MJALLBY AIMS FOR RETURN

FORMER Celtic defender and assistant boss Johan Mjallby is aiming for a return to club management.

The Swede, 47, was at Parkhead for the Match For Cancer on Saturday between the Hoops and Liverpool line-ups of Stiliyan Petrov and James Milner that was watched by 20,000 and ended in a 3-3 draw.

Mjallby spoke of his intention to get back into the dug-out, despite a short-lived spell with Gefle in his homeland.

The ex-fans’ favourite said: “I’ve been out of football since June. I was quite happy to split with the club because we had different views about the squad.

“If the results don’t come, then it is obvious you have to either split or keep working hard. But you also need people to believe in you.

“It is different in Sweden, not what I’ve been used to working at the highest level here for a few years and even at Bolton (alongside Neil Lennon) in the English Championship.

“If you’re not working with the top six or eight teams in Sweden, it’s quite difficult, but it is definitely a learning curve.”

Mjallby added: “Obviously, I have great experience working here with Neil for five years.

“Now I’ve worked for two clubs in Sweden and it’s been interesting, but I would rather not work in Sweden.”
