Milne’s prompt for Aberdeen fans

522

A few points about Stewart Milne’s comments this week. Immediately after the Court of Session overturned the earlier rulings on Rangers EBTs, putting the issue of sporting advantage in the spotlight, I noted that it would be the clubs who would decide if this matter would be looked at again, and that if Celtic were unable to gain support from a number of clubs, the issue was dead in the water.

The conversation has been parked until after BDO hear about their application to appeal to the Supreme Court but the issue remains active. Celtic are not alone on this matter, but as you hear from Milne, everyone is not on the same page.

I was a bit surprised Milne spoke openly on the issue but this needed to come out. Just as the SPFL’s decision to act or not is in the hands of the clubs, Aberdeen’s stance on the matter is ultimately in the hands of their supporters. If they care enough about the issue, they must express this view to Milne as clearly as they did in 2012, when they changed his plans on an earlier matter.

Milne’s comments about Scottish football’s position relative to the game in England were among the most futile ever uttered. He is one of the few people in a position to work for change. Aberdeen have more going for them than Swansea – a smaller club based outside England who earn over £100m from Premier League TV rights each season.

No wonder we’re outside the party when one of the men in charge has only just recognised a party exists.

Many thanks to all who donated to our Mary’s Meals appeal yesterday. The generosity of one or two of you blew me away. If you entered the Magners’ ticket competition, check your email this afternoon, as the winner will be notified shortly.

There’s still time to order a book or DVD from CQN Bookstore. Take a look at what’s on offer.

Bada I know – but never let it be ignored. It is like watching Captain Mannering being elected to the board. The joke is on us though. I despise the way the establishment can control people and wonder who is in on it on our board.

    a light insanity…

Not that I agree with the use of flares that can endanger supporters, especially with breathing difficulties.

I find the board only make statements when hit in the pocket and pander to some supporters that are too quick to herald them for doing so.

    ===============

Except the Board are not hit in the pocket. You are, I am . There job is to protect us where they can. I was at an Open Meeting two years back when the GB openly admitted they knew a banner would attract a fine. The response from the hall was on my lines. who gave you the right to make that decision?

The GB took the point on board because it affected everybody.

Hope you’re well my friend and maybe catch up on Saturday?

Regards Neganon, he has been posting the same pish since I came across him in 2007. Nothing changes with him.

    Comical Ali springs to mind.

Anyway going offline to watch a wee video about Lubo.

  6. Hebcelt. Firstly th very bst of seasons greetings to you and yours.

But I am sorry. Celtic indecent haste to throw every supporter they can find under a racist is bus is not something I am inclined to support.

Auldheid it’s not, as I am sure you know, about the few daft supporters, it about attacking us while feeling perfectly comfortable.to say nothing about cheating.

It amazes me that Scotland is trying to put th genie back in th bottle.

But then again that’s a racist society for you.

Celtic are dead. Killed by greed,p. Betrayed it’s support.

    We are now the zombies.

AULDHIED I think the point was about the board ignoring week to week interventions against our support?

Auldheid these players we could sign with the fines can I ask who in non league football you have in mind? Cause let’s be honest that’s what you’d get for all the fines in recent seasons.

My point was Id rather see the money in the wage bill budget (or any other budget I benefit from like CTV) than the fines payable to UEFA one.

    Wouldn’t you?

I am concerned that James’s injuries have hampered him in the full expression of his talent but I am seeing signs of from returning this season as he gets free from injury. He scares opposition players and managers.

And while many of our lot would happily drive him to the airport (the same line was used about both Stan Petrov and Aiden Mcgeady on CQN, which would have seen us lose £18m or so) it seems that, if his agent is hiding for a purpose, there are many managers trying to tempt this injury prone dud to their clubs.

I think Celtic lose a lot without an in-form James Forrest.

Yes I get that but on an issue that is in their complete power to tackle, it has been.

    I’m not sure what writing to the police about poor policing in the Gallowgate for example would actually achieve.;

Most crimes are committed in the absence of the police because they cannot be everywhere. I’m not sure a response to that effect would make any difference other than to perceptions, but where is a line drawn between the responsibility of Celtic and the responsibility of others?

The SLO is there to help with these matters. I would write to him if I felt strongly about it. Its amazing what you find out.

For example. It took quite some time to get planning permission for Safe Standing. OK big job, big health and safety issues. But when it came to the Commonwealth Games it was so much easier to get permission for structural changes and you realise that a successful Celtic face the same attitudes that we ourselves complain of.

    —–

As much as I like James on form, and it’s not a BIG like but you know shallow pool so I’ll take what I can get. He’s no where near McGeady or Stan level, and I agree Idiots on here didn’t rate McGeady.

James still hasn’t really delivered anywhere close to what the other 2 did, there’s only so long you can throw money at someone before its not worth the return

  12. SCULLYBHOY on 17TH DECEMBER 2015 11:50 PM

If I were James Forrest and had listened to some of the abuse that has been given out here, I would think twice about resigning – just my opinion.

-if that was aimed at me mate I will gladly accept it,Forrest has been a waste of time for years, the odd flash every 10 games (which may take him 4 months),no thanks, let him sit on a new treatment table. HH

  13. the glorious balance sheet on

    Auldheid

I’d like to see £50000 fines retained in the club’s’ pot to sign players, maintain the squad etc

But I’d also like the close to £500,000 annual bonus picked up by our CEO – at a time of declining revenues and footballing performance – also retained in the club’ s pot to maintain and improve the squad.

I know which of those two costs im more likely to get my knickers in a twist about. The larger cost of CEO bonus on which I struggle to see any signs of value for money being delivered.

Frankly the way we have performed in Europe over the last 2 seasons we will soon no longer have to worry about UEFA fines as we will not be capable of qualifying for the Europa League.

The downward spiral in European performances is very worrying. To be honest, set aside the exceptional outlier season of 2012/13 and I think we have been on a generally downward trajectory in Europe since 2008.

Aalborg, hapoel tel aviv, Braga, fc Utrecht, Sion, Juventus, Ajax, Maribor, legia Warsaw, inter Milan, Malmo, molde are all teams who eliminated us from European qualification/ progressed at our expense in that time. (Granted Sion and Legia were subsequently thrown out).

13 teams. Take Juventus, Ajax and inter Milan out of the equation, we have no right to expect to progress out of a group or 2 legged tie against those teams.

But as for the other 10 teams? We should be doing better against them.

I don’t know why anyone at Celtic should be picking up higher bonuses year on year when such a long term trend of decline has taken root.

  14. On reading, well quickly skimming, back, there seems to be an opinion that the Celtic, muckety mucks are basing their current and future revenue plans on the miraculous reappearance of the Lazarus team from down river.

(I heard the phrase muckety mucks in a phone call today and I swore I would use it somehow)

I’m sure that the financial gurus, bean counters, excel jockeys and model builders at the end of the Celtic Way have all presented their findings and have found nothing much will change.

Will Sky, BT, Al Jazeera or ESPN suddenly pour millions of dollars into our league because of the revival of ancient tribal hostilities?

    NO, NO and thrice NO.

Will our biscuit tin have to be up sized to accommodate the river of florins expected from two home games against a team which will struggle to compete with the likes of Motherwell, St Johnstone and ICT? If you don’t think they will struggle to be anything other than a bottom half team think back to their pathetic performances against Motherwell last season and St Johnstone this.

We will have no more ST holders than we do at present.

Sevco fans, other than the most die hard, will not turning out in droves when they witness their team consistently fail to beat better drilled SPFL sides.

So the Celtic business plan will continue along the present lines, relying on CL qualification and the sales of developed players to sustain respectability, profits and competitiveness.

  15. ....PFayr supports WeeOscar on

    GG

If CFC are indeed relying on CL qualification and the sales of developed players then were in big bother

CL qualification has never been so far away and there is little in our squad of value ..there’s no Vic, VVD or FF left to sell
