Mikey, Moh and converting talent

414

I could not make sense of why we signed Mohamed Elyounoussi on loan from Southampton in the last days of the 2019 summer transfer window.  He played in Mikey Johnston’s position, a prospect I had great hopes for.  Just days later, Mikey was a star at Ibrox, winning possession (albeit without much difficulty) and setting up Odsonne Edouard for the opening goal.

Mohamed proved to be an important part of yet another treble in our second nine-in-a-row season, whereas the Celtic coaches saw gaps in Mikey’s play I had missed.

It has been five years since Mikey made his debut, so long, perhaps, that we have lost sight of the fact he is only 23 and missed much of the intervening period through injury.  Jota we more readily think of as young, although the Portuguese is three weeks older.

I’m not prepared to write Mikey off.  He has an ability to switch left-to-right and back better than anyone else in the squad at the moment (including Jota).  His battles with form and end product have been common among wingers for decades and are not fatal to a successful career.

With three years left on his contract, he needs regular football and encouragement.  Celtic have to learn how to convert this level of natural talent into a successful career, even if it means sending them out for a period.

Yes, it was at the farm and I had my black Labrador Max with me. He died on 2nd January and we miss him so much.

But, 3 weeks ago we got Maple who is now an 11 week old working cocker spaniel. She gets her final vaccinations tomorrow and will be out walking by next Friday so a new chapter is beginning.

I intend to make some money from her by hiring her out to Celtic for next year’s pre-season training. There will be no need for expensive foreign trips to get fit if the players need to look after her for a few weeks.

A very pleasant blog tonight, thanks to WEEFRATIM. This is what the blog is all about. All welcome. Apart from the Garngad ruffians. 😂

  4. Mickey Johnston will NEVER make it at Celtic .

He lacks physique, pace , decision making , composure , and has a very poor ability to find a final ball or the back of the net consistently.

You can’t coach vision and bottle.

    Time to go .

Indeed Jim they don’t last for ever. I had to put our old cat (23) to sleep two weeks ago. Afraid I’m too old to be taking a new animal on now. I have a rescue Jack Russell terrier who was being used as a bait dog for a dog fighting ring. He was like jelly when we got him. He’s been here 4years now and he’s 6 year old. Thankfully my daughter has a JRT bitch, so you can guess where he’s going when my clogs pop. Lol. HH

    Re Sligo v Motherwell:

Watched both games and Sligo gave a good account of themselves. They defended well and three goals over the tie was a just reward for all their effort.

  9. Are Sligo mid season or still in pre season.

Obviously no excuses for a team like Motherwell losing so convincingly but maybe some mitigation.

Both Sligo and Motherwell played at a very slow tempo.

They both lacked technical ability .

Sligo will go out in the next round .

Alexander will not last in his job .

This is the worst Motherwell side I have seen in decades.

They will fight relegation if Alexander stays as manager .

    ““““““““““““““““““““““““`

Has your hero Phil written any articles about Celtic PLC’s sleekit retention of Old Firm ticket prices since the Same Club Lie priced fixtures were rebooted in 2016?

Until he does then he’s just like all of the other fakes right?

Looks like he’s in on the ticket switcheroo doesn’t it?

Or, maybe he could skip his PLC pals and tell us all how dim the Tims really are to have bought these tickets which rubber stamp the SCL?

    His silence is deafening!

    Don’t you think?

Maybe he miscalculated and thought that “ALL” Tims are equally dim?

But there’s always one who refuses to be sheared isn’t there? Aha.

Do you think the PLC brazenly and successfully stuffed Timmy in 2016 with their deceitful Old Firm ticket prices trick/trap fully in the knowledge that the hated Celtic historian, Gerald McNee, no longer has a thorn stuck into the PLC’s side?

After all, only Gerald McNee would’ve called this out, right?

Just look at the tsunami of corruption in Scotland since the hated Celtic historian, Gerald McNee retired in 2008, with Celtic PLC bang right in the middle of it.

I won’t itemize the tsunami of corruption for you because it would be like asking for the thoughts of a dug drinking oota puddle.

Take a tablet before you reply. 😉

Some pictures on follow follow showing some of the old rangers worthies as apparently the club would have been 150 years old had they not run it into the ground.

All the culprits there including Martin Bain, David Holmes, Campbell Ogilvie and many more. Especially fetching is the lady Provost in her orange / tangerine blouse. Well worth a look at the rogues gallery on follow follow.
