Mooy and Maeda master Hibs

178

After a shaky opening few minutes when Hibernian threatened to swamp Celtic, the champions took control and recorded their third and best win at Easter Road since a similar result nine years ago.  Aaron Mooy scored his first goal for Celtic, shortly before adding a second from the penalty spot, but his overall performance was deserving of the Man of the Match award.

With Josip Juranovic due to return to right back on Monday, Ange Postecoglou has a decision to make in central mid.  Callum McGregor will start, but Mooy, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley will compete for the other two slots.  Mooy is normally stand-in, but he has made a case to start.

Daizen Maeda seems to have gained confidence in Qatar.  His return to domestic action has seen a lift in effectiveness.  The game was determined last night by two first half runs he made.  We were surprised when he was taken to the World Cup to play striker, with Kyogo left in Glasgow.  Having watched how important pressing is to Japan, their squad selection looks right.

Make no mistake, our rivals were hoping to see a chink in Celtic’s armour last night.  9 points is a commanding lead, one that can suffer a defeat and remain commanding.  Instead, the champions looked every inch that status.

  1. Good afternoon, friends.

There’s been a very healthy flow of emails into the ole Inbox with numbers approaching pre-World Cup levels. Loads of good debate on both of the channels that I tune into as well as other social media platforms. So if you haven’t done so already (or ever before!) why not make your opinions count for something – just stick the names of the 3 Celtic players that you feel performed best last night on an email and send it to sencelpoty@gmail.com by 10pm tonight. As I’ll be out most of this evening I don’t expect to publish the results until tomorrow morning. But you never know….it might be later tonight.

    Thanks for your continued support.

    Livi

    Hibs

    Celtic

    Aberdeen

    3rd round of fixtures.

Traditionally tough grounds to go to, and if all make the top 6, it’s going to be a bit of a mess again.

    Currently only 2pts separating 3rd to 8th.

Since 2016-17 to present day (6.5 seasons) Celtic have lost only 4 times at home in the league, 2 of which were with no fans.

A 3rd was a defeat to Aberdeen last game of the 2017-18 season.

  4. DAVID66 re: weather

13 celsius just now, off out with the upper.

Really enjoyed the game last night. Really think ih has to Kyogo, Maeda and Jota up front from the start. 60mins in do our usually and unleash the fresh legs.

Just finished watching Ford vs Ferrari. A mighty fine flick.

  5. Well done McChuils.

Ps Does the fact that the sign over the door has an extra `C` in the name have any significance?

PPS Has ernie been banned? Haven`t seen him on for a while.

PPPS No comments about ernie taking a sabatical as it is the season of goodwill :-)

  6. I hope Juranovic starts on Monday.

I don’t get this “he hasn’t played for 3 weeks” nonsense. If that’s a reason for him not starting, it would then be 4 weeks. So how many weeks before he is ready to start?

He starred in the World Cup and having been included in last night’s squad, is obviously injury-free, and like Maeda and Mooy, his confidence should be sky high after his heroics in Qatar.

    Play our best players.

  7. From the ticket office there came no reply and more importantly even fewer tickets for this season’s home games and from the so called Supporters Liason Officer (the SLO) no word, no explanation, and no communication. Incommunicado. I should have know better. I should have went straight to the man I knew as ….The Hotel Inspector, the Belfast man with the Glasgow accent, the touts tout,

the man who unlike the Royal Mail, always delivered. The drop, as always, in the same old telephone box out in the sticks, using the same system, pick up the brown envelope, press Button B, take the money and run. Works every time. The world of MI5. Meet me in McChuills, Saturday usual time.

  8. Enjoyed the match last night even though the game was over as a contest after an hour. The mass exodus of the Hibs supporters must have been a huge downer for their team and manager.

After a shaky opening the Hoops produced some scintillating football. There was a real hunger in this display but full concentration from the start will essential at Ibrox next Monday. All the Celtic players involved in the recent World Cup did well and has given a real lift to the form of Mooy and Maeda, they were tterrific last night. Great to see Kyogo recover his goalscoring touch as we head for the derby on Monday. A.P’s squad looking strong again.

A happy and healthy ’23 to Paul 67 and thanks again for providing this platform for news and our views regarding all things Celtic and not forgetting all CQNers.

    Just a thought….

For years we were told that the January window isn’t where we should do our business, as it is overpriced.

    Question….

    What has changed?

  10. Regarding the midfield for Monday. I would go with Reo Calmac and Mooy. O Riley has been below par for the last 3 games. I think not making the Danish World Cup squad has affected his confidence. He has missed a few easy chances in recent games where his body language says a lot. It would be great if he came on as a sub and score a great goal against the huns. That would give him the lift he needs.

  11. bournesouprecipe on

I think the Anthony Ralston injury has given Ange a very happy selection problem. Playing Reo Hatate at right back had freed up the midfield slot, for Aaron Mooy to shine with four goals between them in two games. It’s very difficult to see who drops out, as it would be very harsh on either player, and only one of them can partner Matt O’Riley and Calum MacGregor.

The alternative is to play an unchanged winning side, – Ange knows best.

Perhaps where we are looking has changed?

Also when we are looking . Not waiting until we are well into ,or even nearing the end of the window, when it’s desperation time and selling clubs can hold us to ransom? Two deals already completed , at least one more very close as of 29th December.

  13. Weeron- a manager who knows players from a totally different market, getting very good players, good poprofessionals at bargain prices, and a non interfering CEO.

I thought Maeda’s performance last night told us everything you need to know about his mentality. How many of us would have backed him to score that goal after he missed the sitter?

    ****************

Honestly thought he was very unlucky not to score with his brilliantly placed header when he tried to find the gap between the defenders on the goal line and the crossbar.☘

  15. BSR,

Crocker has no idea, it was a good chance but it wisnae a gimme, he possibly attacked the ba’ too quickly. Daizen Styleee.

Our play last night was Magical.

It was Greg who played that wonderful ba’, not Callum, Sky Sports you cannae expect much as they have an Agenda.

  22. It would be Jouro for me at right back at Ibrox on Monday, we need him to curb the threat of Kent. Surely we pick one of the outstanding players in the World Cup. Is there a sanity clause as Groucho Marx would say in the recent supposed offer of 8 millon for our Croat defender. There must be some people at Chelsea who are not quite the full shilling.

Good point re: WHEN we are looking. Again, in its heyday, this blog frequently pushed the idea that deals only materialized very late in the window.

So here we are, after buying very well in the last winter window, when we got 3 signed on day 1 of that window, now have 2 in the door before the window opens.

The success rate has been pretty decent, too.

  26. Ghuys , A year or two ago a semi illiterate Hun on one of their websites referred to a player as an escaped goat, even his fellow Huns laughed at it, we started using it ourselves here as a bit of a joke.

However reading this thread, I’ve seen 3 or 4 sensible Posters using the term escape goat, and I don’t think they were trying to be funny, FFS the expression is scapegoat, lets not give any lurking hun a cheap snigger.
