Migration is beneficial. Even in football

If Gary Mackay-Steven moves from Celtic to Aberdeen he will be the third creative midfield player to transfer between the clubs this window. Ryan Christie’s loan to Aberdeen was extended for this season. Jonny Hayes move to Celtic created a vacancy on Aberdeen’s right, and in doing so moved Mackay-Steven down the Celtic pecking order. On paper the move north would be great for the Celtic winger.

This is not quite the top two clubs collaborating on squad management, but it’s as close as you are likely to get. Aberdeen would have preferred to keep Hayes, but with money on the table for a player running down his contract he was sold to the highest bidder: Celtic.

Christie was brought to Celtic by Ronny Deila as a development project. Openings for the creative mid slots at Celtic are incredibly competitive. The risk to Christie is that his development, which was purring along nicely at Inverness, stalls in the Celtic stands. It is in Celtic’s and his best interests that the he plays regularly in an attacking team.

Mackay-Steven has a glorious first few weeks at Celtic but has been hampered by the perennial burden of wingers: consistency. His confidence appears shot. If he moved to Pittodrie, Derek McInnes may be able to get the best out of him.

There’s an empirically established economic fact: migration is economically beneficial for both the gaining and losing nations. This summer’s proposed migration between Celtic and Aberdeen is likely to fall into this category.

  1. In all the hype about our game against Linfield, have I missed any member of the media – UK or SMSM – enquiring of Linfield, their reaction to the racism being displayed in Belfast towards Celtic and a Celtic player during recent events?

We hear their manager talking about Linfield ‘flying the flag for Rangers’, we hear their chairman bemoaning the fact that Celtic refused tickets, claiming ‘Celtic fans would have been welcomed’

Whilst not directly connected to Linfield specifically, the fact that racist banners featuring Celtic players are being burned on bonfires in the city where Linfield play – a couple of days before the play Celtic – surely is worthy of some comment from Linfield?

Linfield should be given the opportunity to condemn these actions so the question should be posed to them.

    TTT,

    Trad88,

Technical ability is there although you appear to either miss or ignore it.

Positional play is excellent, passing and crossing ability as good if not better than most, I’m sure our new stato provided a set of stats during his only decent run of games under RD that showed him to be more effective in the limited game time he had than the regulars he replaced. Now I expected no less than condescending dismissal of his six game run in which he carried the team because your opinion of him will not allow you to be objective, of that six game run he won MotM I’m sure it was at least four times. You tell us that’s not enough to determine that he’s good enough but it’s plenty for you to make up your mind he’s no good enough, that betrays a closed mind and informs that it’s pointless discussing GMS with you any further.

    ==========

I’m basing my opinion on more than 6 games – if you want to be consistent why not pick Efe Ambroses 6 best games and say on that basis we should definitely have kept him at the club too?! Or Nadir Ciftci has a couple of good youtube compilations showing a number of goals, clearly Brendan has got it wrong there too I suppose?!

Btw, GMS hasnt the power or presence to ‘carry us’.

On the technical ability, he hasnt the ‘cultured’ left foot that would have kept him at CP. You’ll see Hayes taking set pieces and whipping real quality crosses in from threatening positions. He’s also a slightly better dribbler(less likely to get pushed off the ball), a better finisher and far more direct than GMS.

The reasons for GMS being allowed to leave are footballing reasons and him being a good guy and decent player are not strong enough reasons to keep him.

We have a manager that is raising standards at the club, embrace it.

  5. They are in a real paranoid state over in FF. More worried about title stripping their old team than the fact that they were fecked out of Europe by a pub team from Luxembourg. Silly Billys F.K.B.

Should the club investigate ‘nuclear’ option of resigning from Scottish Football?

Bear with me as I know this is a highly unlikely scenario…also it is not my intention for this thread to turn into a tit for tat about being accepted into English football or an ‘Atlantic League’, as that’s been done to death before and I agree both have very little chance of happening as things currently stand.

But my question is, would it be prudent of the club to investigate the feasibility of resigning from Scottish football?

A card that should only be played as a last resort, in the unlikely event (but certainly not impossible in this bitter little hole) that the Rangers haters got their way and the SPFL actually decided to strip titles.

It would be a massive risk to take as we could end up in limbo for a few seasons having nowhere to play. However in the short term I reckon we could easily make more money playing glamour friendlies around the world than playing in Scottish football and the Europa League. But then the ‘novelty’ would wear thin and in the longer term it would probably end up killing the club if we couldn’t get accepted into another league (England being the only realistic option).

We would certainly need to set the narrative and convince UEFA, FIFA, Court of Arbitration for Sport, the English FA, that we had been harshly treated and no longer feel welcome in our domestic league (e.g. Derry City scenario as mentioned on other threads). At the very least these bodies would need to take a neutral stance, as if any of them sided with the SPFL it would be a complete non-starter.

It’s a tough one to call but I say yes, we should prepare for all eventualities and at least investigate its feasibility. They try to ruin us then we should try to ruin them.
