Monied leagues sweep all

219

It looks like Hibs will take 7,000 fans to Celtic Park for the Scottish Cup quarterfinal on Sunday, which will be the biggest travelling support to visit in many years.  It also equates to around half their average home supporter attendance; there is belief and commitment to the Hibernian cause, with good reason.

Bayern Munich’s progress to the Champions League quarterfinals looks assured after a 3-0 home win over Bayer Leverkusen last night.  The German league leaders relied on a last gasp equaliser at home to Celtic last month to reach this stage of the competition.

Four clubs from outside the big five leagues reached the last stage of the competition.  Each of them lost at home this midweek.  PSV Eindhoven take a 1-7 score to Arsenal on Wednesday.  We have our hard luck story in this season’s competition, but the reality is that the resources needed for a genuinely deep dive into the Champions League only exist in the monied leagues.

The huns will enjoy their moment and rightly so, they were far superior in every aspect of the game. However, Fenerbahce were a very poor team and tactically they made it easy for the hun centre backs with cross balls into the box, so easily defended.

  2. Fernabace totally underestimated this match. Attitude was all wrong and arrogant. Losing their big Center back didn’t help. Proper getting injured helped them.

    And midges 🦟🤪😂

But great days…..…. And nae traffic on the roads late 60s early 70s👍

    for some local insight please.

is this a sacking offence for jose ?

seriously how shite was that defense.

  5. Weebobbycollins on

Did Jose really believe they would win by simply pumping high balls into the box? What happened to plan B?

If they play against us like that then it will be a real challenge for us. As it has been the past 2 games.

You recon we will play like the turks

B78 – he was given a dress rehearsal then torn a new one.

A three-peat would not be a good look.

It’s a massive game for him.

However, Hibs on Sunday is the priority 👍

  8. How poor were Fenarbache ?

Remember Sevco lost to QP, Saints, the Mothers . That shows how poor the Turkish side was.

    HH

  9. Eratic,

FFS, totally forgot about the midges. What a nightmare they were when swe were soberish.

However they seemed to disapear the more we drank. I also think they flaked out when zonked

    Didn’t we all. 😀😀😀

  10. !!Bada Bing!! on

Mourinho reeming them for £10 million a year, their wage bill must be ridiculous, Saint Maximam honed his Beach Football skills in Saudi I noticed….

  11. fanadpatriot on

Jose career has been going downhill for years ,there is no enthusiasm in his approach to games .

    He is on pension time.

  12. Hit it long to Cerny that is their tactics, they’ll sit it then hit it long, bite and scrap for everything, they have this weekend off remember because they lost to Queens Park

  13. SS,

I could have got a ticket for this,go with some Turkish mates, but having done so before,I chose wisely. The whole Turkish league is like this.Full of players, big names in the past, but well past it,or second raters.Really poor for the support they get. They give these has beens, big money, and get performances like this regularly.

Bigger problem is,none of them travel well.Could be worse at Legoland.

  14. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Dessy – the out ball was Cerny in the centre circle and “the special one” couldn’t see it😂

  15. Jose just here for the big bucks, big Villa on the banks of the Bosphorous, chauffeur driven to work and back.

As I said, just more faded bling.

  16. Greenpinta,

The evidence was there to see. They have not beat a decent team yet. They played all tonight, but Fener WERE very poor.

  17. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Turkey – where does the money come from to pay him and his very average squad?

Presumably the rest of the league is similar?

Are the Turks aware they’re being taken for turkeys?

  18. Turkeybhoy

I agree Fernerbahce looked very poor. No argument there.

I do think that the huns can raise their game depending on the opposition. Regardless which manager they have.

We need to be at our best against them and certainly not rest on our laurels. The consequences of doing so are as per 2nd Jan.

    HH.

  19. I’m sitting here wondering , what’s their player bonus for a European win 🤔

  20. This is what Jose had to say:

“We were very bad everywhere,” he said.

“I don’t think it’s fair to say we were bad defensively because we were very bad everywhere.

“Maybe you laugh, but for me it was a good result because of the way we performed, the result could have been bigger than this one.

“There is, I think, a penalty but to speak about referees after this performance I don’t think is ethical. Our performance was bad overall.

“We lost a lot of duels, our passing was not fast. To speak about Fred [who was suspended tonight] is something that I don’t like but he was playing fantastic and the team was playing fantastic with him there.

“Defensively we made incredible, incredible mistakes. They defend a lot with a very low block and then dangerous counters and we had no pace to follow that.

“So for me, I have to say that we deserved a punishment of this result. If someone wants to ask me if it’s over, no, I don’t think it’s over.”

  21. Quick look at FF.They want Jose as next manager.

Bling, give us it,loads of it.TOO THICK TO BELIEVE.

    😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  22. Good results in Ukraine tonight as a last minute winner for Kyiv sees them go 10 points clear again of rivals Shakhtar who drew their game 1-1.

10 games to go and although Shakhtar have a game in hand this result really breaks their momentum.

  23. glendalystonsils on

I always thought that St Maximin was a good player at Newcastle , strong ,fast and dangerous . Don’t know what Jose’s done to him . Or the rest of that Fenerbache team for that matter .

  24. quadrophenian on

Disappointing to awaken to the news of the Huns Fener-Bashing their Turkiye opponents.

That is a quality result esp for a team everyone writes off for being flaky and pish.

Thankfully, it should remind us they still have a surprise result in them now and again.

BTW, a pal here is a Leeds Utd fan and v happy the 49ers input has them sitting at the top of the Championship.

  25. Young boys beat the team top of the Turkish super league home and away in the CL play offs.

So tonight isn’t the result that it will be made out to be – Mourinho certainly adds glitter but his star has faded long ago.

The expanded CL has certainly detracted from this competition.

Haven’t read it , thanks will order that 👍

    ————–

Very early in the book Burrows talks about eye witness accounts from Greenocks well and good taking a wanderup Lyle Hill to gaze down at paddle steamers and small boats coming up the clyde from irelad with what looks like pink covers on their decks.

The pink was the faces of straving irish packed standing on the deck fleeing An Gorta Mor.

The boats of many faces. From 1840s onwards and for many decades.

On reading the book, I had to stop many times at passages of places we know here, and reflect how cruel the establishment could be. Not everyone, but lots of them. Many native scots demonstrating behaviours that are so ungodly, unchristian, but accepted as being ok because the others are invaders after all.

My branches of Higgins came from Sligo in the 1850s, then in the 1870s on from Tyrone.

It is all captured in the book in the horrible retelling of the SS Londonderry, long fogotten, something my grandas might have known, but not anything I had heard till I read the book.

The coffin ships didnt just go to north america, people died in the shortest of crossings

Give it a go, but be prepared.
