Moment of clarity from Newco assistant

313

A moment of clarity from Newco assistant manager, Davie Weir on how far behind Celtic they are, “unless you’re spending £100 million or whatever the figure may be and even that doesn’t guarantee [success].”

This season Celtic will earn circa £50m more than Newco, £100m would address two years of deficit. Whereas Celtic are motoring with a worldwide recruitment strategy that’s delivering players ready for the challenge of Champions League football, Newco don’t have the experience or infrastructure to achieve value from a windfall (not that there’s one coming).

All of this talk of cash, on the back of some recently nuanced reporting, suggests Dave King’s election promises to spend whatever it takes are now seen for what they were.

A PR campaign convinced them to take their club from the hands of one of Europe’s richest men and give it to the directors of took so much care of Oldco.

Totally shocked to see the decline in quality of comments on the blog: some really appalling language and insults more akin to Follow Follow than CQN.

The man with no surname spent £17m in 2008 alone , only offset by selling Some numpty (Hutton?) for 8/9m

    ———-

Yeah, that sounds more like it.

Throw in the early ones like McCulloch, Thomson and Whittaker then £4m for Jelavic, and you can’t be far off £30m.

It’s withdrawal symptoms from the winter closedown causing a down draft which ran into the anti cyclone of core held beliefs in a model that does not currently apply, causing the perfect storm.

With the more zephyr like breeze from the east approaching this weekend in the shape of a football calmer views are expected (unless Celtic were to lose of course causing an Imperect Storm.)

Jobo Balde (the nearest thing we have to a weather forecaster) will, like most of us, think the latter unlikely.

    Glasstwothirdsfull,

Had a further look at a Hun website of that year, total spend £17.35m, total in £10.30m, loss for the year £7.05m

The footnote says not a bad bit of business for Rangers this year!!!

  13. Bada

I just choked oan my pizza there

    Hold out for a 2nd bid at £5.5m and not €5.5 :-)))

  14. GlassTwoThirdsFull.

Smith spent £29m from Jan 2007 to Aug 2008.

This was offset by sales of Hutton, Cuellar and Cousins bringing in £19m for a net spend of £10m.

Had the receipts from the latter been put aside rather than buying players, RFC would still exist today as the spend up to 2009 pushed debt up to £31m and with the collapse of the banks put pressure on SDM to sell up and help reduce the debt Lloyds had taken over from HBOS.

The reckless element of this spending was Aug 2008 because by then a series of determinations setting out what HMRC thought they were owed had started to arrive in Feb 2008.

Smith then, as now, knew that without that spend CL would be beyond them and their supporters would start to drift away.

Doing the same thing again is not possible because no MIH to borrow through and no credit line and no one with £20m to throw away to stop the drift.

It’s like watching Jaws 2 knowing that in the end the shark is going to get it, only the means is unknown.

  15. The Green Man- a few guys getting the car ready with Satnav for Glasgow Airport…if that is an opening bid and it’s genuine, we could get £6.5-7 mil….

  16. Sitting watching Lincoln v Ipswich (only cos its on council TV),this is where Graham Taylor made his managerial debut and won the old Div.4 with Lincoln, but it struck me how more appropriate ,in the football context, is the minute`s applause to show respect than the minute`s silence, which is often abused when used(know what i mean?), other teams he managed played each other (Watford and Aston Villa, where grown men cried when applauding to show their respect,to a man villified by the Sun.

This should be the standard method adopted by all Football Associations.

In the space of about 10 posts it went agley (sp?)

Would like to echo sentiments of CRC and others. It’s a great blog, the best!!

I have serious reservations about board, about ethics, about lots of stuff around agitators haunting the blog. Guys that ( i feel) know hee haw about fitba, or never talk about fitba etc…

When all said and done fairly sure it’s well-intentioned passionate views, no matter how nutty it might seem to others.

For the overwhelming majority on here who are Celts fans, to go to the trouble of posting a view or comment, it’s worthwhile remembering that post will be important to the poster, in some way.

I’ve made my share of mistakes on here and had the benefit of wiser heads pointing out errors and alternative views, hopefully, learned from some and also worked out who to ignore! ;-)

It eventually becomes obvious who the anti-Celts are.. time always tells.

As much as I thought Biton would be a great buy for us, it hasn’t worked out, and better for both if that bid is real.

I like the look of the new midfielder. But, I wonder how/where will he fit into the line up….

Brown seems untouchable, and Armstrong seems to be rounding into the midfielder we hoped he would when we bought him …

If BR keeps with his preferred system, Eboue seems to be a 2 in the 4231 … but, as I said, we have SB and SA there already, and neither of them really work in the 3.

    Thoughts?

SA as the box to box midfielder TR who knows he doesnt appear to have the fitness for the way BR plays, very skillful though and a goal threat.Good problems to have and its a squad game as players at times will be unavailable

  24. For many years, new Celtic signings took a few games to settle. Even Henrik took time to find his feet in Paradise.

The moment I sensed that this was going to be a very special season was when Scott Sinclair netted the winner at Tynecastle, minutes after being introduced as a substitute.

Play Ebouae against the Rovers, even as a sub, and watch him go.

  25. Re the Coral court case.

I posted this earlier, seems that the bookie want’s it both ways, he will win obviously, but if the defence gets their act together and produce this advert, it would imo put the cat among the pigeons.

It seems as if their brief is doing everything in his powers to not call them a new club, alienating the bigot pound is not a good move for them.

    Dessybhoy..

    How you doing mate?

Doesn’t Rogic line up more in the middle of the 3,rather than as one of the 2 ? I like Armstrong, but, at the moment, I’m not sure that he is a good fit for the middle of the 3 … he makes some good runs, but, frankly, his shooting is not good enough for that role at the moment, and Rogic has a bit more creativity, which I think is necessary for that role. When fit, I think TR has that role.

I hate to say it (it is going to get me in trouble on CQN), but, from the admittedly little I have seen of Eboue, Brown seems to be the one whose role is most under threat by Eboue.

The youtube video that was posted on here by someone (sorry, I cant remember who) of Eboue reall;y impressed me …. solid, good positioning, and good vision … as soon as he got the ball, he was moving it forward with purpose …

I know youtube videos can be unreliable… but, it is all I have seen of him so far, and so far, so good!

I think a midfield 2 of Armstrong and Eboue could be great!

Am I right in thinking that people on here are discussing and wishing Nir Bitton well on his €5.5m transfer based on a tweet from some bloke who calls himself “AgentKevin” and has less than 800 followers on Twitter

I, er, would wait for a little more established source before the valedictory posts are written
