Moment of clarity from Newco assistant

313

A moment of clarity from Newco assistant manager, Davie Weir on how far behind Celtic they are, “unless you’re spending £100 million or whatever the figure may be and even that doesn’t guarantee [success].”

This season Celtic will earn circa £50m more than Newco, £100m would address two years of deficit. Whereas Celtic are motoring with a worldwide recruitment strategy that’s delivering players ready for the challenge of Champions League football, Newco don’t have the experience or infrastructure to achieve value from a windfall (not that there’s one coming).

All of this talk of cash, on the back of some recently nuanced reporting, suggests Dave King’s election promises to spend whatever it takes are now seen for what they were.

A PR campaign convinced them to take their club from the hands of one of Europe’s richest men and give it to the directors of took so much care of Oldco.

When the hun got liquidated, I said at the time that unless our club and others questioned the corruption, the only club who would lose out at the end of the day would be Celtic.

Presently it’s not looking like it, but football is fickle and things tend to go in cycles, who knows what is around the corner, in any other country in the world they would be gone, folks forget we are talking about scotland where the hun rule and we are hated with a passion.

    Jg,

The blog misses yours and quite a few others input, there were quite a few who have disappeared over the last few years through a combination of the new advert based format and more bloggers that believe they add to the blog by thinking they can reduce dissent.

I was out the loop lurking for a while too and have to say I noticed it which was a surprise cause I thought I caused a load of it :) it appears there’s plenty gobshites ready to jump in and take my place :)

Good Evening fholks and I hope your day has gone well>

Been on the blog since near the beginning and it goes through phases like this, particularly in between games.

So two things we can do, we can come back on and make the blog great again or complain about the blog not being like it used to be.

Anyway delighted to saw both Thunder Road and myself took the plunge and booked up for the CQN Lisbon hoot ( Tuesday to Friday for us). For those gawping at the flight costs from Edinburgh to Lisbon ( yep BRTH has bought up all the cheap seats :-)), there are alternatives routes via Dublin, Madrid and London for half the price ( albeit with a stop)

Thanks for Thunder Road for sorting this, and we are now off to Dublin in the green briefly, and then on the Road to Lisbon. I suppose I better pay him as well for my flight.

The good thing is the blog will never be as good as it was and it was never as good we thought, I remember In the first few years people were lamenting the good old days :)

Intolerance and over emphasis on being PC has become more of a problem IMO, I can remember racists and bigots being made to look foolish with reasoned argument, it doesn’t happen any more.

Oh, and apparently Walter spent £15m in his second spell. Would have thought at least double that?

Still, better than the old “won three titles without spending any money”

  14. Ah know that it isny the way to look at things etc….especially for those who are guided in fitba terms by a, moral compass.

Thing is,…Walter didny care where the £millions came fae…not his problem…

But,…any money that Walter got his mitts on…he put it back onto the pitch.

Ye see,….what gets on ma wick is,…see awe the money that the Cellic get,….does that go back onto the pitch ?

This is a brilliant blog and has been for many years.

There have always been ups and downs on CQN whether the team are doing well or going through a bad spell.

Whenever, there is a break in fitba’ activity (such as the current winter break), there is often “other stuff” that takes over the exchanges.

Once the Bhoys get back on the park, all that will fall into the background again.

That’s not to say that there aren’t problems that should be addressed and discusssed – it’s the same for every club in the world (bar one!).

The very least we can expect on here is to discuss differing opinions in a civilized manner.

As I said, this is a brilliant blog… and we’re lucky to have it – let’s work together to keep it that way !

Strange that the mood should be so antagonistic/vitriolic at a time when the team is enjoying such an unforseen level of success. The feelgood factor is felt by many, including myself, but obviously not by all.

Makes you wonder what the blog would be like if ours and Sevco’s position were reversed.

Probably make folly folly and vanguard bears read like the People’s Friend.

  24. Anyone spotted that guy Graham who was a director at Sevco? I have just been forwarded his Twitter page , after the Orcs invaded Leipzig. I fear that the poor lad has a permanent Des O’ Connor at witnessing such a gathering, surely he is unable to sit down without being in distress . I fear for his health.

Your article yesterday was an appropriate response, from your perspective, of the garbage printed in yesterday’s Daily Record re Celtic FC. Some on here did not agree with it, Awe Naw, Kitalba, Neganon, Canamalar and Ernie Lynch for instance, and while that might look like a remake of The Usual Suspects it is a whole lot more complicated than that. And anyways, in this case, I tend to agree with them. Doesn’t give me the right to abuse Mein Host though. David Murray has been a malign influence in Scotland for decades. He brought down Rangers FC, and he helped bring down the Bank of Scotland, via MIH. For all of this he was lauded by the Scottish media and knighted by Tony Blair. Rangers FC will be liquidated with at least £170 million to unpaid creditors, with £95 mil owed to HMRC. Not to mention the £109 million Murray wrote off against MIH. (And Lloyds wrote off hundreds of millions against MIH). Nobody will ever tell me that that club is continuing in any way shape or form. Walter Smith wished good luck to the ‘new club’ back in 2012. Celtic could have and should have said something similar. They didn’t, they haven’t and they won’t. Some of us have never quite understood that.
