Migration is beneficial. Even in football

310

If Gary Mackay-Steven moves from Celtic to Aberdeen he will be the third creative midfield player to transfer between the clubs this window. Ryan Christie’s loan to Aberdeen was extended for this season. Jonny Hayes move to Celtic created a vacancy on Aberdeen’s right, and in doing so moved Mackay-Steven down the Celtic pecking order. On paper the move north would be great for the Celtic winger.

This is not quite the top two clubs collaborating on squad management, but it’s as close as you are likely to get. Aberdeen would have preferred to keep Hayes, but with money on the table for a player running down his contract he was sold to the highest bidder: Celtic.

Christie was brought to Celtic by Ronny Deila as a development project. Openings for the creative mid slots at Celtic are incredibly competitive. The risk to Christie is that his development, which was purring along nicely at Inverness, stalls in the Celtic stands. It is in Celtic’s and his best interests that the he plays regularly in an attacking team.

Mackay-Steven has a glorious first few weeks at Celtic but has been hampered by the perennial burden of wingers: consistency. His confidence appears shot. If he moved to Pittodrie, Derek McInnes may be able to get the best out of him.

There’s an empirically established economic fact: migration is economically beneficial for both the gaining and losing nations. This summer’s proposed migration between Celtic and Aberdeen is likely to fall into this category.

  1. GMS is never the type of player who will improve the team enough for Europe.I like the boy,but BR has seen enough to make the decision. He will not start in BRs teams,so what is the point of the boy sitting in the stands.

The very best of luck to him at the Dons.I think he will be assured of a start there in many games, and will do well for themSame with Ryan. You need to be in the firing line most weeks to improve.

  11. Was talking to a couple of young Chelsea under 20 players here at their summer camp in Murcia. It’s their pal who is on trial at Lennoxtown. They were very complimentary about the pal and thought Celtic was a great opportunity for him. They did stress he was only on trial. Just thought it was interesting

I was very surprised when we signed GMS, unlike his pal Stuart Armstrong, I never thought Gary was good enough for Celtic. Would seem that Brendan doesn’t see a future for GMS at Celtic. Hope the lad gets a good move and thrives in his new environment.

Got to wonder why GMS is considered no good enough, while a player the manager already said is no good enough for a first team place is brought in.

  16. Looking at the Bonfire today in the papers, built on Sandy Row,just gives you an idea of the mindset of these cretins.Last year, many houses in the area, had their roofs set alight by flaming embers from this monstrosity, yet again, this year it gets the go ahead. Not sure of the exact distance to the houses and flats this years is,it looks very close, the heat would be tremendous,so you would think the Fire Services,Health And Safety,in fact anyone with a brain would say,”Build this on open ground somewhere”,but no.

They all have the same moronic mindset.Who in their right minds would allow this to be set alight, about 30 metres from housing?.But they are”The Peepil”.Its their Kulchur to burn down their own houses.

  17. Always Loads of talk on here regards what we must , should , and want to happen to the cheats . Is anyone actually doing something to right the wrong , is any of our high heed yins going to take any action , is the governing body of European football , you know the ones who take note of a complaint from a norn Ireland bigot of a bigot club about a flare being set off , and who then jump into action . UEFA who have acted on the waiving of flags , of singing of songs , but yet have not lifted one finger to look into the crimes , cheating , of a Scottish football club , cheating that has been found proven by the highest court in the land . Review I hear you say , inquiry , the result of the inquiry was delivered last week . That lot at hampden HQ should hav been stood down after the sc decision was announced last week . Their jobs advertised and interviews held to get fair honest minded men who have a passion for the game installed . No way are Reagan , Doncaster , Bryson ,et al going to sentence themselves , but they must not be allowed to get off scot free . They have made Scottish football a laughing stock . I would also like to see a panel consisting of delegates from other nations briefed on the goings on , and let the independent panel decide the outcome , we will never get justice if there is a Scottish or norn Ireland influence in any proceedings connected with this affair . Get them weeded out , and give us our game back . HH

  19. Hi Paul67,

Think this has been a good bit of Business…

Both Teams Benefit, Scottish Football Benefits.

GMS is a good player, initially did very well for us, however we are looking at a different calibre of player these days. Which is good news for us and good news for Aberdeen.

We need other Clubs to raise their levels and ambitions. Think we will see a Resurgent Hibs this Season and I hope Hearts get their act together, they fell badly away after Neilsen left.

Scottish Football needs a Strong Edinburgh.

    Good luck to GMS…

Saw the news about the bonfires last night …. makes my blood boil

I know there was some talk on here about crowdfunding a judicial review this week …. for me, if we are going to crowdfund something, it would be a rental of one of those firefighting planes that drops water on forest fires … probably would work equally well on bonfires, I would imagine..

    Timaloy29,

BR told Hayes he wasn’t good enough for the Celtic first team.

Now he is, me, I’d have GMS before Hayes every time.

  22. I had high hopes for GMS when he signed for us. A naturally skillful player I thought would flourish at Celtic. Sadly after showing initial promise, his confidence seemed to ebb away. He wasn’t the only one. The last season under Ronny many players suffered the same, even Broonie, who’s as hard headed as they come.

Injuries have hampered him since BR took over. I wish him all the best, if i had a chance to advise him I’d say, go south young man you will get little protection from referees in Scotland.

The problem is, GMS falls short in nearly all technical aspects of his game. Hayes has a better shot, is a very good crosser of the ball and useful at set pieces.

Fine lines you might say but if I’m a striker I’d rather see Hayes out wide supplying the ammo than GMS, for the above reasons.

Exactly. The same UEFA,who, after the Manchester riots, said”Their is nothing we can do,as it happened outwith the stadium”.Off Scot free.Any cheating,in any other sport is dealt with by the ruling body. The Olympics committee are the ones who strip the titles for cheating.I am sure it was the head honchos of the Cycling who punished Armstrong. To say that the biggest cheating scandal to have hit British football, should be handled by a two bit org like the SFa,or SPFL,who themselves are highly conflicted,is a shameful way for UEFA to wash its hands. It took the FBI to bring down FIFA.This mob need something similar.

A Judicial review would really stir up the Hornets nest. This is what is needed.
