Moment of clarity from Newco assistant

313

A moment of clarity from Newco assistant manager, Davie Weir on how far behind Celtic they are, “unless you’re spending £100 million or whatever the figure may be and even that doesn’t guarantee [success].”

This season Celtic will earn circa £50m more than Newco, £100m would address two years of deficit. Whereas Celtic are motoring with a worldwide recruitment strategy that’s delivering players ready for the challenge of Champions League football, Newco don’t have the experience or infrastructure to achieve value from a windfall (not that there’s one coming).

All of this talk of cash, on the back of some recently nuanced reporting, suggests Dave King’s election promises to spend whatever it takes are now seen for what they were.

A PR campaign convinced them to take their club from the hands of one of Europe’s richest men and give it to the directors of took so much care of Oldco.

alternatively, to get SB, SA and Eboue all on together …does BR switch to a 4312 … a system I like, and is used by many South American teams to press with great effect …

and in Scotland, it can easily be swtiched to a 3412 ….

only problem is that we have a glut of the 3 players ….

as you say, Dessy … it is not the worst problem to have …

I’m good thanks ,hope you are, TR seems to play at the tip of midfield in the most advanced position, supporting the striker, tremendous shot on him, SA runs from deeper dont know if he plays as the second defensive midfielder but he definitely has plenty running in him ,as you say needs to work on his finishing he could have bagged hat trick in their midden, I think the team as it evolves will have plenty options and be even better to watch.

the break came at a good time for hertz too – will give whatshisname a chance to get to know them better- may see them picking up points more consistently in the second half of the season.

TET … how ya doing pal?

Sorry, I haven’t been on as much of late … did I read that your wife was not well? I hope all turns out okay!

Given the age of Eboue and Scott Brown… I can see BR bringing the young one on slowly this season, with an eye to taking over Brown’s role in the future … and Brown playing a mentoring role this seasson …. Eboue looks good!!!, but he is still young, and may need some time/help in adjusting to the game andl life in Scotland…

and SB seems to have take to like under BR … so, a futher step on the road to SB coaching in the future as well, perhaps…

    See how easy it is.

Another myth that Chris failed at Lincoln, he was brought in to keep them in the league, this he did, he sighted personal reasons for quitting, he wasn’t sacked, he wasn’t mutually consented, he quit after he did what he was asked to do, that imo is not failure :-)

Broonie may well be the next Celtic manager, if Brendan stays on for a year or two, if he has the qualities he is a shoe in, it’s a big IF mind you, but I would trust Brendan to either put him up or not as the case may be.

The Mrs will be fine, hopefully :-)

  9. There is absolutely no chance of the punter winning his court case against Corals. The advert highlighted by TET is irrelevant.

The bet was accepted on the premise that Rangers would be relegated by dint of finishing the season in a league position that meant automatic relegation, or by losing a relegation play-off. The odds provided were set on that basis.

    Bet void.

All of which means Corals win their case WITHOUT having to declare them a new club.

  10. The advert highlighted by TET is irrelevant.

    And not very accurate ……

Just five men have crossed Glasgow’s sectarian divide since the Second World War; Mo Johnston, Kenny Miller and Steven Pressley being the most notable. Rangers have historically had the better of this Protestant v Catholic clash.

  11. The bet highlighted by me is NOT irrelevant, the add states that the huns were relegated.

The punter will lose his bet, but not for the reason stated.

There was no mention of how they would be relegated when the bet was placed, if you have followed the case you will see this.

The mere fact their council is arguing about the defenition of the word relegation proves this.

  12. I also see Broonie as a potential future Hoops manager ,

Hope BR stays long enough to teach him the ropes ,

Minimum 3 seasons would do thanks Brendan.

I heard a rumor that Sevcomedia offered CQN 5 million quid for St. Stivs…. they are hoping that, if they sign him, he will stir up some interest in/bids for some of the sevco players!

    GlassTwoThirdsFull.

Smith spent £29m from Jan 2007 to Aug 2008.

This was offset by sales of Hutton, Cuellar and Cousins bringing in £19m for a net spend of £10m.

    ———

That’s actually being a bit generous.

In terms of transfer fees it doesn’t look too bad (tax issues notwithstanding!).

But when they sold Hutton and Cuellar they bought in around seven (at least!) players – Miller, Davis, Mendes, Lafferty, Edu, Bougherra, Velicka.

This would have blown out the wage bill by quite a bit.

Then to go and spend £4m on Jelavic in 2010, knowing there was no direct entry into the CL group stage the following year? Crazy!

Then to call for the same again now?

Even crazier, although as you say, they can’t.

Some hack years ago printed that he failed, it stuck, he was going through a rough period, financial and women troubles, I assume the football became secondary, but he didn’t actually fail.

I fully expect Coral to win the case, I also reckon the punter knows he will lose the case, I think he wants the court to state they are a new club, just a hunch.

When he placed the bet, the shop called head office and they gave the price without imo knowing the full facts, they obviously knew they wouldn’t be relegated on footballing merit, this was never mentioned when the bet was placed, so imo their add is wholly relevant, they are enticing punters to bet on the premise the huns were relegated, which as we all know is total pish.

I have a soft spot for Izzy …. always did, but particularly so after spending a bit of time in Honduras a few yeaers ago …. as usual on dive holidays, I always wear the hoops (no shark would dare bite the hoops! ) …. everywhere I went, there where shouts of ‘Celtic’ and “Izzy’ …. he is beloved there! I loved it!

he has played well this year, but has never fully recovered from that injury …. but he still has a few decent years … and I would hate for him to sit on the bench and not get a game for us …. and I think he might make a decent salary in the US now ….

or if he goes back to Honduras, the weather might just be a bit better than Glasgow!

on that note, I’m off to St. Lucia for a bit of diving/mountain climbing in two weeks….. cant wait!
