Mooy and Maeda master Hibs

178

After a shaky opening few minutes when Hibernian threatened to swamp Celtic, the champions took control and recorded their third and best win at Easter Road since a similar result nine years ago.  Aaron Mooy scored his first goal for Celtic, shortly before adding a second from the penalty spot, but his overall performance was deserving of the Man of the Match award.

With Josip Juranovic due to return to right back on Monday, Ange Postecoglou has a decision to make in central mid.  Callum McGregor will start, but Mooy, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley will compete for the other two slots.  Mooy is normally stand-in, but he has made a case to start.

Daizen Maeda seems to have gained confidence in Qatar.  His return to domestic action has seen a lift in effectiveness.  The game was determined last night by two first half runs he made.  We were surprised when he was taken to the World Cup to play striker, with Kyogo left in Glasgow.  Having watched how important pressing is to Japan, their squad selection looks right.

Make no mistake, our rivals were hoping to see a chink in Celtic’s armour last night.  9 points is a commanding lead, one that can suffer a defeat and remain commanding.  Instead, the champions looked every inch that status.

    ………….

Cheers mate, but do you know WHY that game was played on a Monday ?

    I dont have a clue ?

    HH mate.

  3. If anyone is thinking of travelling to Dumfries &Galloway today ….. Don’t!!!! Roads are flooded and treacherous. Never seen rain like it. Our field has turned into a loch – Big Jimmy had to do the breast stroke to get to his feed today.

Guess it’s now a day for watching Pelé and some hunskelping.

  4. As I look out my Arbroath window, I can see cars bobbing about in the water…… hang on, I live by the harbour !

Scaniel – where about in D&G? I’m heading down to CD and KBT later.

    Thanks.

  6. Monday will be a whirlwind of a game, despite the chasm in talent between the two sides. Beale will be demanding they compete, the orcs will be their usual bitter selves, they will be crashing around the pitch with impunity and Beaton will of course let the usual thuggery pass him by. That’s not a game for Mooy, who excels with a more measured low block opposition in front of him.

We need to revert to the usual 3 of Hatate, McGregor and O’Riley (who does need to up his game but important to the way we play). Mooy when we near the end of the game.

RWB – preference would be JJ if fit and raring to go after the world cup boost, then Johnston and Ralston the last choice.

As I said yesterday, chance for 16 players to influence the outcome on our side, who are superior than theirs.

  8. Morning folks,

    Interesting conversation regarding Monday games.

Think 2nd April, 1984 v them was a Monday. Paul and Willie McStay make history by being the first brothers to score for Celtic against Rangers in the same game.

We won the game 3 nil.

  9. Really going for it in the East Asian market, 6 Japanese players in, serious bids in for 2 South Koreans according to Twitter

Japan ≠ South Korea but if we can get the same hit rate from our new players as we have had from Hatate (clear poty in Jobo’s table) Kyogo (first choice striker and top scorer) and World Cup star and recent match winner Maeda we’ll have an oustanding squad with the sort of depth we’ve never seen before, for a minimal outlay on transfer fees and, more importantly these days, wages.

It will also mean we’ll have younger players coming through to take the place of the players who will be sold while they can still command a decent transfer fee – transfer fees to the epl fall off a cliff from any league other than the top 5 once a player hits 26

Some very progressive thinking going on at all levels at Celtic.
