We touch on legal matters here but last night I enjoyed reading the forensic analysis on the wonderful Duff and Phelps on the Web 3D Law blog. It’s worth 10 minutes of your day, each day, the most recent blog especially. I also assume you are all keeping an eye on the substantial thoughts on Paul McConville’s blog. If not, I want to know why.
So much for accounts and the law, today I want to discuss philosophy with you.
When football-types talk about morality and hypocrisy they are usually worth listening to, if only for comedic value. Anyone experiencing the Scottish media will not doubt that morality is subjective and chameleon in nature. This question has exercised great minds for centuries, if only they had the benefit of our effervescent radio luminaries.
Despite being metaphorically surrounded by morally opportunistic hypocrites, Ally McCoist felt so secure in his demands for Rangers that he didn’t dodge the issue yesterday.
When asked if Rangers should be kicked out of the SPL he accepted it “might be the right thing to do morally and people will have their own opinions on it, with differences far and varied.
“There’s an argument the right thing to do is for Rangers to go down to the Third Division and that might be the case if it’s a Newco after liquidation.
“But is it the correct thing to do for Scottish football? Probably not. Everybody’s got a dilemma and that’s why there are so many opinions on it.
“Whether people like it or not, Rangers and Celtic are different because of the size and magnitude of the two clubs.
“Supporters of other clubs and some Old Firm supporters say you can’t have rules for some clubs and not for others.
“In an ideal world, that would be 100 per cent correct. I would absolutely and totally agree with that.
“But the fact of the matter is we’re asking if it would be good for the rest of the SPL if Rangers went down to the Third Division? The answer has to be no.
“I don’t envy the people who have to make that decision. I can understand the hypocrisy of it but Rangers and Celtic are different.”
Rangers are different – no dispute about that, Ally. Celtic are different again, but if it is hypocritical and morally wrong to provide support for these clubs which has never been extended to a smaller club, we cannot subvert our sport – and remember, the word SPORT implies that outcomes are determined on a level playing field – Rangers must be treated no differently than Gretna.
And just one correction for Ally: liquidation-and-phoenix would not see Rangers drop to the Third Division. A Newco in the Third Division would not have dropped from anywhere, it would be a new company and new football team. Rangers would, in these circumstances, go pop!

At least the RFFF plan is now clear – threaten everyone in order to make the Bad Thing to go away. The kind of language they use is unbelievable. Their lack of self-reflection is remarkable. Duff & Phelps are running the club – I’m guessing this is sanctioned by them???

Lessons in morality from the cash strapped scrofulous Hillbillies are like lessons in parentcraft from Rosemary West.
Personally I wouldn’t wax too eloquent on hypocrisy and morality until we see which way DD and PL jump, if they jump at all, should a newco become a reality.

Are the Hillbillies not boycotting Billyhills?
I am watching the Wigan game and I am reminded of a sore point of mine from way back with regard to a concern over the fitness standards of Celtic players. Today’s example of Maloney and ,in particular, Caldwell looking lean and mean. Caldwell looks to have lost around 6-8 kg’s from his Celtic days (not long ago) and it brings the message home to me again. If we go a little further back to Boruc and Hartley who never seemed to be at peak fitness. I get the feeling that if Hooper joined Southampton and Commins to West Brom or whoever then there fitness levels would be greatly improved. That just seems to be the way it is. This is a huge opprtunity for us but this problem has been around a long time. Of course we have some naturally fit players but it is the ones who have to work at it who never seem to get there at our club. Somehow the English teams have a suprior level of fitness due to STRICT diet and training methods which we can only aspire to and I don’t get it as I am sure our facilities are first class. I would say McGeady is the only example I can think of where the improved physique and speedhave been quite obvious. Any thoughts?

Breeny – Martinez also said they had to do a lot of work with Maloney before he could play regularly though I think it was on strength. One paper said he was the outstanding performer at present in the bottom half of the EPL.
He’s doing well because of this conditioning and also he’s not being kicked all over the place every week.
