Milne’s prompt for Aberdeen fans

522

A few points about Stewart Milne’s comments this week. Immediately after the Court of Session overturned the earlier rulings on Rangers EBTs, putting the issue of sporting advantage in the spotlight, I noted that it would be the clubs who would decide if this matter would be looked at again, and that if Celtic were unable to gain support from a number of clubs, the issue was dead in the water.

The conversation has been parked until after BDO hear about their application to appeal to the Supreme Court but the issue remains active. Celtic are not alone on this matter, but as you hear from Milne, everyone is not on the same page.

I was a bit surprised Milne spoke openly on the issue but this needed to come out. Just as the SPFL’s decision to act or not is in the hands of the clubs, Aberdeen’s stance on the matter is ultimately in the hands of their supporters. If they care enough about the issue, they must express this view to Milne as clearly as they did in 2012, when they changed his plans on an earlier matter.

Milne’s comments about Scottish football’s position relative to the game in England were among the most futile ever uttered. He is one of the few people in a position to work for change. Aberdeen have more going for them than Swansea – a smaller club based outside England who earn over £100m from Premier League TV rights each season.

No wonder we’re outside the party when one of the men in charge has only just recognised a party exists.

Many thanks to all who donated to our Mary’s Meals appeal yesterday. The generosity of one or two of you blew me away. If you entered the Magners’ ticket competition, check your email this afternoon, as the winner will be notified shortly.

There’s still time to order a book or DVD from CQN Bookstore. Take a look at what’s on offer.

  1. SFTB … your memory is correct, I believe. I accept and understand that that may not be the ‘red line’ for you, but, given everything else that has happened (or not happened as the case may be), I would not agree that anything related to this issue can be dismissed as ‘frivolous nonsense’. when the club says so little, every little word carries great weight.

plus, you add up all these ‘little things’ … and eventually you have a bit thing.

I used to think Toronto FC was the business school case for how a prosperous football franchise could best piss off and alienate its fan base, but I have to day Celtic’s board are giving them a run for their money. Leaving aside the issue of whether the board know anything about running a football club (as opposed to any other business), it is generally bad business to alienate a large portion of your customer base.

BRHT … another excellent post. cap doffed.

Take care and God bless fellow Celtic fans

Interesting development that Celtic may take civil action against the fans deemed responsible for the flares in Istanbul.

Can we also take civil action against:-

    – minty moonbeams for the cheating that he admitted to orchestrating at Mordor?

    – the scout(s) who recommended signing bangura Amido balde Tonev Wakaso Mouyokolo Berget Blackett etc? Definite breach of professional standards there.

I unequivocally, calling them numpties, denounced the flare merchants on here last week, declaring that they should be banned for life.

However, that is not the same as being approving of the Board’s selectivity when calling out wrongdoers.

  11. Gooood evening CQN, late on the go tonight for me

Now I only caught 30secs of the radio tonight whilst driving

Ronny and Celtic want to offer James Forrest a new deal

James Forrest wants to sign a new deal

Ronny and Celtic cannot get a hold of James agent to negotiate said deal ?

What’s wrong with James lifting the phone to HIS agent and telling him to get into Celtic Park and talk to Celtic ?

If what has been said on the radio is true ?

Or is James and his agent being evasive, as come Jan 1st he can talk to any club and do a pre- contract deal ?

That’s was my reading of this news – if it’s true, no idea as was on radio Clyde and I did not get full story

    Hail Hail

  12. quonno

Couldn’t agree more , the board can’t wait to criticise our own support ( sometimes deserved ) but run a mile when asked to stand up for our supporters when they are attacked by thugs or harassed by Police Scotland /SNP .

  13. Mike

Not been on much myself for the last few months.

The endless repetition of the same views by some people have scunnered me so I just make a quick check sometimes for the post that are of interest to me – I have repetitive strain injury from all the scrolling down that I do.

Pity as I do miss the views of many people who have also been scarce on here .

  14. My friends in Celtic,

Just what do some posters think Celtic should do about the latest charge of using “Flares”. It would seem that some think Celtic have overreacted and perhaps prioritys should lie elsewhere.

That is their prerogative, however do we just keep accepting even increasing fines or perhaps worse.

It would seem thatCeltic are damned on here no matter what they do.

If certain posters feel strongly that Bhoys will be Bhoys then perhaps they could open a save the “flare two ” fighting fund.

Failing that, just what should Celtic do ?

    HH.

THE GREEN MAN : Stranger than fiction.

Sipsini: I always hoped that getting rid of the “families” would have led to a better entity. Still seem to be accepting the s#*$. Despite my dislike of Reid he actually issued a rallying call – and I don’t mean to an illegal war. Pity it wasn’t followed on.

  16. As KevJ tells us every morning.

The club decided to shaft us cos we got three yellow cards at the shame game, and we expect them to stand up for the support.

Dearie me, they can’t wait to hurt us, and take us for mugs, and we are, cos we keep giving them the money to treat us with utter contempt.

    Who are the fools ?

  17. From the BBC

James Forrest: Celtic ‘waiting on agent over new contract’

Celtic’s attempt to secure James Forrest on an extended contract have been held up by the Scotland winger’s agent, according to boss Ronny Deila.

Deila said earlier this week that the 24-year-old was the next member of his squad he would like to tie down.

“We have tried to get hold of his agent, so you can write that, when he has time, he can come in and discuss an offer,” joked Deila.

“We have tried for a while, so hopefully he will come – like Santa.”

Deila had been quoted at the weekend as saying that talks had been held with Forrest, whose current deal ends in summer 2017, and that the terms offered appeared to be agreeable.

“Maybe he has a lot to do,” he added about attempts to complete a deal with the agent.

“I don’t know how many players he has.

“It doesn’t concern me, but hopefully we will get contact now and start talking.”

Thanks for the video of my favourite Christmas song in Gaelic.

I’ll play that to my wee Tipp pal in the pub tomorrow-he’ll love it,and I know he speaks his native tongue, cos he swears at me in it occasionally!

  19. Greenpinata

If you let off flares in a stadium after being repeatedly told not to then you should face the penalty for that offence , clubs should not be held responsible for individuals actions .

The point several people are trying to raise tonight is that if the club are able to comment on the flares incident then it should be able to comment on attacks on our supporters by thugs /media / police etc and it should be able to stand up to the corruption that is killing Scottish football.

    IMO of course .

  20. Fourgreenfields,

Understand your feelings, however rightly or wrongly clubs are held responsible.

    HH.

    Goodnight guys.

  21. Cowiebhoy-I will drive Forrest and his agent to an airport of their choice.Does he seriously think ,with his sick record that he can hold us to ransom? Get rid. HH

  22. Now it no surprise that Celtic take all their time to attack its own support, almost ejaculating over the opportunity to do so.

To then say they will tak civil action against so,e young (and presumably stupid) young supporters is sinister and breathtaking.

Celtic will sit on its hands, say nothing, join in in total corruption. It will allow criminalisation of its support. It will illegally pass supporters details to police.

But man it will take a couple of young supporters to court.

Hypocrites isn’t even the right word.

    It’s astonishing.

What you are seeing played out here is remarkabl.

This is it. This is your board. Corruption ok. Dissent not ok. Corporate songs ok. Non sanctioned singing? We will take you to the courts.

Not only are the boar disconnected entirely from supporters but therapy are actively victimising dissent and action.

I hate this Celtic board. They are Huns in everything but name.

And while you all support them Celtic are dead. Dead. Dead. Dead.

  23. eddieinkirkmichael on

Greeenpinta maybe Celtic could Ask why most other clubs who at their games sanction by UEFA don’t get fined for their fans using puris. Why are we always singled out? Look at YouTube for last weeks games why are only a minority of clubs sanctioned when a majority have the same. Problem.

Re health implications then why, as I asked earlier do Celtic use same puris in celebrating league titles?

  24. Neganon2 I fear that slowly but surely you are losing it, your posts are becoming increasingly bizarre. Do you not think you should take some time out from the blog and relax with your family over the festive period and come back in the New Year invigorated and batteries recharged. All the best to you and your for Xmas and the New Year. H H Hebcelt

  25. If I were James Forrest and had listened to some of the abuse that has been given out here, I would think twice about resigning – just my opinion.
