MISSING DUO: BOSS TAKES NO RISKS

NEIL LENNON left Maryan Shved and Jack Hendry behind as he prepared for tonight’s opening Champions League qualifier against FK Sarajevo in Bosnia.

The Ukrainian international winger, who was signed for £2million in January, and the Scotland international central defender sustained injuries and weren’t risked.

Shved, who looked lively in the pre-season work-out games in Austria and Switzerland, has had his competitive Hoops debut put on hold after a training ground knock yesterday.

The touchline ace, who was loaned back to his former side to see through the remainder of their domestic campaign, looked set to take his bow in Bosnia.

He was named in Lennon’s starting line-up for the goalless draw against St Gallen last week in what was a dress-rehearsal ahead of tonight’s encounter.

However, other new Bhoys Christopher Jullien and Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo made the trip are now on stand-by for their first top team appearances for the Parkhead men after their arrivals from Toulouse and Rapid Vienna.

Boss Lennon, speaking to the Daily Record, said: “The players are in as good condition as can be for this stage of pre-season.

“The Champions League is always important to Celtic. We have a difficult tie, but the players know what the incentives are and they know what’s at stake.”
