Migration is beneficial. Even in football

310

If Gary Mackay-Steven moves from Celtic to Aberdeen he will be the third creative midfield player to transfer between the clubs this window. Ryan Christie’s loan to Aberdeen was extended for this season. Jonny Hayes move to Celtic created a vacancy on Aberdeen’s right, and in doing so moved Mackay-Steven down the Celtic pecking order. On paper the move north would be great for the Celtic winger.

This is not quite the top two clubs collaborating on squad management, but it’s as close as you are likely to get. Aberdeen would have preferred to keep Hayes, but with money on the table for a player running down his contract he was sold to the highest bidder: Celtic.

Christie was brought to Celtic by Ronny Deila as a development project. Openings for the creative mid slots at Celtic are incredibly competitive. The risk to Christie is that his development, which was purring along nicely at Inverness, stalls in the Celtic stands. It is in Celtic’s and his best interests that the he plays regularly in an attacking team.

Mackay-Steven has a glorious first few weeks at Celtic but has been hampered by the perennial burden of wingers: consistency. His confidence appears shot. If he moved to Pittodrie, Derek McInnes may be able to get the best out of him.

There’s an empirically established economic fact: migration is economically beneficial for both the gaining and losing nations. This summer’s proposed migration between Celtic and Aberdeen is likely to fall into this category.

    Trad88,

GMS carried us for about 6 games under RD and won MotM every one then injury hit and he was out.

Hayes played for Aberdeen that season and done nothing to improve them as he done this season.

Your opinion of GMS is yours and long held I doubt there was anything he could do to convince you otherwise, a bit like the sammi treatment. And that’s why we love the game, cause it’s about opinions, and there is no right or wrong only opinion.

I think carried us is an overstatement but anyway 6 games is nowhere near enough evidence on which to base a solid judgement of a player.

Injury hit Simunovic too, but he has overcome the doubts about his fitness to show he IS good enough and that is why he has flourished in the team.

You’re right, all about opinions, we all want whats best for the team. But still no one has pointed out the technical aspects of GMS game that make him worth keeping, and that for me is telling.

Nice guy but not strong enough technically, and physically, for Celtic.

  3. Again,on the Bonfires.I have just seen one with a huge banner put on for burning, hurling racial abuse at Scott Sinclair.

    Despicable scum of the earth.

One good thing,it shows how much Scott is getting to them.

  4. GMS had great potential both going forward and tracking back.

Maybe he’s seen as being to slight for BR.

Hayes provides good service going forward and tracking back too.

I think on his day GMS is better.

But it’s not about a day here or a day there, it’s about who can offer more on a consistent fashion.

For me Hayes wins that battle.

Listening to Nolan show on BBC radio Ulster this morning and Nolan was interviewing ‘bonfire builders’ in the east of the city, inversely to be precise. When they were(bonfire thingies) told about the dangers of the size and close proximity of bonfire to local homes, this joker, and I kid you not, said in a loud shrill,’MY HOUSE IS INSURED’.The Nolan show airs between 9 and 10.30 worth a listen to.Their schoolteachers must have put in a hard shift with this lot!!!!!!

As for the SFA keep n mind they are a founder member of the IFAB the laws makers of football.

A wee point I’ve been trying to impress on the res12 team for while, this is a very powerful body who have been protecting their own interests for over 100 years and continue to exist even with FIFA and UEFA both subordinates.

In my post@ 3.01 the bonfire site should read Inverary,it is located in public playing fields, paid for and maintained by taxpayers money.Only here….Only here.

  9. Why is the Linfield away game not live on Celtic TV for viewers in Scotland? Get it sorted!

They are nothing but a self serving clique who want to do well out of football for themselves, no one else. I also think that organisation is an obstacle for the World Cup coming to these shores. If they wont disband that to host the World Cup they must be getting much more out of the game.

    Dessybhoy,

Think about how many Scottish administrators get fast tracked into UEFA and FIFA positions, a nonentity of a league administration wise yet disproportionately represented..

  12. TimJim – Went to Benidorm yesterday for a visit from our base in El Campello, came across one Hun with dead club crest on his breast and K.B. on his horse on his back, the ambience of our meal was only stopped momentarily, silly silly people :))

We can’t wait for any executive to take action, it’s not going to happen, this needs to be either a criminal investigation through the organised crime/fraud/city police or a civil case funded by supporters however a civil case will not produce the results the game needs.

  14. Canamalar

Mind that time former SFA President and former FIFA Vice-President John McBeth had the cheek to say he’d count his fingers after shaking hands with some other FIFA personalities?

  15. Canamalar

As BRTH told me civil cases can lead to criminal cases, the supporters should not have to fight for this clubs and if we had a free media should be doing it. In the absence of them fans will need to .

  16. Good luck to GMS wherever he ends up.

A young gentleman, who plays with with smile on his face. Perhaps to much of a gentleman.

I disagree on the lack of ability. He has it in spades.

I’ve always thought all he needed was to find a portion of Glesga gallus in him to bring him up to the required level.

  17. There is enough evidence out there in the public domain, let alone what we don’t know about to put minty and a fair few others in jail, yet there will be nothing done.

It’s more than the football powers that need cleansed, hun scum ra lot of them.

    Dessybhoy,

Youdathunk with all the hard evidence dug up for the tax inquiries and legal cases a criminal investigation would already be under way, this is organised crime territory and maybe there is an ongoing investigation we don’t know. But it’s best to be sure and a complaint needs to be made. I expect this can be done by an individual or a group by presenting evidence of which there is plenty. Point being why, consider a costly civil case if a criminal investigation can be initiated for nothing.

  22. May I take this opportunity to thank all those who last week expressed sympathy and offered prayers for my sister-in-law? I read them all and passed on the sentiments to my brother who was very appreciative that people whom he didn’t know, would be so kind. But then again this is the way of Celtic supporters.

I think we’re too nice. GMS is a nice guy, I get that. He works hard. But no one has outlined what we are losing technically by letting him go.

I’ll lay it out – his passing, crossing, finishing, set pieces, heading, strength, dribbling, tackling are not good enough for Celtic.

If he had two or three of the above at the required level, he may just have maintained a place in the squad.

Thats not to say hes a bad player, just that he falls a bit short for Celtic.

I find it amazing that we continue to ramp up the general level of the squad under a serious manager and some fans still find a way to moan about it!

    We can’t keep everbody.

  24. WHY OH WHY am I seeing the Queen feeding corgis behind the text on CQN?

Is this some sort of subtle, subliminal 12th celebration?

  25. On GMS – love the guy. Remember watching him in warm ups and thinking he absolutely loved being at Celtic park. Always smiling – looked like he’d won the lottery! He kind of had!

Decent player on his day but we need players whose day is most of the time not some of it. There are fine margins at the top of any sport. The guy that comes last in the qualifiers at the 100 metre sprint in the olympics is still a fantastically quick runner – pro footballers are all good at what they do. But to progres(s) you have to look for more of the guys that are that bit better than what we have and for Gary himself he will be better shining in a good team than looking like he’s struggling in a great one.

    Good luck to him
