this?

Maybe Paul and WC should tie all prospective associates to a chair and interrogate them about their thoughts on Sevco before they are allowed the time of day.

So Joe Miller says we need a strong Sevco. My God. Pull out his finger nails. Tie him to the railway track. Skin him alive. Hanging’s too good for these feckers.

I disagree with Joe Miller on this but hey, I can live with it.

  2. Just logged on again after eating to see my comment re LG being in the development squad tonight- I considered an insult – being shot down by a few very reasonable and measured comments from others using the perspectives they held.

Ah, the joys of being a Celtic man. We are a broad church; there are no right or wrong answers; only opinions.

Expressed honestly they are a delight to read.

For those who did not agree -respect. For those who agree with me the same respect.

    Hail, hail, Celtic.

  3. Im still waiting for the first EXPLAYER..to come out and say ” the huns are deid, and thank Fk…coz they cheated us for years”….as Dianna Ross sang….still waiting…

  4. Lennon’s Passion

    Straightforward.

Celtic don’t depend on there being an RFC in Scotland but other clubs did and possibly still do.

I say possibly as since RFC ‘ S absence they are learning to live without them.

So its not that Celtic need TRFC that drives things, as seem to be the mind of accusers, but that other clubs thought so and without those other clubs there is no league to play in. Those other clubs can out vote Celtic if they want to hold on to TRFC.

Time some folk got real about the interdependent nature of Scottish football.

    Agree with that,mate.

At this rate,we’re gonna end up wi a CQN version of the FF banned list, comprising every former Celt who has spoken against the prevailing opinion on here.

  6. I love the fact we won the big cup.

Before my time but I’m proud as punch.

Now that most of the lions say they miss the rivalry against them and play down their demise should I now stop celebrating the events of 1967?

So stefan reckons Griffo has the worst chat and worst dress sense and he can’t understand a word he (Griffo) says.

    Confirms he’s a 100% Edinburgher then!

    ‘Joe-kane’ (tr joking) Embramike!

You know I love you(s) and your fine city!!!

PS SJ hilariously coy about last question. ‘Who’s the longest in the shower?’ Think he thought it referred to willie length rather than time spent shampooing their hair!!!!

Now don’t you be bring common sense into the argument :-)

Have you not learned by now that Dermot Desmond and his minions are, as we speak, deep within their hollowed out volcano lair underneath Celtic Park plotting the latest diabolical scheme to fast track Sevco Scotland Ltd’s works team “back” into the SPFL.

  11. Geordie munro…stop celebrating the actual event…no..why should you….the men involved and their silence on the question of sevco and their demise….of course you should question it….

  12. Owen

Do you remember DD’s comments about ‘Rangers’ being a fantastic club and how he looked forward to playing them again?

Aff oot. To Holby City with mrs JG.

  14. the glorious balance sheet

Where do I start with those comments?

You never heard Joe say something, you’ve been told he said it though.

Joe did us a favour a wee while ago along with Willie McStay when he came to do a Q&A at Greenock CSC. The night was funded by CQN “merchandise” and 100% of the income from the night went to the local foodbank.

I mentioned earlier that Celticrollercoaster has acquired a CQN Enigma machine so he could select the raffle winners fairly. Maybe you have an even better trick up your sleeve -the CQN Crystal Ball?

We could have been doing with it that night in Greenock when Willie McStay, Joe Miller and Alex Gordon spoke really well and informed and entertained the Celtic supporters in attendance. We could have said, look Joe you were great tonight but if we book you for a book signing in Stirling in a fortnight you will say something on the radio that someone won’t hear directly but will have it relayed to him some two weeks after the signing and we’ll have to brand you a soup taker.

Even if he was how could we know he’d say this a month in the future? Ludicrous argument…

Incidentally we are working with Joe in his role in the Former Players Association. There are former Celtic players who aren’t as high profile as guys like Joe and he is trying to do something to help the ones he knows have hit hard times in their later years.

johann murdoch – big Yogi apart ALL the Lisbon Lions I have spoken to think that. Players want big games. It isn’t the way most of us see it – the raffle mentioned above is related to the advertisement which will appear in The Sunday Herald on 25th January. I have had to go through so many hurdles to get this agreed – most people thought it doubtful but we got there. The posts on here – which contained my email address – were plastered over their forums and the correspondence I received as a result was colourful.

  15. Tiny Tim

What I took from Paul’s point re training time was that we had a lot of midweek games and international matches with heavy call-ups from our club and this was disrupting training continuity.

There would be no point in doubling up the training programme if you are having to allow recovery from a Sun-Thu-Sun or Sat-Wed-Sat match play burden. He should have plenty of time with the Europa League out of the way for a while to work with the squad now.

Now, the problem will be training getting frozen off and squad disruption caused by the January window until we can get back to using the Europa League excuse :-)

  16. Jamesgang,

The questions are nicked from soccer am and they mean longest as in loooongest. :))

I’m in and oot quicker than Duncan Goodhew :)

  17. Good late evening friends. It’s dark. I have about 30 minutes. I’ll start from page 6….

ps I was ages in the shower there ;-)

  18. Winning captains comment saying all players want big games is right…..they see things as players…first and foremost…they are players who played .. for Celtic..

  19. Hamiltontim

have you ever been at a funeral and been approached by someone and they say something like “Terrible shame about X he will be sorely missed” do you answer truthfully that “I am glad he is gone, he was a cheating, lying thief and reprobate”, or do you mumble some platitudes and go looking for the sausage rolls and beer. Dermot Desmond was buttonholed at a golf event and came out with that crap on camera.

  20. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    OWEN

Golf event or not,he’d have to be arseholed to say that in public!

  21. Hamilton Tim

Regardless of DD’S comments, if other clubs feel a financial dependency on TRFC that is the everyday real politik of Scottish football.

In that respect DD’s views are irrelevant.

However I think DD knows the real politik and what he says is for public consumption and not an indicator of what drives Celtic, which is having a league to play in. That has to come first.

  22. HT,

I don’t agree with DD but I’m pretty sure he didn’t say he looked forward to playing them again.

Unhappy to be corrected though ;)

  23. Hamilton Tim

The last charge I would have laid against you was naivety.

You really think DD a multi millionaire is that naive?

What he says and what he thinks do not necessarily converge.

  24. Aul’heid

    I’d concur with that.

DD is a shrewd businessman and quite capable of saying one thing to a partial media and quite another behind closed doors.

    HH.

  25. I cant stand the sychopantic love of explayers. They are ex pro footballers who played for Celtic…thats all…stay in the here and now..say thanks for their efforts , remember them.move on…somebody once said” never meet your hero”s…i agree with that…they are men…like us…they will dissapoint….

  26. johann murdoch/ Glorious balance sheet

High-time listeners understand who controls output of SSB.

Lorraine H is an aficionado of the triumvirate; Ashley, Green and Ahmad and this goes back to the early days of Sevco.

Hence the party line and the contracts!!

  27. auldheid

I’m not looking at it in any other way than taking the man at his word.

The Irishman said: “Rangers are a fantastic club with a great history. They will, in not too long a time, be back in the SPL. I have no doubt about that.

“And they’re needed for Scottish football because of their following, the size of the club and especially their history. We certainly would like to contest with them every week.”
