We were all disappointed Cameron Carter-Vickers missed out on the USA’s opening World Cup game last night. In all the games we have seen him play, he has never conceded a penalty like the defender who took his place did. Still, managers are reluctant to chop and change central defensive partnerships, so Cameron may not see much action.
Given how crucial he is to Celtic, we should perhaps not be too disappointed his profile will be subdued at the tournament.
Aaron Mooy featured in 11 of Australia’s World Cup qualification games and will hope to start tonight in what will be a challenge against holders France.
Recent World Cups have seen the clearest manifestation of the Winner’s Curse. Whereas losers have an obligation to break and fix their structure, winners are incentivised to keep things as they were. We have seen this cost Celtic in recent years. At World Cup level, this has perhaps contributed to four of the last five winners failing to make it out of the group stage. Brazil, winners 20 years ago, being the exception.
France were far from convincing at the Euros. After a 1-0 win over Germany, they drew with Hungary and Portugal before being sent home by Switzerland on penalties in the first knockout round. No obligation to go through World Cup qualification will not have helped their preparations either.
So maybe Aaron Mooy, 32, will be the breakout star of this World Cup! Tune in, 7pm tonight, to find out.
Well done to the Saudi players. It is in no way patronising to suggest the thrill most players have at being able to compete against Lionel Messi. To do so and win the game on the biggest stage you will ever play is the gift of football. A result of the ages, up there with Algeria beating West Germany in 1982. I thought they were brilliant.

Hello again all you young rebels
AN TEARMANN
Just catching up on here now and seen your post.
I have heard of the gentleman in question through a Celtic historical
book I read years ago.
My intention if you remember was to attend the graves of different
people associated with Celtic, particularly one of our founders, and
tidy up their graves etc.
But Covid and many other obstacles including teaching kids the
beautiful game have obstructed my intentions, however my boy and
the weemhan have promised to come with me and help when we
can coordinate times lol.
Mean while I’m sipping a tall pina colada and admiring the Great
Barrier Reef, amazing sights.

from the bbc –
Quiz: Order these Rangers managers from longest to shortest time served ?
Is this a trick question ?
Surely if Martindale comes he is managers who actually served the longest time
……………..
Very Good Mate.
That made me chuckle.
Surely Ian Durrant is the ” Shortest” in relation to time as a Hun Manager….IF I remember correctly he lasted for ONE GAME, against Dunfermline……and the Huns got beat that day ?
LOL
HH
I have watched every World Cup game so far.
i have had a ” Correct Score” Bet on every game so far.
I have had a ” First Goalscorer” Bet on every game so far
I have had a ” MULTI Goal Scorer Bet…..A Player to score TWO or more ?” in every game so far.
NOT much success…so far.
Does the above make me a BAD MAN ?
LOL.

Brazil Captain in 1982 World Cup was ” SOCRATES”…
A DOCTOE and a Chain Smoker…allegedly ?
Whit a Player that boy was.

DOCTOR ffs !
Good morning all cqners across the globe especially those 2 globe trotters Melbourne Mick and BRRB, from another dark, chilly but dry at the moment Garngad. No ice on car this morning by the looks of it.
TURKEYBHOY and Big Jimmy got sent a similar text but they also mentioned Goram which for a mili- second I found sad….Anyway onto today work, interviews later on, then Grandsons football (a friendly) tonight a long day ahead.
Whatever you all are doing have a good day and spare a thought for poor BRRB’s other half….poor M, putting up with him.
D :)
Gordon Banks save against Brazils PELE was indeed Superb…
But, I can remember being at Hampden, and Celtic faced Ayr Utd in a Semi Final of the League Cup.
After a 3-3 Draw, Celtic won the Replay ( I cant remember the score 0 ?
During the REPLAY against Ayr Utd, RONNIE SIMPSON pulled off a FANTASTIC save from Ayr Utds ” John ” DIXIE” Ingram, the Ayr Utd centre forward in front of the Celtic End.
Ingram was only about 6 or 7 yards out from the Celtic goal when he was all alone, and stroked the ball towards the Celtic Net. it looked a CERTAIN Goal….however Ronnie Simpson somehow stretched himself across the Celtic Goal Line….and TRAPPED the Ball on the Goal Line with his right hand…..and clawed the Ball back into his body !
Ronnie got up, with the Ball in his hands and booted the Ball out of play for a throw in, and then went down INJURED clutching his right shoulder.
It was a TRULY FANTASTIC Save by Ronnie, but he had to go off injured due to his shoulder, and Big Tommy Gemmell took over in Goal, and was waving at the Celtic supporters in the Celtic End.
I do NOT think Ayr Utd scored against TOMMY GEMMELL that night, but Celtic WON that Replay.
Ayr Utd had given a fine Celtic Team a real fright over those Two Games, and both games were played in a REAL Cup Tie atmosphere.
Ronnie Simpsons shoulder injury that night, MAY have been after he had damaged the same shoulder against Clyde at Shawfield….but I can NOT remember IF it was the Ayr Utd Replay that FOLLOWED the Clyde game…or the other way around ?
If memory serves me correctly, Ronnie was forced to RETIRE after injuring THAT Shoulder for the second time ?
Whit a Goalie RONNIE SIMPSON was ( R.I.P), albeit he was a TORY Councillor in Edinburgh !
I met him once inside Celtic Park in 2001, and he could hardly get a word in because of The BUZZBOMB ( Bobby Lennox), chatting and joking away…
LOL.
HH.
DAVID66…..
I had forgot about Goram…by many accounts…NOT a nice Guy ?
MRS BRRB……. that wummin should be CANNOISED ?
im gonna send an Email to His Holiness the POPE.
LOL
HH
I USED to have a Liver like BRRB’s……and in my heavy drinking days, I could drink BRRB under the Table.
Many good and bad men couldnt keep up with me once I got started on the Beers, many have fallen.
However, auld age and poor health ( sometimes) have crept up on me in the last three years or so.
10 or 11 Pints is about my Limit these days….but at a PUSH and IF I was FORCED….I could probably mange a few more ?
LOL
HH
MANAGE a few more !
Big Jimmy
John Fallon played in 3 – 3 game then Ronnie and big Tam in nets for a I think a 2 -1 victory.Remember asking this question re 3 goalies a while back. For those looking in Big Jimmy,David and Melbourne Mick, good morning .
.
Forgot to add, we signed Evan Williams because of Ronnie’s injury and subsequent retirement, and to allow Big Tam to carry on doing what he was best at.

This League Cup Tie must have been around 1969…or thereabouts ?

Big Tommy Gemmell was also very good at WAVING !
He did it maybe Two or Three times after taking over in Goal, and I can remember some older Celtic fans shouting….” For Fecks Sake TAM….Keep your eyes oan the game” !

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/nov/22/supreme-court-to-rule-second-scottish-independence-referendum
Judgement this morning at 09:45.
Given how quickly this decision has been reached, I would think it likely the UK Supreme Court will rule in favour of Westminster.
In effect the UK will be saying that the future of Scotland is not for the Scottish people to decide upon. A Union of the willing ?
I met Evan Williams at Hospitality a few years ago, an absolute gentleman.
BSR
I enjoy reading your posts scattered with bon mots (not bon bons) but
” The unseen fenian hand has played the FFP / FSR card , to trump FTP all day long.”
Est la plus bon de mots encore.
Within the next half hour or so, the Supreme Court (London) will rule on the legality, of the Scottish Government’s proposals to hold a Referendum on Scottish Independence, pencilled in by the First Minister for October 23 2023, less than a year from now. Curious case in that the Lord (Lady) Advocate has argued that it would not be legally binding, but advisory, or consultative. If the Court solely uses the Scotland Act as the main criteria it will rule against it. It could in theory take a wider, more historical context, Act of Union 1707, and suggest that Treaties are between Parties and Edinburgh is entitled to reexamine the process without reference to Westminster. Unlikely. Another possibility is that the Court will argue that Edinburgh has not legislated for the Referendum, ie the Bill has not been passed by Holyrood, the question is premature, and they do not want to rule on a hypothetical scenario.
Likely headline “London Says No”.
Celtic Mac
I think all referendums are advisory, hence why they have to pass Parliament to be lawful, e.g., Brexit
coneybhoy
Well it could be argued that Euro Referendum Bill-Act of 2015 was advisory but I do not buy that. And some do. Over 550 MPs voted for it in late 2015, for me that made it binding. Re the Scottish Referendum of 2014, both Cameron and Salmond agreed to accept the result so in effect binding.
coneybhoy
Decision on LBC right now.
Nae referendum.
Moderator breathes a sigh of relief.
Surprised Croatia went with Juranovic instead of Ralston…
Might be paraphrasing here but thought I heard that; The Supreme Court unanimously agreed that;
“The Scottish Parliament does not have the power to legislate on Scottish Independence”
It was obvious from the start that Holyrood didn’t have the right to hold a referendum.
Ask Mike Russell if you have any doubts about it.
The court case was to appease the zealots within the cult, though no doubt the decision can now be utilised as yet another wedge issue.
Meanwhile everything the SNP have control of gets worse by the day.
Always easy to predict the winner after the race is run.
Any fool can do that.

The awards were incredible for different positions in football!
” Greatest Defender of ALL Time: Sergio Ramos. ?,?
” Agent of the year” ??? ffs who cares
