Mind the Kayal Gap

794

Neil Lennon, his goalkeeper and defenders will not be too concerned at the loss of their first goal in domestic football yesterday since Noah was a boy.  John Rankin’s pot-shot from 20-odd yards clipped the post on its way in but the Dundee United player scored from an area of the field that is usually vigorously monitored by Beram Kayal.

We’re going to miss that guy……

Kinda agree with you but think any of these3 would supplement our front 2 in the run in. I also think Hooper looks out of sorts and would have taken him off yesterday instead of Stokes. If any one of our front 2 get injured we will struggle to score, just think the 3 I mentioned would do a turn til the summer.

  2. Kick in the Nakas Not as good as anything already in the squad. I would even play McGeoch before Grant Holt and Gary O Connor both of whom appear to be nearer the end of their careers than the start and Leon Best is unproven and Gary O Connor is hardly banging them in for Hibs these days think he had a trial/or at least trained with Celtic before he got his move to hibs which tells me Neil Lennon did not think Gary O Connor is the answer either

I know I really should try to keep up.

Stokes is at Celtic for as long as we want him…( probably lacks pace to step up) he has also proven his ability to score goals at SPL level over a longer period than Hooper. Hooper will leave at some point. I like both a lot and I love them playing as a partnership. If I were to choose one.. Stokes every time.

Canny believe Best just scored for Newcastle, if only I could gamble like that! The 3 I mentioned would only be back up tp our front 2 til the summer and would be looking at short term loans in case of injury to hoops and stokes.

I think we certainly need another top class striker but feel we won’t get one til the summer.

I enjoyed match yday.. Big Fraser playing well and in many of most recent league games has made important saves.. That deserves recognition.. If we can coach out the now inevitable drop in tempo and sitting too deep – often in second half of matches, then I think all will be well.. No panic needed.. Rankin has squiggler form from distance before- ask the holy goalie, so it made for a nervous period.. We need a 3 goal lead to be calm so let’s coach the team to keep going till we really get 3 ahead..put teams away..good to see Commons back too…HH..

Great name… The original was one of my favourite student textbooks

  8. Paul et al, it isn’t so long since Celtic fans were lamenting an entire year without having kept a clean sheet away from home. The current Celtic team has now played (including added time), in domestic matches away from home, over 555 minutes of football without conceding an away goal. The last domestic away goal conceded by Celtic was at 12.11pm on November the 6th!

    From the last thread

Leon Best, Grant Holt or Gary O’Connor would do for me in the run in…..any thoughts

Not sure is lambert would sell his captain when they are 9th in the EPL.

and potatos, with some greens, broccoli is best, arguably, but I’ll happily take carrots and peas at a pinch,

    Know what I’m sayin’.

    Nah.

  13. I think Super Hooper and Anthony Stokes are both doing a great job How many times does Neil Lennon need to say he does not want to sell any of his players I do not expect anyone to leave this window. Last January Neil Lennon signed Kris Commons this January he has already brought in Mchael Lustig and Andre Blackman am sure if the right striker is available then Niel Lennon and Peter Lawell will get it done Hail Hail

So Boothroyd starts in Mark Hughes first game in charge. Looks like the loan deal agreed with Warnock is gubbed then.

I agree we need someone and id be tempted to agree with those advocating the need for a powerful targetman, however I just dont think we have the personnel who are good enough to resist the temptation of using the easy way out any time they come under the slightest bit of pressure (bar the purest of pure footballers Izaguirre) with the result being long ball after long ball after long ball.

So whilst that type of player is needed – id be cautious of doing it.

  20. Looking at the Premier League table I was astounded of forehead to discover that all teams outside the top 8 have a negative goal difference no wonder so many EPL Managers are keen to buy Celtics full backs

  21. Paul67

To be fair, Kayal would not have came powering in to the box to score a header.

I would be really disappointed if we lost any of the first team regulars this season.I think that the group spirit and camaraderie is evident. I imagine that Dan, Cha and Loovens and a few other fringe players will move on in the summer. I think it is a bit of a gamble not to strengthen our front line during this window. Has anyone here seen Mo Bangura at Lennowtown in any of the bounce games? Sorry No if you’re lurking you don’t count in this instance. Would he suffice if we fail to land a tall physically powerful aerial threat?

Just reading through some of the comments at the bottom of the

sky sports piece on Neil’s valuation of Young Gary Hooper.

The arrogance from the supporters of the “greatest league” in the

    world is infuriating.

When Andy Carroll is £35m why can we not ask for the same?

Not that I would want to sell anyway.

Another couple of signings and I believe we would have a team that

would beat most of the EPL and easily hold their own against the top 4.

  28. Well done to the bhoys yesterday.

I would like to thank everyone for the Birthday wishes especially those that I failed to thank. It has truly been a good one. Very memorable.
