A few categories of candidates for the manager position were identified before the end of the season.
There are a couple who would be considered ideal appointments, and who would be able to get on the list for top jobs in any country in Europe. If we can land one of them, and do so within the timeframe which will allow us to prepare for Champions League qualifiers, I think we’d all be happy (apart from those incapable of happiness, you know who they are).
Then there are managers with clear potential who have overachieved with resources available to them, but who also have a bit of European competition experience. You might know less about them, but their CVs can talk. This list is more extensive.
It’s also worth remembering how Celtic (and others) operate in certain respects when appointing a manager. Clubs often interview potential managers who don’t fit their required profile out of courtesy.
If a candidate of a certain profile in the game (or at the club) asks to be considered, it’s likely Celtic would interview him instead of rejecting him out of hand. Football is a tight, interconnected, industry, where making contacts is preferable to breaking them, so don’t be distracted by newspaper stories that someone or other has been interviewed. The story is likely to be accurate, but the context will mislead.
The process itself also changes how candidates are viewed. What the potential manager says about strategy, recruitment, technology are all likely to inform the club no his suitability.
Brendan Rodgers fits the bill before formal interviewing got underway, but he’s certainly not the only high-profile candidate under consideration, and I know others are making solid running.
The important thing to bear in mind right now, is that the moment a deal is done it will be announced, and that until that moment, don’t waste your time thinking you know what’s going to happen. There are too many variables to be certain of anything.

Yeah Masty I think yer right. A part of me hopes your right, But why not sack him? If he has failed on a few levels this season and can’t be trusted on picking the new guy. why is he still there?
I don’t buy the we lost our manager and can’t lose our ceo in the same year stuff. DD is a shrewd business man and must have contacts that can replace PL.

Hi Burgas……foo ye dain loon???…..braw I,m hoping……
Braw…
I get the impression DD is putting PL in his place.
Maybe time for P67 to change horses :-)
LUCKY CODY
I also think Lennon would be a disaster.
He would be a good coach for a team with limited assists trying to stay in the league they’re in.
He can organize defensively and make us hard to beat but no real flair.
Thought a lot of our victories with him were down to great individual performances from our better players rather than a team strategy.
He also seems to not trust youth which has to be a cornerstone of our future in this present tilted footballing landscape.
Strangely enough i thought RD’s team played exactly like Lenny’s but with less talented individuals.
This next coaching appointment is crucial for our future standing and position in the game.
Unfortunately i have a horrible feeling that our board are not willing or up to the task.

Lenny?
I’d rather have a new manager than an old manager. These things seldom work second time around.

i’m still on gods earth thanks to the ol hospital in Burgas LOL
Alan was oot no long ago there had a nice visit or two with him’
Twists
That’s the vibe I’m getting also,
Apparently he got his arse kicked after the zombie game,
Seemingly Blackpool have put goalkeeper Colin Doyle up for transfer for £1.
I mean, that’s ridiculous….next they’ll be telling us that you can buy a whole club for a pound……………….
No more cheap appointments . We have had enough of those. We either push the boat out or the place will be half empty next season. Fans have had enough of the cheap option. Between that and Res12 they’ve tipped us over the edge
If you remember watching Celtic in Europe under Neil Lennon,it was pretty clueless. A few passes between the back 4,nothing into midfield, passed back to the keeper to punt it up to Sammi’s side of the park. He’s had his chance IMO,move on.
That’s grand Jackie…..keep it lit pal and please give Alan my best when you see him……am working away on this old farm house….lots to do …keeps me oot of mischief though….
Lang may her lum reek….we ither folks coal…
Braw.
So who are the 6 in contention? Rodgers, Moyes and Mackay are 3 but who else. An appointment in next 5 days rules out Keane and O’Neil, and Lennon and Lambert have both said there’s been no contact.
Just to even out the expectations of a manager we haven’t even got…

A bit of a concern, no?
Style of play.
Seems to be the biggest selling point but a lot of dross aswell served up especially at Liverpool. Possession for possessions sake.
Nir Biton sideways pass will fit right in.
Luis Suarez.
He was obviously a class player but because of his reputation I don’t think people could see Rodgers had the best player in the league.
Rodgers own reputation rose due to hanging on to the coattails of the Uruguayan.
A huge factor in the 1 real good season he had.
The David Brent thing.
Ronny talked a good game but ultimately didn’t deliver but some of the complete and utter garbage that comes out of dear Brendan’s mouth. Is he for real?!
I actually think he would be a decent fit just not the Messiah that people are predicting.
Don’t get me started on Moyes though…
Sevco wants him, but demanding fee be paid in installments, post Champions League 2018 triumph, of course.
I’m assuming there is a golf tournament on if DD is being interviewed?
BADABING. I agree Lennie has had his time he decided to move on and unfortunately it did not work out for him.I can see no good reason for him walking back in to the Celtic job as much as I like the wee bloke. H.H.

Will do mate.
Take yir time on the refurb and enjoy.
Celtic currently have a total of 40 first team players, from which 22 have played for their country at full international level.
A lot of talk about Brendan Rodgers among the favourites for the big Job at Celtic but for me Paul Lambert would be a great choice. Captained Scotland when the country played in it’s last major finals in 1998 and with loads of European experience winning the Champions League with German side Dortmund and his brilliant form with Celtic on their way to Seville. A great record in management in England if we discount Aston Villa and a class player for Celtic. A lot to like about Paul.
You can just imagine the day after Lisbon and some Celtic fan moaning about how long it took to get the winner.
Honest to God it’s bonkers at times on here.

Rumours that Rodgers and Lawwell at Bothwell castle Monday
Don’t know if PL plays golf tbh ,:-)

Seconded, cynicism abounds

Tho I dont know if PL got his ass kicked, I do agree with you DD is more hands on in this appointment.I think this as he is responding to meeja questions, intimating a wide range of candidates were interview and a poss announcement in a few days.a total contrast to Celtic pr.hope your well :-)

PL is goin nowhere.he will not be cut off.Chaps like DD want to offer support to PL.I would wager if there was a change PL would be part of a transisitionary changeover before being ‘jackmcginned’ to the SFA to ensure we have a say (ps this is hypothetical/conjecture as he is our current ceo)
Hail hail:-)

Rodgers was interviewed last week in London, yesterday’s rumour and the fact DD is playing golf in Ireland tells me that maybe yesterday’s second interview was held over there

Take it he isnae handsome ? ☘
Bada Bing: Lenny in Europe …
Back then we had Forster in goal. One of his undoubted talents is getting the ball forward with strength and direction (and with either foot), which is not one of CG’s talents.
Likewise, Lenny committed us to zonal marking and 11 players in the box to defend corners.
#justsayin
Though I love Lenny for all sorts of reasons, he wouldn’t top my list for the current vacancy.
He looks like alex Rae’s uglier brother

An Tearmann,
Understand your sentiments. However
Who does Dermot hold responsible for 2 CL failures against mediocre opposition ?
Who does Dermot hold responsible for the surrender against Sevco ?
If we fail in CL qualifiers due to a 6 week prep in the midst of euro champs—who is responsible ?
At some point Lawwell has to be hel to account for the shambles he has created. A bloated mess of a playing staff and the Ronny experiment. He may end up at UEFA or the SFA and good luck to him ; he would certainly be an asset for the club. The transition to another CEO needs to be planned etc
However as CEO he has damaged the club and needs to go.
MASH having a laff :-)

===================================
No, not as much of a concern as your research;
Brendan Rodgers, LMA English Premiership Manager of the Year 2014.
The same award Ranieri’s just picked up. No mean feat to win that. illustrious company.
Your deconstruction of his candidacy hits the first fence and hurls the jockey into the rails.
